I just wanted to start this because I know the mayor has approved it, and the funds are forthcoming, but even with my contacts in the parks and rec department, and asking around at some local mini's, I'm wanting to hear more about this.
I live right at this park and really want any information about who went to the city with this and how I can be of any assistance. my dad is on parks and rec, and our neighbor is also parks and rec and I've sold golf carts to the head dude so if anyone knows who is spearheading this I would love to know and contact them or have them contact me to see if I can help in any way.

Turner Park is off Belt line and 30 and GP needs an 18 hole course IMO so I'm psyched about trying to help get this going!

I used to drive by this park daily and always like the elevation of the park that you could see from the road! This is great news!

Apparently there was some legitimacy to the talk about this course going in, because it has been installed and I had an opportunity to play it this weekend. Overall, it appears to be very well layed out with tough pin locations (fast greens), good use of the available OB, and a nice mix of short and long holes. A few of my observations:
1. 18 permanent, Mach III baskets with alternate sleeves installed on every hole is a great start for a new course. There's even a practice basket between #1 and #18 baskets, with what appears to be an alt sleeve for it as well :).
2. There's a stream that comes into play on at least 4 holes, but even in wet conditions, the course didn't hold much water, aside from a few puddles that collected in #15 and 18 fairways. It was very difficult to cross the streams in some places (especially where they cross #12's fairway THREE times), so logs/4x4's/bridges would be a huge step in the right direction if the course is to be used for tournament play in the future.
3. Even without permanent tees or tee signs, the course was relatively easy to navigate, but it would be nice if there was some indicator of which way to walk to the next tee (especially between #4 and 5 and #15 and 16).
4. Mandos were well-marked and obvious on all holes that appeared to need them, except for #13. In my opinion, the RHBH hyzer route over the road should be taken away with a mando of some kind, not only to keep discs out of the street, but also because the hole plays as a difficult par 4 with that route eliminated, requiring an accurate drive down through the trees and across the creek to set up a long 2nd shot back uphill and through even more trees to try for the 3. One of the top 3 holes on the course (along with #16 and 18) in my opinion.
5. I'm not sure if a disc golf club exists in GP yet, but this is a course someone's gonna want to grab hold of and claim as its own, because it really has the WOW factor.

Wow, I found out this course was installed this weekend and I just happen to have a meeting in the area today.

so after the meeting, on to the course to try to play before the rain came in (fail)

So no to **** anyone off, but these are my thoughts on the course and it's layout. Please read the whole thing before you go off on me.

#1, I was unable to find the Tee. It looks like a long hole up the hill ending up between a storage building and a parking lot. Not too bad of a hole. (I took a freaking OB 5 from where I played it from)

#2, either move the tee or remove the old granite sign. It is the most open shot on the course and I got the easy bird.

#3 Interesting tee with a "clowns mouth" type of mandatories that really don't come into play. The only problem with this hole was the fact I landed on #4's tee box.

Oh, I didn't see an alternate pin placement for #1 or #3 however there is an alternate pin placement that could be used for #2 OR #4.

#4 nice shorter hole with a few thin trees making for an interesting shot. The green is sloped so a hyzer may fall off into the street. Long shots are really BAD. My spike hyzer nearly hit the basket and luckly didn't roll down the hill.

To get to #5, you walk to the street, make a right and walk down the creek past the entrance road. it looks like a small pond. If I didn't meet up with someone, I would have takin a very long time finding this hole.

#5 very nice hole, I got lucky with my forhand shot and had a putt the first round. This is a hard 2, but an easy 3.

#6 Another nice hole, I don't like Mandatories and this hole has one to keep you from throwing over a parking lot. (my first drive missed the mandatory) This hole does have an alternate pin placement at the bottom of the hill, but the green in the pin location today plays very tough for right handers being on the side of the hill. This hole is right at my max range I might get a bird occationally.

#7, short hole with a very small window for backand (or forehand) A thumber would work good hear I think (I don't have one so I didn't look at it) I got the bird both times I played it. it is a must get hole.

#8 Fun hole down hill. The hole is shorter than it looks and the green is not at the bottom of the hill.

#9 good hole, but there is not a very good line. There is a back hand hyzer shot for a 3, and a back hand anhyzer shot that theoretically could get the bird. (I got par both times)

There is a pin placement between #8 and #9 that could be used for either hole.

#10, another long walk that I would have had a hard time finding. Basicly I walked around #5's basket and crossed the creek to get to the tee. This is a good short hole. small straight window get's you the bird. You can throw this one as hard as you want because there is a hill behind the basket.

