Vinnie Your the Man and Tatoo (Ed) also but who could forget the Third in the Trio LaLa Thanks for all you do.

Just courios - why would you call Ed Tatoo? He's not got a single piece of ink on him & I've never heard him say "da plane, da plane" even at the airport:). OMG you think Edman & Metal Mike are the same person - yuck:(. Look a little closer next time you're around the 2 of them - you'll see one is clean & pretty & the other is covered in ink. The ink one - not the Edman.

The entry fees should be posted to www.dblrdgc.com soon if not already.

We are in our final edit of the 1st release of information and it's taking a little bit longer than anticipated. We want to ensure we are giving you all good solid information. It will be posted and linked to the website soon. I'm so glad TWC/Mixed dubs is behind us so the #1 focus can be USWDGC.

All players including Juniors will have to be current PDGA members and pass the players exam. This is required for all PDGA Majors and NT's.

The weekend of the tournament is also the same weekend as Austin City Limits (ACL) Music Festival. The festival is sold out and rooms in the Austin area are starting to book rapidily. Round Rock will receive a lot of the overflow from the festival and will fill up as well so don't delay and book your rooms early.

We have also partnered with Extended Stay America for overflow and those who would like the aminities of a kitchen. Just mention US Women's Disc Golf Championships when booking. This hotel is just across the street from the host hotel Sleep Inn.

Done. Is there a similar concern regarding lodging for the weekend before, for those planning to attend Outlaws? Alternatively, is there a thread for Outlaws yet? I could not find one.

Jun 28 2011, 10:34 AM
Lodging Outlaw's weeking should be no problem - details for Outlaw's are on the club thread on the discussion board & will be on the club website tournament page ASAP (www.dblrdgc.com). I'll have a thread on the tournament page soonish also - not too many people read here anymore, so I'll use Face Book & e mail mostly. We usually don't have a host hotel for Outlaw's - everyone stays with locals - but I'll talk with both of the women's host hotels & see if I can't work a deal for a better rate if you're there both weekends - and/or stay all week.

The Double R DGC is hosting a tag challenge on the OSP gold course next Saturday at noon I think. Signup at hole 1, tags will be for sale. We'd love to see some female pro and adv players there to play and supply some feedback on the layout as we near final tweaks. Some updates have been done to sections of the website so visit frequently as we are also nearing final edits of the schedule. Thanks again to all the folks out there making this happen by sponsoring the event. Visit www.dblrdgc.com/ladies for all the information for the event.

A couple of questions...

To the TD/staff: Are the Pro & Adv divisions (Pool A) really only playing 3 rounds? I thought this tourney was always 5 (or 5.5) rounds in the past. Also, has it been decided what courses will be played? I never played out there so I wanted to start getting an idea of what to expect.

To other players (or anyone really): By chance, is anyone going from the Austin airport to the host hotel on Wednesday around 10pm that may have room in their car for one more?

Only 4.5 weeks! I can't wait! Thanks to the TD, staff, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone else that has worked hard to make this tourney possible!

In looking at the proposed schedule....does pool A play the same course each day? And how many holes on the Gold configuration?

vinnie
Aug 17 2011, 10:11 AM
OH WE GETTING CLOSE!
Pool A follows the USDGC model .........tee times on a 21 holes at the GOLD ROCK (like that John) that will test your length as well as shot placement....then a final 9
Pool B will play the Texas Women's Championships model at Cat Hollow and Wilco.......2rounds at Wilco Friday......with one round at Cat hollow for the rest of the time. Trust me ladies the format will seem like you played 5 rounds.
Our mission is to ensure a championship atmosphere with the opportunity to enjoy Central Texas hospitality.
Cheeto......don't hesitate to give me a call if you are unable to secure a ride.....Our staff maybe be able to get someone to pick you up

suemac
Aug 17 2011, 10:29 AM
So, those of us in the A Pool, we won't be seeing any of the B pool girls during the day.....so make arrangements for those traveling with ladies in both.

