So I have no idea how the whole *rating *system works,. And since i just joined I still have no ranking which may or may not be a good thing at the moment. So can anyone fill me in? I am really curious to see what my ranking would be. When is the next ratings update?:o

Ratings and rankings are separate. All PDGA members get a Player Rating once they have played an event that has been reported to the PDGA. The next ratings update is always shown in the Announcements area on the right side of the PDGA Home page. For more info on Ratings, look here: http://www.pdga.com/ratings
For info on PDGA World Rankings, look here: http://www.pdga.com/WorldRankings

Two of the tournaments you played have unofficial ratings. You can look at other players' ratings to figure out yours. Since no one shot the exact same scores as you, you have to estimate by figuring out how many ratings points are being subtracted per throw, and then subtract from someone who shot better, or add to someone who shot worse.
When they calculate your rating they are going to average all your rounds, after double weighting the most recent eight, throwing out rounds over one year old if you have enough rounds to throw out old ones, and throwing out rounds that are so bad they are not reflective of your demonstrated skill level as reflected by the rest of your rounds. It is a complicated mathematical formula that I have never memorized. Basically your rating is a weighted average of all your rounds in the last year, and sometimes they go back up to another year if you don't play a lot of tournaments.
Since the range between your best and worst rounds is only about 95 points, all your rounds should count. Assuming your TDs get their reports in and you have nothing lurking out there that is not yet in your database, I'd put you at 743 or so, with 698, 696, 761, 791, 734, and 780.
The data also shows that you improved a lot from the first tournament to the second. So don't be discouraged by all the mean stuff the other bruce_brakel posted on that other thread. He's a jerk. I don't know why I ever let him use my account, but sometimes he posts funny stuff and his occasional 1000 rated rounds are useful for keeping my rating up. I just wish he'd play more and post less.

So I guess they double weight the last 25% of your rounds rather than the last eight. That's going to move your rating a little higher but not a lot.
