I received a call last night from a friend out west and he told me that Big Daddy had passed away from leukemia. I wish this were not true, but I expect that it is. Dave,. #1414, was one of the most laid back competitors I ever enjoyed disc golf with and he was a true gentleman. My prayers are there for your family Dave.

If anyone has information about this, to validate this or hopefully to dispel a bad rumor, please share. Thanks

Got the news this morning. I too wish it wasn't true. And although I got the info third hand, he had been battling Luekemia for a couple of years.
Dave was a great friend and mentor. Played my very first tournament round with Dave in 1983. He will be greatly missed. Truly a sad day.

I was just thinking about Dave this morning while doing a course review for Calvert. I may have bought my first golf disc from Dave, a purple P-38 Lightning. I remember watching him shoot with some of the local pros back when I was a rec player throwing a lid at Calvert around 1984 or so. Watching them throw those fancy golf discs changed my life. A few weeks later they tried to talk me into playing in an upcoming tournament but I was not interested. One of my regrets in life. Years later I returned to Calvert and had the privilege of caring for the course he devoted so much time and effort to back in the 80s. The folks at MNPPC (Maryland National Parkas and Planning Commission) remembered him fondly, and everyone I spoke to while digging into the history of Calvert had nothing but praise for Big Daddy.

Thanks Dave for your dedication and spirit. My heart is at half mast.

I have been working with the "powers that be" to get Daddy inducted into the DG Hall of Fame...anyone playing DG in the late 70's early 80's knows he was a key figure in bringing courses to the East Coast.

Captain Snap and Speedy Al are on the HOF committee...
Let them know how you feel!!!!

Jack Cooksey has started a blog to collect "Daddy" stories and life accomplishments...as soon as I get the url I'll post it for you all.

I went and found an old 1414 disc I had and threw it up on my roof to get stuck.

As you know...Old frisbee players never die, they just go up on the roof and get stuck.

I miss Daddy's Penalty box...wink wink.

I can't stop thinking about Daddy's driving style...give the disc a little smack before you throw.

The man was an all around Frisbee pro.

bye Dave.

Whoa... This is some seriously sad news... Thoughts and prayers to Jen and the rest of his family during this tough time.

On of my fondest memories of Dave was after I made a particularly nice approach shot he said, "Hey you should stick with this, you could be pretty darn good. Plus it's a lifetime of fun." I was just a 15 year old kid. He was one of the game's best.

I've often remembered that, and lately, after a lifetime of fun, it seems like just weeks ago. So frickin fleeting life is...

Rest In Peace Big Daddy... You will be sorely missed.