Aug 17 2011, 11:45 AM
Pool B and will not see much of each other Friday.......but Saturday and Sunday B pool will finish in time to watch most of the A pool and enjoy our hospitality area at the Rock....We have schedule the weekend in a manner that allows all players to enjoy each others company
Thursday evening .......Players meeting / banquet (This is one of our big expenses) great food and at great place. We will be feeding staff and players......AND CHARGING all others. We have to have a head count so we don't buy too much or have enough. If you have ever planned food for 150+ people you will know how big a challenge that is.<O:p</O:p
Friday evening.......ice cream social watching the bats leaving their day time home<O:p</O:p
Saturday evening.......we are encouraging the players to go out and enjoy the Austin / Round Rock area attractions......the staff will be enjoying "POOL BALL" and refreshments at Old Settlers.....the players are invited also....so this could be a really good time.<O:p</O:p
ALL three days...........Lunch will be provided for the b pool Friday, the rest of the time........ Staff and players have free run at the hospitality area which will include food, beverages; games and therapy...........make sure to take advantage of this.

Not sure why all the faces.....their are cute!<O:p</O:p

Is there anywhere those of us not able to play this weekend can see the layout of the gold course? A Map maybe.

TD told me a caddy book will be online in one week.

Ropes are in the ground and will be up all month.

Here is what I remember, but the TD said he might "tweek" some things:

Everyone will play from the shorts. For the water in play on holes 2-4, in the water and over the ditch are ob, but in the ditch and dry is not.

Hole 1 is normal.

Hole 2 just has the sidewalk and water as ob.

Hole 3 has an OB line that starts about 120 feet out and you have to drive at least that far to land fair. The line circles around back in and then out and around again, so there is a layup area and a green connected by a narrow peninsula bounded by the ditch.

Hole 4 has a circular ob area roped off about 400 feet out that is normaly wet, so don't land in it. There is an ob line up by the bridge that extends the ob line of the sidewalk and, in conjunction with the ditch, forces you to throw over or under the bridge to approach the basket.

Hole 5 has a huge ob area to the right forcing you to drive for a narrow strip of land bounded by the rope and the road.

Hole 6 is very similar to hole 5, with the safe area to the left of the rope.

Everything else is normal except a couple of holes. I think they are holes 9 and 11, but I'm not sure. Assuming I am right about the hole numbers, hole 9 is an island hole with a layup area. Your first shot has to come to rest in bounds or you have to retee. So you can land in the layup area and then drive over the island ob and drop on the island at your last point ib, or you can keep driving for the island from the tee and reteeing if you go ob. Hole 11 has a double mando that is clearly marked.

That's basically it. I had the privilege of playing two rounds on it with Lisa Fajkus, and Lourdes Linares also played the first round. Lisa is a 918 rated player who lives 13 miles from this course and knows it like the back of her hand. She threw 14 over and 18 over on this 21 hole course. Lourdes is an 816 rated player who threw 29 over, and I am a 770 rated player who threw 40 over and 37 over. I was throwing 3s and 4s on most holes, but holes 4, 5, and 6 are insane. I've never thrown over a 9 before on a hole, but I threw two circles tens on hole 4, and a triple circle twelve on hole 5. Circle sevens on hole 6 for me. I threw a double circle eight on the island hole the first time, but laid up for an easy par the second round. Lisa birdied it both rounds. The others found most of their extra strokes on holes 4-6 as well. So, good luck with the wind and the OB on these three holes.

Lala
Aug 22 2011, 10:44 AM
All notes sound right to me Jennifer - except I think you have the numbers mixed up on 9 & 11. 9 is on top of the hill & should have a double mando & 11 is down on the road with the island. Wish I could have made it out, we were @ a concert in San Antonio - sounds like you guys had a great time!!

See ya'll at Outlaws! :)

I was thinking I would drop back and play int after that island hole on the first round, but then the TD explained to me that the mandatory retee no longer applies once you land safely in the layup area. So that's not too bad.

It is a very tough course, and even the top pros will undoubtedly finish over par, but advanced masters cards are so rare, I can't see missing out on the chance to play on a card of ladies my own age, even if the course is out of my league.

The only thing I really worry about for some players is the requirement on holes 3 and 16 to throw far enough to land ib. If the wind is really unfavorable, some ladies playing up to play masters could have some trouble, especially with the long water carry on 16. I've seen a rec lady playing up to fill a card almost run out of discs trying to throw 150 feet safe in a mandatory retee situation, just because the headwind was so strong. This one on hole 3 is only about 120 feet. Still, a drop zone would help in this type of situation. As for the water carry on 16, I can see some 800+ rated short game specialists even having trouble with that one, and there's nowhere to lay up. So a drop zone is really needed there. That's what I think, anyway.

suemac
Aug 22 2011, 05:07 PM
I've played that general layout, and know that a good number of the ladies who are not anywhere close to 800 rating should drop back, as this is supposed to be fun, not painful. Fun times will be in abundance no matter what division is played! Also, for speed of play, flow on a card, having a rec level girl on your card on this course would just not be fun for anyone.

