John is still in ICU at Southcrest. He had a little set back and he and his family decided that he would go on a ventalator. John elected to be sedated while on the vent. The docs ran some dialisis yesterday and will possibly again today. Please keep John and his family in your prayers.

If anyone wants updates, feel free to call me.

Is he ok?

He is stable for now. He did well with dialisis today. Still sedated. All his "numbers" have improved since yesterday. I will be back up there tomorrow at some point and will give more updates then.

I don't know John very well but what I do know of him he is a very nice guy. Anytime one of our peers health is at risk it's a sad day. I wish John and his family the very best. You are in my prayers.

I was unable to go see John today. But, I spoke with his wife, Debbie. She told me that John woke up a bit today and was able to open his eyes per the request of his doctor. His numbers keep improving and they have been able to extract about 10-15 pounds of fluid that was backed up in his body.

On a lighter note. When John woke up he was giving the nurses some grief. They asked if he needed more pain meds and he was able to non-verbally tell them no. Now, they still over-rode his decision and put him at ease again, but it is a great sign that he is aware of his body and his surroundings.

The funny part is after that, both is mother and his wife lectured him. Go figure. For us guys it is good things don't change.

John is now out of the ICU. He is still recovering. His fine motor skills are lacking and his brain keeps jumping from one thought to the next. He called me @ 3:30 this morning and thought I was not coming to see him for the OSU game. I had to tell him he is calling about 9 hours early. He starts physical therapy tomorrow and will have to re-learn to walk and some other basic skills.

I spoke with his nurse after he called me. He said John is doing well physically, but it will take some time for his brain to catch up. I am by no means a medical minded person, but will ask my wife when I see her this morning if this is normal given what he has been through.

FYI:

Just got off the phone with Mike Barr, he asked that I post for him.

He saw John today and said he is doing much better and they have removed all of the IVs and any hookups they had on him. He was up walking and should be released this week to be home with his family where he belongs.

John had a MRI done and it showed that his Gallbladder may have been the culprit. He is having it removed today 11/24 @ 1100. He is in high spirits about it. It will not be as "routine" as any other because of the swelling in is abdominal area.

REFLECTION:

I have literally walked hundreds even thousands of miles with John both playing golf and just spending time with him. We have had thousands of conversations: about the little things in life, our families, our faith.

All of those miles and all those conversations pale by comparison to the 100ft walk we took together 2 nights ago. I have never in my life been so proud of what this man has came through.

One more minor procedure John, and we can have more walks and more conversations. I am looking forward to it.

Wow, another gallbladder. That was Julie's problem and it had been infected for several months and went unoticed by her and her doctor.

Glad to hear he is feeling better and can see the day coming that he gets to go home.

At least he has an excuse for a swollen abdomen.:D

John came out of surgery well. I was not able to see him tonight, but Deb said he feels 100% better.

The doctors said his gallbladder was pretty well toast. It was the root cause of these problems. We think the worst is behind him now. They expect him home on Friday.
