I miss my Grateful Dead days.....

Those were big time fun!!!

There's still a lot of good stuff going on (I Know Treat Knows That!!)

The music lives and the members continue to perform in various side projects, a lot of them still doing the wide range of original dead

as far as the nostalgia........it's a lot deeper than that, just like lots of us collect discs, you have to realize that there are

36,504 Songs
2,318 Shows

that's not counting the last 15 years of member side projects and reunion tours

with most all of these shows available to collect, it's an incredible thing

I know and respect that it isn't for everyone but show me another band with this kind of history and sheer amount of material to offer their fans.... the main thing that most all of these live shows are available and collected

and the music is still performed without Jerry, concerts are still sold out

Many good bands you can only hear the 4-10 studio albums (over and over)

the Dead have a way to improvise their music and keep it fresh from show to show, continually re-inventing the music

that said....FurDog still sucks :)

I am the re-incarnation of Jerry Garcia dude but finding the right band members here in Tulsa to back me up is a little tough considering some of them would rather work at Bass Pro Shop or play Disc Golf instead.

I guess I'll just wait for Hollywood to call when they want me to star in the Jerry Garcia movie.

Check out these plugs for the event...

http://pairadimemusic.com/2010/09/29/pairadime-presents-be-fest-chandler-park-in-tulsa-oct-22-24th-2/

http://www.currentland.com/ViewArticle/383/Default.aspx

Word is with just the music alone we're looking at anywhere from 500 to 1000 people on the mountain this weekend so get there early on Friday to stake out your camp site.

Unlike Chandlerstock where HQ is normally shelter # 2, we will be using shelter #1 as HQ for this event. It is the first shelter you come to with the playground. Look for the TDSA sign.

The Rock guys will be camping at shelter # 2. After 11pm there will also be an acoustic jam going on here as well so if you have an instrument and can keep a beat come on over.

As always you can camp anywhere you want but if you want to hang with DG'ers then grab a spot at shelter # 1, or # 3, or where all the roudy people hang by hole # 10 on Bear's Lair.

Stop by shelter # 1 on your way in for a mini schedule of the weekend events. You can also pay your camping fees there as well.

Whether you're pitching a tent or sleeping in your car you are still considered camping if you're in the park after the gate closes so either carry your camping permit with you or have it visible on your driver side dash board so we don't have to tow your car out at 2am.

ALL EVENT REGISTRATION WILL HAPPEN APPROX 1 hour - 45 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE SPECIFIC EVENT AT SHELTER # 3 BY BEAR'S LAIR.

There currently looks to be a chance of rain so bring your rain gear just in case.

Don't forget that Oktoberfest is just about 4 miles down the road.

Party this weekend and then get serious the weekend after at the OO.:)

Thank you Mr. Forest!!!

BTW, to everyone out there.

Camping is officially only Friday and Saturday night.

Just because this is the "Sooner" state, that does not mean show up Wednesday night (like some Jugheads last night), or Thursday night and pitch a tent as it will only attract the attention of local law enforcement and could possibly land you on a community service chain gang.

I'm not sure if it was DG'ers but considering at the last Chandlerstock in April somebody did the same thing on Thursday night, I'm thinking beer and the love of discs flying in the air might have had something to do with it.

This is going to be an awesome weekend! I don't know if the climbers will climb in the mist, but the rockers will be arockin' and the disc throwers will be athrowin'!!! Octoberfest...Be Fest... The drinkers will be adrinkin'!
So if you can survive tomorrow and Saturday, it's an all CTP mini Sunday with the Duffer! The more players we get to attend Sunday the more $$$ WE have a chance to take home!

Ok more updates…..

First, the “not so bad” bad news…..