I hope they will consider some of your suggestions, as those guys, they have such big arms, they sometimes forget about the girls, and that we're not all like Paige, Val, and Des. ;)

Aug 23 2011, 05:52 PM
This is a Championship and we have a championship course set up that will challenge EVERY aspect of a players game (not just how far one throws)

I hear the concerns and will have more testing done prior to the event with some tweaking
#3 is 120 feet to a safe landing zone with a tail wind
#16 to clear the water the landing zone is 140 feet with a tail wind.
PLEASE NO-ONE take out of content ! We are a group of guys that have dedicated endless amounts of our time to pull off the best USWDGC ever and we are very interested in constructive criticism'
From my experience running female events an advance player and above should be able to come to rest safely from these distances.
The problem with our sport is we have no qualifying school to qualify the players in their skilled level of play. Anyone can play up and this makes it challenging for course set up. But if someone wants to play up....they should expect to be subject to the same course as the better divisions.Times is changing .......divisions are more defined in the female ranks, because someone is over 40 and has always played advance in past events.....doesn't mean they are an advance master skilled player....sure the can play in that division but they may not be competive in that division. Same in every division......A TD cannot stop a player from playing up

JenniferB
Aug 23 2011, 10:05 PM
Thank-you. We really appreciate everything you guys are doing and the juggling act required to put together tournaments and share courses in this manner. I have had my eyes opened recently in trying to deal with local cities, even having an offer to add mulch at a severely muddy course at my own expense refused or delayed until next year. We can only imagine what you guys have had to go through in order to pull everything off.

We are excited at how women's disc golf is growing, especially among the youth. But don't forget that there are only 36 masters age women in the world rated 800 or higher, and only 3 of those in Texas. At TWC, 80% of us were "playing up." And while layouts designed for pro men can become frustrating to us on occasion, it's still worth it to us to attend and play up together for the social experience. Some masters age ladies have expressed to me privately that they would like to see advanced masters moved to pool b. That wouldn't be my preference, but it might be something to consider, so I thought I should pass that along.

vinnie
Aug 24 2011, 09:14 AM
Thanks Jennifer!....we are considering a drop zone for #16 to avoid delays in play by the way.....The concept is every lady playing the gold course will be challenged on every shot.
This will be the best tourney Ed and I have EVER puTT on and by far this event has the largest budget we have had to work with.
We know that mandatory membership and certifaction will hurt our attendances, but we have targeted 150 players and 50 staff members.
So ladies we need you to sign up and encourage your friends to sign up. We have done are part So get out there and lobby these ladies.

vinnie

B pool will be getting lunch at their course for Friday.....All other days B pool will play one round in the morning then head over to OSP to enjoy the player /staff hospitality area. Which will have free food and beverages all day.
The hospitality area will have a putting contest and lots for the players to enjoy.
Caddies are on their own.
Thursday night is the players meeting / banquet for players and staff. All others will be charged for the meal. We have rented a country club (STAR RANCH) and hired a cater. This is one of our major expenses. We need an accurate count of attendance to ensure enough food. We will have a list of players and staff....but will need to know of anyones else. This is a opertunity to meet the other players and staff in a formal atmosphere.
Friday night is the Vibram ice cream social.......free icream sunday buffet for the player/staff. We have arrange an area near the IH35 bridge that has the largest urban bat population in the US. The social will be during the time the bat leave the bridge.....should be fun.
Saturday night we want to encourage the players to enjoy central Texas on their own. A staff party will be at OSP at the end of the day which will include POOL BALL, FOOD, AND DRINKS. The players are of course invited as well

Lala
Aug 24 2011, 11:08 AM

The on-line registration is not sent to the TD every day, it sends batches to him. A few sign-ups came in last night, I'd guess the list will be up dated this weekend. Thanx so much for everyone's positive support!!

I'm so freaking excited to come to Texas! I can't wait to get there. I am glad I came to read the discussion board. Pretty much all my questions were answered from reading it. Vinnie, thanks for all the hard work and all the info on here and the website and for the event. It makes things much easier for the traveler! :) I will see you guys around the 13th! Can't wait to have some beers with you SueMac! :)

Vinnie, I have a really sweet CTP or 'whatever you want to do with it' donation from Lisa Harbour of Kalamazoo, MI. She is a photographer/disc golfer and took pictures of things that look like letters of the alphabet, and she gave me the words DISC GOLF out of pictures and I'm currently working on finding a frame for it before I leave. Just wanted to let you know it was coming so you could start thinking of what you want to do with it. It's pretty sweet:) See you next week!!

