1104. NICE. but the bigger question, as a disc fan who thought he knew the big names: Who the hell is Bobby Musick?

Really? How why do you have to say anything? Yes he had a lead and ended up losing in a playoff, but really? How can you say anything about a guy losing to another 1030 rated player? If you have never played with Musick, he's a stud and it's his home course, so I can see how it might be tough to hold him off. Especially on the Golden State mega layout.

Unless you know Rico personally, like I do and this is a joke then you should probably keep your comments to yourself.

He's a badass that took some time off from the game. Mostly plays in Socal, check his tournament history, it's pretty impressive. I saw him throw a 475'+ teebird on the first hole in Bakersfield and it was never higher than 7' off the ground.

He's really nice and approachable too, which is cool. Some of the top guys act like they don't have time to talk to you unless your another top pro.

This isn't about Rico choking. Its about him shooting an 1100+ rated round.

Well let's see....

The first time I played with Steve was in 2001 in San Diego. Great power.
The first time I played with Bobby was 2002. Great guy
As far as my comment... your way off for thinking i was bashing his lost in the playoff. Shooting a 1100 rated round is something me an you will never do.

What a great event this was, and everyone thought Steve had it in the bag after shooting a 40 (-14) on the first round. But Bobby hung in there, patiently waiting for the right oppurtunity. On the Golden State layout, on hole 8 (normal 15 to normal 16) Rico had a 25 foot putt, but decided to layup on a downhill sloped basket. Bobby almost sunk his putt for birdie, and so both recorded a par4. Steve threw his drive on 9 (from normal 17 to normal 1) in Lake OB, which cost him a huge stroke moving Bobby within 1. On hole 10 (normal 3), Bobby parked his drive for an easy 4 ft drop in, while Steve's drive was short leaving a good 60 foot putt to win, but he missed, ending in a tie.

In the sudden death, both managed to pull a three on hole 1 (normal 1 to normal 2). On hole 2 (normal 3), Bobby had to make a 25-30ft putt with a drop and OB behind the basket to birdie with Steve. On hole 3 (normal 4 to normal 6), both threw rollers getting out to the open (100 ft behind near normal 5). Steve's upshot landed him a good 60-70 ft out, while Bobby's upshot was within 15 feet of the basket, slightly behind a tree. Steve gave a good run at the basket, but Bobby capitalized on the upshot, and sunk his putt for the win!

Ok, if that was the intention then I apologize. I just knew that Steve wanted the W, and I was happy he was in the lead and it bummed me out that Bobby caught him, even though I like Bobby a lot too. I just think it would have been good for Rico to win this one.

Again, I apologize, I thought your were pointing out the bad, not the good. Usually in these situations people like to dwell on the failures of others. Look at the Pats and Colts, everyone talks about Belichek's call to go for it on 4th, not that the Colts still had to score a TD to win from the 30.

So back to your original intention, yeah a 40 at La Mirada is pretty sweet, of course when I was playing a practice round with him 2 weeks ago he shot a -10 and -12 on the front and back courses respectfully so it wasn't a huge shock that he went that low.

Bobby's just one of those local CA guys that doesn't travel more that 100 miles out of SoCAl. He's got game!!

I agree with ChrisW though. I follow the ins and outs of disc golf quite closely and this Bobby guy obviuosly has got serious game. Ive never seen a picture of this guy and couldnt pick him out of a crowd. How does a 1030 rated dude go so under cover?

There is a video posted on the "La Mirada So Cal Championship thread with both Steve and Bobby.

great video. Bobby is one cool cat. Everytime I see him he is very relaxed and easy going, one of the boys, with a lot of game and class.