One of the park personnel screwed us and accidentally booked a private party at our HQ (Shelter # 1) from 12pm-3pm Saturday. Don’t me started because I’m already kind of PO’d about it. The good news is other than this specific time period, we have it for the whole weekend so if you want to pitch a tent near shelter one on Friday then everything should be fine. All we have to do is just clear out of the shelter around 11:30am on Saturday and allow them use of the shelter and parking. We’re back in at 3pm.

If you’re in doubt of how close to camp someone at the park will advise you. Just use common sense and give these people a little space. If you want you can always drag your tent closer after 3pm.

Please keep in mind the only purpose I reserved this shelter is because the Rock guys have taken shelter # 2 where we normally HQ Chandlerstock. If someone wants to pre-register for a Saturday or Sunday event on Friday night I will do that but other than that consider shelter # 1 as the TDSA information booth and the DG family campground only. The bathroom is close and picnic tables are close by and we can spread out all the way over to the old activity building if we want to.

We have shelter # 3 reserved for us as well so please feel free to camp around there as well as it will discourage non-disc golf “poachers” from trying to move in on our turf.

If you don’t pre-register then remember REGISTRATION FOR ALL EVENTS WILL START APPROX 45 MINUTES TO 1 HOUR BEFORE THE EVENT AT SHELTER # 3 BY BEAR’S LAIR HOLE # 1 (SHORT COURSE). Three other TDSA TD’s besides me have volunteered their time and effort for free this weekend to help run these so please check your schedule for event times and the man in charge. Your support at these TDSA events are 100% directly benefiting the TDSA and next weeks OO.

Schedules will be available at shelters # 1, 2, and 3 or you can do me a favor and go here http://www.tulsadiscsports.org/befestschedule.html and print one out.

Camping permits will be available at shelters # 1 & # 2.
$5 per person / per night.
No charge for children 12 and under.

Check out the Rock Guy’s at shelter # 2 as they will be selling festival shirts and posters as well.

I also heard something about 8 kegs of “Choc” beer over there also. I don’t think it’s free though so bring your own beer money.

The stage is covered so I believe the music will go on rain or shine and I’m hearing something about a super large tent or something near the stage for those that are looking to stay a little dryer then the average disc golfer.

Ok one final thing.

The TDSA was invited into this thing. Other than the donation of some Rocs the TDSA has not invested any cash nor has it ever been asked to which is great. Unlike Chandlerstock neither the TDSA or I am in charge of security so I am highly recommending that if you plan on camping or sleeping in your car, take care of that camping fee before you pass out because they will be checking and I am not there to save you.

I recommend parking your car close to your tent and whether you have a tent or not, put your permit on the driver’s side dash board so you don’t get questioned.

Also, if you feel like you might be the type of person to power drink to the point of total alcohol saturation and then try to drive or ruin the party for everyone else then I recommend you stay home. It’s never been a problem at Chandlerstock so let’s make sure it doesn’t happen here because this is the first year of this festival and I want to be invited back.

Now let’s all peace out and enjoy the sport.

I want to thank everybody that came out last weekend to support Be-Fest. Even though the forecast of bad weather kept the numbers low it was still a great time with the music echoing through the trees and Saturday night with the full moon shining light through the trees reminded me of why I love this park so much.

I knew I was going to have a good time the minute they handed me a walkie talky and the keys to a golf cart. I cant repeat everything Marie and I heard on the on this walkie talky but I can tell you the communications going on between the Rock Guys was a show in its self.

Things like.

Hot chicks setting up a tent by shelter 2

Would who ever stole the keg out from underneath the stage please bring it back?

Ground control to Major Tom.

Has anybody seen my pipe?

And probably 1000 other things that would be in violation of FCC rules.

I want to give special thanks to John Barton, Wayne Forest, and Dough Duff for volunteering their time for free to run their events. The club raised over $600 in mini fees and disc sales and about $100 in camping fees into the Chandler DG account.:)

I also want to thank Maries watchful eye in telling me to WATCH OUT FOR THAT TREE!!!!.:o

Thanks again everybody and Be-Fest will return next year.