I'll have the updated players list up shortly and the revised schedule of events up just as soon as our web guy can get it done. Juniors is now part of B pool and there is no C pool. They will be playing some shorter tee boxes on Wilco and Cat Hollow. Both Rounds at Wilco for B pool will be played on Friday and Cat Hollow will host one round Sat and Sun.

Ed, just an fyi..

One of the LOLO's that is playing has a rating of 807 and is listed on the players list under Rec but the rating is a mistake due to LOSO and I was informed by the TD that it should be fixed by next rating update.. She just got her PDGA number like a month ago after LOSO which was her first tournament ever.. Wanted to make sure you knew and everybody who see's that on the list that she is in her correct division..

Thank you!

There is now a Advanced Grand Masters division being offered for the ones asking for that division.

Just over a week out so please get signed up if you will be making the event. Final head counts are needed. If you are providing a caddy for the event I have counted him as making the banquet if you are from out of town so we would have our head count close. They are not required to go to the banquet but figured they would join the expierence. He will be responsible for buying his own meal. Please let us know of any arrangements that need to be made for out of towners as well.

Played the OSP 21 hole course with the added OB for the 1st time last night (yes really). For someone that plays there regularly, it's a nice change. The fairways are defined but fair. I thought about the "not lefty friendly" comments & came to the conclusion that the fairway's are the same width no matter what hand you throw with :) I went OB once during the round in the road on hole 5, but was able to play course management & keep it in the lines the rest of the round. I played with 2 Rec women & they struggled a little on some of the big holes, but not due to the distance of needing to reach in bounds. On 3 & 11 they were easily able to lay up & throw to the second in bounds area taking 4's & 3's - same scores or better than they would have normally taken.

Now let's get this party started!!! One week & counting from the banquett @ Star Ranch - how cool is that?

If you are going to be there or have a friend with a good camera please get in touch with me. I can offer suggestions to getting the best pictures possible for our DiscGolfer magazine.

I signed up way early and there was no caddie or banquet selection for me. I will be bringing a caddie. We are on a special diet and might need to eat elsewhere.

Getting the menu from Stef & we'll have it here & on website ASAP. Not sure the price for non players, Edman will get that up soon.

Another group of on line entries came through @ 1:00am this morning, I'm sure Edman will update the list again tonight.

The caddie book is getting it's final edits & shold be up on the website soon. The course has had a lot of testing, so a few last minute tweaks before putting it out in public were needed. It's pretty straigt forward - stay in the designed fairway. Landing zones are there for small arms & some punishment for big arms that go for the gusto. Play Smart, Keep it simple - and not just cause that's my sponosrs catch phrase :-)

Mini on the Gold Course Wed @ 5:00 hole 1. $5 entry $400 ace pot for current Double R members.

OB string has been added to tighten fairways on holes 3-7, double mando on 9, & string on 11 & 17. it's not quite 10,000 feet - it closer to 9,400 feet - but who's counting :-) plus once you add all the side to side & re-throws after going OB 10,000 feet should be pretty close to real :)

FYI from the williamson county website

County Prohibits Smoking in Its Parks (http://www.wilco.org/Home/tabid/36/EntryId/944/County-Prohibits-Smoking-in-Its-Parks.aspx)

By Public Information Officer on 9/13/2011 2:57 PM
The Williamson County Commissioners Court today amended the burn ban that was adopted July 19, 2011, to include prohibiting smoking in Williamson County owned parks, preserves and trails due to the extreme drought conditions and high fire danger. Outdoor cooking is allowed as long as it is done in an enclosure that serves to contain all flames and/or sparks. The order also allows welding, cutting and grinding operations or hot works operations when they comply with specific fire safety guidelines. The burn ban is in effect until October 17, 2011.

It sounds like I missed a great tournament! It really looks like you ran a solid event. I wish I could have come, but work got in the way. I always hear great things about the Texas Women's Championships and hopefully will make it out there before long! You know it is a great tournament when people keep coming back.

When we ran USWDGC in Huntsville, we added $9,000 to the pro purse and paid over 300% on the AM side. The total pro purse was $12,090.

... I am mostly done, whew.

