I've played the course at Firefighters park. It's a small park with only 9 baskets and a fairly simple layout. What we did is played from the established tees and made up our own safari style course, say like playing 1s tee to 4s basket and so on. Kinda boring and short from the normal layout. Took 4 of us about 45 minutes to play. We haven't played the other desert course yet. My advice would be to drive another hour or so to Flagstaff and play Thorpe and NAU. Dress warm!

I live an hour away and have played both of them. The advice to drive "an hour away" to flagstaff is wrong. Its at least 3ish hours. The course Cactus Flats is fun. It gives a real good feel of a good Arizona desert course. It's not very difficult but is enjoyable. The wind is usually pretty major as well. Soon they will be putting concrete tees at the 9 hole course, Firefighter's park. Cactus Flats have Dirt Tees, but three per basket, a red, blue, and white. Red and Blue play similarly and the white tees are great for younger players and girlfriends.

Hey Graham,
Your right, Flag is listed on mapquest as 2 hours 10 minutes from Kingman, but if you read my post, I said an hour or so. And I did enjoy playing Firefighters Park as much as I enjoy seeing new courses, it was just not what I would consider very challenging or even something that I would consider a fun day road trip, hence my advice to stay on the Interstate another hour or so. Congrats to you guys for putting in your course in Lake Havasu. Hopefully we'll be able to stop there next month on our road trip to the Fling in L.A.

I always think it takes longer to get to Flagstaff than it actually does. They are absolutely a much better trip out than the courses in Kingman. For coming from Vegas the Kingman courses aren't terrible. I would maybe suggest waiting for one of Kingman's non-sanctioned tournaments. I'm not sure when the next one will be but they're very well organized and a lot of fun. www.Kingmandiscgolf.com
Manny, if you guys end up coming through Havasu I'll make sure we have a few guys ready to play on our end. It is nice that we have a course, however right now there's only the wide open short 9 holer. We do have a plot of land in a hilly desert park where we will be putting in an 18 hole course sometime in the no-too-distant future. Currently we're in the design stage, but I have high hopes for what we'll be able to do there.

I agree there is quite a stretch between Flag and Kingman that even I take a nap on, even while I'm driving! And I agree, the Kingman course that I played wasn't horrible, it's a good pit stop to let the big guns (my boys) loose. And although it is short and simple, we always stop in. BTW, We won't be stopping in on our trip to L.A., but on our trip out to Santa Cruz Cali. (we travel alot for tourneys) at the end of this month we might be stopping over for the night. So if you can p.m. a link to affordable motels in the area I sure would appreciate it. And any support I can offer towards your new course, or tournaments in your area would be our pleasure. We're always good for a hole sponsor or something. And as always, you LHDGC boys are cordially invited up to my B-tier tourney in Pinetop called The Top of the Pines presented by Bud Light! Plenty of cold adult beverages on hand and great times! Hope to see you there. Check it out on disqman.com Manny

Theres a very good chance there will be at least 3 of us from Lake Havasu and a guy or two from Kingman coming out for Top of the Pines. One Havasu Guy went last year, and we've been hearing great things about it ever since.
I may end up taking your offer on course help, at least I'll draw up a layout, post pictures and all of that when I have it completed and get some feedback. And if that time period coincides with you or anyone being in the area it would never hurt to have new perspectives.
Quick question, is the Treebash Open happening this year? Ill be in Sylmar playing the Summertime Open, but a couple locals were hoping to make it out to Flag early June.

Robert Bagley right? I remember him. If I remember correctly, he played a round or two with Nick. Excellent, the more the merrier. Glad to have you guys out.
I'd be more than happy to help you out in any way I can with course info or feedback. We will be coming thru on or around April 28th or 29th. If you have the course set up by then we'd be happy to come out and play, and if not we can certainly take a look at what you got.
As far as I know the Treebash tourney will still be a go. I know that they're still skiing Snowbowl at this point and the club has to wait for snow to melt before they can set it up. But as far as the tourney goes, I'm sure it's still on. I haven't heard otherwise. Also the course at McPhereson just got set up, I believe, so that will be practiceable. Treebash is a great tourney, we never miss it.

Is Papago still around? It isn't in the PDGA Directory.

Thx, I miss the original layout on the other side of the mountain. That was a fun shot from the top to bottom.

If you check out the disqman.com website it lists The Phoenix City Championships as one of the last Cactus Series events of the year. Papago is extended to 27 holes with some huge bomb shots off the tops of the buttes at Moeur Park. Also Papago is no longer just a 9 hole desert course. They put in 9 new baskets across the street from hole #9. Them Papago boys deal a really good job on the new 9 to make it another challenging course in Scottsdale. Check Rizbees link for the info.

5 of us played both courses in Kingman yesterday. It was windy. We enjoyed Cactus Flats. Ace on #3, and another hit the cage.
