You've been playing disc golf for what - 3 years?

Consider that J. Gary and Jerry have each been disc golfing for over two decades.

Patience young grasshopper - it will come. :D

Yeah Stella...Look at Marcus if you need an example. See (http://www.pdga.com/tournament/player_ratings_history.php?PDGANum=20734&year=2008 ) for yourself. Granted discgolf is in his blood, he's only 16, and can throw a country mile but look at where he started and where he's at now.

I was only joking about all that J&J 100 point crapola. I'd be ridiculous to compare my play to theirs at this point.....

However, as some have mentioned recently I have improved drastically from this point last year and I see it myself as well. I'm thinking more, realizing different things about the game while on the course, executing golf shots, and all the while having more fun because of it. Right now I am rated at what my level is. I'm an ~880 player and thats nothing to be ashamed of. I know that if I follow through this winter with my goals then my first two rating updates in the spring should look much like the wonderful example you presented Pooleyosis.

and btw, Kurt Poole, as a brief interlude, that VM message still applies, jerk. :D

anyway, heres the plan/promise....

1. workout. I am at least 25lbs heavier than I should be and I have not been treating my body well at all lately. If you were unaware untone lazy arses are at a disadvantage in this sport, trust me. If you dont believe this then you are naive. Anyway, I'm getting a 10 speed roadbike for my birthday (totally sweet deal there), already have a treadmill lined up, and weights are easy to come by. What else is needed? Determination and will-power. I have a weight scale and a mirror for that!

2. practice putting 30 minutes a day. every other day minimum. No pressure on makes/misses... like Nike, just do it.

3. two days of field practice a week. until I can throw a putter 250 feet any which way I want I am not going to be satisfied. thats not me being tough, thats what I expect.

thats all. nothing tricky. those three things should do LOADS for my game. we'll see because I made a promise I intend on keeping.

maybe next time the post will be more like 50 points to catch those old men!!!

Now, off to get the new Mitch Hedberg CD. Yeah thats right. It came out yesterday. WOOT WOOT!

This rating system is a bit funny and overrated. I have been playing for about the same amount as Stella. If you play at moraine, DLDGC or a tougher course in general I would think your rating would drop below personal expectations. If you play on courses you at least feel suit your game it becomes inflated. It is okay to know where you stand amongst other players, but exercise bikes, richard simmons and some practice probably trump it all in the end.

sandalbagger
Sep 11 2008, 11:09 AM
JA' your rating will be more accurate once you play more events. THe players who have at least 20 matches recorded, have very accurate ratings.

Actually, the harder the course (DL & Moraine) the lower the ratings. For example, Timmy's 50 at Knob is 1030+, but Barry's course record at Moraine is only in the 1040's. I think Barry's round should have been closer to 1050 and Timmy's closer to 1010. But that's just the ratings. Until you have a bunch of rounds recorded on a bunch of courses, they are not very accurate.

Sep 11 2008, 12:57 PM
ratings are a quality measurement, if you get more than a handful of tournaments under your belt. I also recommend not having 30 people stay at your place where you end up drinking beers until 4 am each night. That can really hurt your rating as well.

hitman
Sep 11 2008, 03:14 PM
yeah CD I think we were on the same page. What I was getting at was: If you play courses that are "easier" or more suited towards your particular game then you would see an inflated rating, right? Where you play a variety of courses without regard to whether or not it suits your style you get a more "accurate" reading over the long run. Thinking about this like: will the courses played at the NEO help your rating? Then making a decision whether to play based on this, and ultimately affecting your rating.

Man do I wish Stella could post on this discussion board right now. Since I'm quoting this message that Goocher brought back from the dead, I'm sure Stella would have something good to say...So Stella, hows that training program going? Do you still need me to bring Alanna's workout videos to Moraine this weekend. Or would you rather me stop at Sheetz to pick up some cookies?

Yessir. I knew their was some kind of loop hole. If you check some events you will see some guys playing in lower divisions. They can be DQ'd or even suspended though.

I believe there has only been 1 case of a player playing the wrong division that I know of this year.

You can't really look back at events now because their ratings have changed since the events happened.

But anyway, in case people where wondering what division they can play in, now you all know with that chart.
