Today, my son John and I headed to Bentonville to play the disc golf course at Lake Bella Vista. We have been looking forward to playing this course, just like all us disc golfers do when there is a course near by we have not played yet. We will be playing the Lake Bella Vista Open later this year and it was a good time to make the trip and check it out. We had been told that this course was "difficult".
Wow... Difficult.... Really?
Difficult is not a word I would use to describe this course at all!
Between all the water holes, the woods holes that you don't have a prayer to drive to the hole and the monster open shots, this course is nothing short of monster like, who's favorite snacks are disc's. Any disc.
No, difficult does not come to mind.... a new word for me comes to mind that I have never used to describe a disc golf course.
That word.....is.... EVIL!
On top of the evilness of the course itself, the water has just now receded back into its banks leaving the course either sloppy, muddy or bog like. It appears that the water must have been a good 30 feet out of it's banks in places. Very nasty.
Now this course has taken on new level of evilness, and you would think on a fairly warm sunny afternoon it could not be worse.... but you would be mistaken!
Did I mention that the wind was blowing steady at 20 miles an hour straight north with gusts of 25 to 30 MPH? Oh yes, it can get MUCH WORSE!
After paring the first three holes, feeling very good about myself and my game with a nice easy upshot on the long water OB hole 4, I hit the smallest twig of a limb on the right side of the fairway that totally turned my disc, and a gust of wind like a giant hand delved my disc into the monsters mouth for it's first snack of the day.
It was my brand new buzz that I had just won at the Lucky 13 in Republic one week ago today. A well earned win, and now one of my favorite disc's. Gone. Almost rapture like... in the blink of an eye. It may have been my imagination., or the rumble of a semi on the highway but I could have sworn that I heard a deep gravely voice that simply said....
Heh heh heh....
My son John threw his disc's in the water 3 times.... all retrieved. But my new buzzz...
Are you kidding me?
After being totally dejected, and playing half heartedly I was looking forward to the last three holes... all open.... all long... with the wind at my back!
I threw as hard as I could with all that wind behind me looking forward to throwing the longest throws of my life. NOT.
The wind was much too strong and SLAMMED every drive down to the ground! I do believe that I threw farther INTO all that wind then I did away from it!
My first thought when I made my final three putt in the basket at 18???
I will never play at this course ever again in my life!!! OK, that was not exactly what I thought.... there were other choice words mingled in that I can't post on a forum or even say outloud...
It started raining when we headed back home, dark clouds and very gloomy to match my disposition.
But, after I regained my composure on the long drive back home I was already thinking about my schedule and when I could come back to Lake Bella Vista... heck.... I might even rent an apartment there for awhile and make it my second home.
The storms have passed, the wind has quit blowing and the sun is back out....
But I am still feeling a little empty knowing that my buzzz is lost forever....

Next time.... I will be armed with some floating discs, swimming trunks and a beach towel..... You can beat me, but your not getting any more of my discs!
Please say a prayer for my buzzz... may it rest in peace.
