Boulevard Brewery (http://www.blvdbeer.com/) - I've been there and this beer and the tour is great, or at least it was in 2000.

Well its good to hear that the Super D Super Ninja is now getting involved in our worlds journey!!! YESSSSS! Lets discuss. Hopefully we can find like a 2-4 bedroom condo to rent out to fit 5 to 15 ninja's from texas in it!!! YEAHH BOYYYYYY! Everyone do some searching and see what we can find! WORLDS '09!!!!!

I am happy to start an open player side match. $5 to enter, winner take all! With Open and AMs playing different courses doesnt, seem fair to go head to head to head. You in a the open bracket?
exczar
Feb 24 2009, 03:02 PM
Nope, Pro GM. But, that's similar to advanced, kinda. But since we are playing differnt courses, can't use the score. Also, I am playing different courses than Open as well. That's why I suggested whoever plays the best compared to how they usually play should win. If you go straight up, even in Advanced, that gives the higher rated players an automatic advantage. And we are only talkin bout 5 bucks.

I posted this on the thread about hotels, but thought I'd post it here to help out my fellow Texans that might not be checking the other thread. My wife got us an unreal deal on the host hotel through hotwire. Here's what she did.
-----------------------------
Okay I just checked it out and it is still there. They go to Hotwire.Com and then click on the Hotels tab at the top. Put in Kansas City, MO and dates and search it and then when it brings up the Hotels it is the second one listed. The description it gives on Hotwire is a 3 1/2 star in Downtown Kansas City and Crown Center. It is $62 per nt and the only hotel listed with a SPA for an amenity. It is there now, but like I said who knows for how long.

If you are staying at the host hotel and got an internet rate please be sure and PM that info to Jack Lowe (screen name is jackinkc) so he can count all of those bookings as disc golfers. If they dont make their quota on the rooms that have been blocked specifically for Worlds they will have to pay rent on the convention rooms which will affect the overall payout. Look at the "Worlds....where are you really staying?" thread under "PDGA Tournament" topics for more details.

A question for all of y'all travelin' up to KC.
Right now, my itinerary looks like I will get up really early on Saturday so that I will roll into KC around noon on Saturday (or mid-afternoon at the latest), and I am planning on leaving on the next Saturday afternoon, after the Finals (or SemiFinals, if I really want to get home, and since I don't have to worry about participating in the Finals).
Here is my question. I would like to play some courses that I have never played while I am driving up and back. One option would be to take the same route I took to Des Moines five years ago - drive up I-35 to Wichita, Kansas, then continue on to Emporia, where I have the option of staying on I-35 to KC, or heading north, hitting I-70 at Topeka and take that into KC.
A second option is to drive up US75 from Dallas, then at McAlester, OK, jog north to Tulsa. After Tulsa, there are a bunch of different ways to proceed, going through Bartlesville and southeast Kansas, or going northeast up to Joplin, MO, then taking US 69 or 71, paralleling the KS-MO state line up to KC.
As I said, I am looking for the best courses that I could hit between here and there, that I have not played, so below is a list of the ones I have played:
Ardmore, OK - the course by the interstate and the one in the city park that had the "rocket ship" playground.
Norman - the old, orignal park (Lions Park?)
OKC - WillyWood (the 2 old courses)
Tulsa - Chandler, Haikey, Riverside, McClure, and the one on north Peoria, I think.
I have played no other courses between Tulsa and KC, and all of the courses I have played have been in ground for well over 10 years (20 years, throwing out Ardmore).
Right now I am leaning toward going to Tulsa and playing the ones I have not played before, like Davilo and the YMCA course if it is still there, then swinging up to Pawhuska to play at the Lodge, maybe hitting Bartlesville since it is so close.
I could take the OKC, Stillwater, Ponca, Wichita route if it would give me better courses.
Coming back, if I didn't do Tulsa on the way there, I would probably be close to losing daylight when I got there, and maybe a course between KC and Tulsa.
Anybody know anything, firsthand preferably, about some good courses to hit?
RhynoBoy
Jun 24 2009, 01:00 AM
If you go through Ponca to Wichita, stop by winfield, and I can show you a couple good courses, an awesome nine-holer and good 18 hole course. They may be hard to navigate without a guide.s

Along I35:
Emporia (Glass Blown Open) Jones Park, just off the interstate. 2 courses
The Lodge in Pawhuska (talked about in another thread) near Tulsa. Camping and hospitable folks!
Wichita--Oak Park. fun, not horribly challenging but no pitch n putt either.
if you want to go a little off the direct route:
camping at Pomona Lake (Vassar KS) and an 18 hole and a 9 hole course--Leo DePrato plays these regularly, south of Topeka.
Lawrence, Centennial Park about 30 miles west of WYCO.
Parsons, KS Glenwood Park is fun, not tough but no pnp
Fort Scott (about 70 miles south on US 69) is fun, tight packed front 9, more space on the back.
Topeka, Crestview and Lake Shawnee
Joplin McClelland 27 holes now, I haven't played the new layout.
if you REALLY want to wander, Jefferson City is great, Columbia Indian Hills, and California MO (FUN 9 holes)
Knowing what I do, I'd say Pomona Lake, Lake Shawnee, and Centennial. Emporia 2nd choice, purely because it's a little farther from the others, but the 2 courses are better than the others.
Heck, just come on in and play Cliff and Blue Valley and Wyco and Water Works. Cliff and BV may be new to you anyway, and they both have their "quirks". And, if you want a short game workout, William Yates Elementary is a terrific Junior course that plays tougher than you'd think.
But, most important, have some REAL barbecue! (ducking)