#11, tough hole. There are several smaller trees lining the fairway. I don't know if there is a manditory on this hole so I was throwing directly at the hole. If you hyzer off you are in trouble down the hill. If you miss your putt, you are in trouble, it could roll 100ft away. I also had a hard time with footing in the rain on this hole.

There is a long pin position that really looks fun. It is down the hill towards the entrance street. It is still an easy 3 if you make it past those first tree's.

#12, on of my favorate holes on the course. it is located across the street from #11 and crosses the creek 3 times. This is a birdiable hole, but OB would be pretty easy. I made par both time I played this hole. This was also the hole I was playing when it started to rain big time.

#13 A 2 drive hole. Basicly you have to drive a 300ft shot across the creek for another 300 ft shot to the basket. it is the placement of your first shot that makes the BIG differance here. I was putting for a 3 the first time and took a 4 the second time. Long is good for your first drive. Keep that in mind.

Now the big walk that just about killed me. Up the hill to #14's tee

#14, maybe the best hole on the course. Downhill with a defind fairway. The basket is located in the middle, but on a slope. so a right handed hyzer will fall way off left. I got 3's both times on this hole.

#15 A pretty simple blind shot over the top of the hill. The problem is you are throwing across a bricked path for other park users. This should be an easy 3. (on my second round, that hill to #14 killed me and I went home to get cleaned up for work, I was soaked to the bone from the rain)

#16 2nd longest hole on the course. You are not allowed to throw over the street so you have to throw up the hill and then back down to a grove of tree's. I tried a roller in the rain and made it past the set of tree's on the top of the hill. I actually had a clear upshot down the hill. (unfortunatly for me, I did not have a good upshot with the wind and rain in my face)

#17, walk across the bridge over past the small parking circle. Simple 3 hole. Not all that long, but unless you have a big arm, this is a par hole. There is no line to the basket. Just throw under the big tree's and throw your up shot to the basket.

#18, this is the longest hole in the DFW area now. The tee was up hill so I did not get a good shot off (it was also raining pretty hard) I landed at the top of the hill past all the tree's. This is actually where you want to be. (just a big anhyzer) The next shot is a right handed dogleg across the top of the hill and down to the bottom. I threw a roller than went to the edge of the hill. Simple up shot to the basket gave me a 4 in the rain.

In all, this is a GREAT course. #18 is a little redicuous, but I still liked it. Like the last poster said, it makes good use of green's and it really favors a forhand or lefty overall.

I can't wait to make it out there to play again.

I hope there are cement tee pads in the planning. many of the holes tee off on hill and are not very flat. Several were hard to get run ups on.

It poured down rain and the creek did not break it's banks. It was pretty full and I had to get my feet wet to cross it, but it is just a small creek.

As long as I didn't step in an ant pile or in the dirt dug up from the pin placements, It was not all that muddy either. At least it was nothing like what I played in on Sunday in Mesquite.

BTW, When I was playing #1, a mantance guy from the city waved me down. He was actually supprised to see anyone out there playing the course and at the time in the rain there were at least 5 of us on the course. He was very excited that I told him I drove in from Carrollton to play the course and that I was VERY impressed with it.

I can't wait until the next time I can play out there. maybe Saturday, maybe I will take a day off next week. I rank this course as one of the top courses in the DFW area.

loved the course! thanks for the round, bill...

took a 3 on #13 my first time playing it..maybe never happen again! :)

looked like a tournament going on yesterday, there were so many players. we had to wait 15-20min on #1 to tee off.

definitely needs concrete tees though...hopefully that is in the master plan.

I went out and played again Wednesday. After several days of rain the course was pretty muddy, but mostly just the tee boxes.

I was tired and did not shoot very well

As those that played in the tournament know, hole #4' tee box was played down the hill and across the little side road with a double mandatory. Man, that made it tough. (I took a 4 after hitting the right mandatory hill)

I took pictures off every tee, but have not had the time to figure out how to download them off my phone.

I wound up shooting a 65 with only one birdie.

My one birdie (2), hole #14. Great roller that circled the basket for a drop-in

I got there just as the mini was ending, and I only saw two groups.

I did hear the phrase "course record" when someone was talking to J.D., though.

I took Bret out there Sunday afternoon and we saw Jim Dart. Jim said he had his best round ever there on Sat. morning with a 54 only to lose to J.D. who shot a 53.