I labeled about 90% of the images with names and plan on finishing this in the next day or so. My goal was to get all the pics edited and uploaded, some of the bundles were over 4GB a batch (I take LARGE images with my camera).

Thank you Ladies for the opportunity to shoot your beauty & grace in form and fashion on the courses.

You will notice on my pages that there are many of the Pool B shots and only Leader Cards from Pool A (the last day). No bias intended, but with all the photogs no one was shooting the Pool B groups to include the amazing Junior Ladies (wow.. they were awesome)... and everyone was shooting the Pool A cards; so I filled the gap as only being one person to try and be everywhere...lol. It's understandable that everyone wants to follow friends and the Pro's, I just like to get as many as I can or fill the voids.

I also took as many pictures as I could from "around the course" to capture the feeling of the event: the food, casual talk, intimate moments, the massage therapy, etc. With that, there were too many people in some of the shots, so there was no label. Sorry for not getting you the credit/naming you.. but your friends know who you are!

All in all, please pass the word around that the pictures are up. I handed out many business cards with the links, but some may have lost them and I am not friends with everyone on Facebook or other Social outlets.

Remember, the images are copyrighted and you may use these images for personal use/personal download (no problem). If you desire for them to be used for a website, product, commercial purposes, etc. PLEASE contact me so that I know who/where/why they are going... I have yet to turn down a request, but its a professional courtesy for me and the players.
Currently some of the PDGA and local Parks Departments have already requested your images to promote the sport. You make me honored that I was there to take the picture.

There is a few unsung hero’s out there that need to be recognized for going above and beyond at this weekend’s successful event:

JD Baker, Steve-o, Blake, Martin and C-dub. I can’t thank you enough for doing what you guys did. From setting the course up Thursday, to obtaining all the food, making sure we had safe food handling practices, to organizing activities related to the hosp. area, to assisting and printing the caddy books and for motivating other Double R members to help out. You guys are top knotch and you need to be commended for your efforts. This did not go unnoticed, so thank you very much

Women Throwing Frisbee’s is also an incredible bunch of ladies that spent countless hours planning this event. They donated $1800 cash and $1000 in merchandise. Stephanie Vincent’s vision with the assistance of Laura Coffey and the other WTFer’s was quite impressive. The fundraising tournaments that were held to acquire funds were not easy and again I commend the entire group for stepping up and showing the nation how we do it in Texas. I will be stepping down as a tournament director after 10 years of doing this for a much needed break and return to civilian life. I look forward to yelling… FOUR at all of you from behind you in the fairway.

What a fantabulous time! Even with an injury & my 1st DNF in a PDGA event, Texas hooked it UP!!! I wouldn't have survived without the massages & thank God for my caddy.

I enjoyed every bit of the Texas hospitality & meeting a bunch of great ladies. Got to play on some super awesome cards for the tourney.

I also got a bunch of pics put up on FB & my caddy will be putting up more. Come find me & see: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2199621203575.115189.1638636917&type=1

I'll def be back. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Quick heads up. In the Official Results, there's something wrong with the score reporting in the advanced master's division. It shows Ginger and Lisa placed 1st and 2nd, when they actually finished 4th and 5th, respectively. Similarly, Stacey, Jennifer, and Sue were actually 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, respectively, not 4th, 3rd, and 5th. Also, the final 9 round scores for Stacey, Jennifer, and Sue are missing.

Ratings got updated and it still says I got 3rd instead of second, and that Stacey got 4the instead of first, etc. May we have an update on any progress being made in getting this fixed?

I heard a rumor that every time you try to input the data that Ginger didn't win, the PDGA server says, "That does not compute!" And then smoke starts pouring out.

Thanks for fixing the results!

I heard a rumor that you somehow included the data that Ginger was injured, and the computer was finally able to process it successfully.

It appears that the final 9 scores for the advance women are now wrong. Currently the final standings and scores for the final 9 are listed as follows;

1. Nicole 43
2. Wendy 36 *
3. Shannon 41
4. Kristi 42 *
5. Sara 43 *
6. Diana 44
7. Tiffany - 42

Previously, the final standings and scores for the final 9 where listed as follows;

1. Nicole 43
2. Shannon 41
3. Sara 36 *
4. Wendy 42 *
5. Kristi 43 *
6. Diana 44
7. Tiffany - 42

Therefore the final 9 scores for Wendy, Sara, and Kristi have changed. Please look into this.

The PDGA should have the corrected report now & are adjusting the ratings.