I plan on playing a lot of the KC courses while I am there. I think I have 5 in my rotation, but I am going to try and get some rounds in on the other ones as well, and hopefully others that are not even being used for the WDGC.
I was just trying to get some opinions here on a couple of good courses to hit on the way there and back, that are pretty much on the way between Dallas and KC. My two options are to stay close to I-35 all the way, or to go through Tulsa.
I'm not considering any courses that are not on or close to one of those routes.
Where is Winfield?

winfield is roughly 20 miles east of I 35, south of Wichita.
Cliff Drive now has tee pads. Took the leap from a good course to OMIGOD level. IMO, of course, but I'm usually right.
If you want to stay on I 35, then Emporia is your port of call. 2 courses in Jones Park, both good (thanks to Eric McCabe) and maybe better than good.
In Tulsa, McClure is right off I44 and Memorial. From there, it's an easy 4 hours to KC. It's almost the same time taking I44 to Joplin and up US 71, or taking US75 from Tulsa to I35, or US 169 from Tulsa to I35. US75 will put you about 20-25 miles NORTH of Emporia, if you want to do both.
This thread inspired me to do one on the KCFDC boards, under the Worlds header. Might be updated a little more. www.kcfdc.org

just so you know, that Okie Joes is open till 830 Mon-Thurs The other one, out southwest in Olathe (but not near Prairie Center) is open till 9... the gas station is better. Sunday evening must do:
Toots & The Maytals www.tootsandthemaytals.com (http://www.tootsandthemaytals.com)
(Reggae Legends)
Opener: The Wailers (Pretty legendary as well;))
At Grinders near Westin Crown for like $20!
Oklahoma Joe's is mighty fine. I also dig Gates for ribs. Get them dry and do the sauce yourself. Don't forget the beans.

Royals are in town this weekend, but it figures that they would be playing my hometown team. If it was Wrigley, Fenway or Yankee Stadium, I might go see the Rangers play, but not Fogleman Field, or whatever it is called there.
Y'all that are going, root for the Rangers to keep it going - they just swept the Red Sox at home.

it's Kauffman Stadium. It was nearly completely renovated and expanded, still not 100% complete IIRC, funded by the Jackson County taxpayers. It's actually pretty amazing, considering it's a 36 year old stadium, that it's still as beautiful as it ever was, and now the extras are amazing. Extras, being things not totally related to the game.
Why pay the ticket prices to go sit in a bar and pay even more for a beer? Or to let your kids play on a playground? I don't get it... The game's the thing for me.

Does anyone know if any of the web sites (pdga, kc, etc) have a listing of the players by state? It would be great to get a full list of all the Texas players up there.

I don't think so. I know the KCFDC site doesn't, and I haven't found anything that simplified on the PDGA site. You could click on each individual player's name and see, but that would give you a long-term hobby.

Thanks, I had looked around too, but without any luck.
I did try the "look at all the names", see who I recognize, click on ones kinda familiar, etc. Definitely took awhile, but have about 78 or 79 Texans so far. Bound to be more that I've missed though, and clicking on everyone would get me finished maybe by the final 9.
I may post what I've got tomorrow and see if anyone can add to it.

Whatever club Jose Garza belongs to, has one of the most friendly and polite club members, I've every met!
He asked his friend to take a picture of both of us tonight at the fly mart - and we just met 4 days ago at the putting competition. Guys like Jose are why I love being a TD, as well as playing at Worlds - Everyone you meet is almost instantly a friend.
Let me know what club he belongs to in case I don't see him again at Worlds, and I'll sponsor a hole at their next Event.

Isn't Third Coast where Gimp runs or used to run his series?
What city/cities does Third coast cover?
Just have whoever is in charge of the club PM me and we can discuss specifics.
Thanks in advance,

In the pro ranks it looks like Brad Williams had the best finish for a Texan. Looking at Brad's scores it looks like he has a legit shot to win in the future. I even heard Ken Climo was giving him praise. Nice Work Brad.
Not sure who won the $5 bet but it wasn't I know it wasn't me.

I have to echo Keith's comments. Jose was mistakenly singled out for observance after an offense was committed by another player on his card. He was very polite and pointed out that he was not the guilty party. Other players may have handled the mistake with less grace. I was impressed and glad to have him representing Texas.
