This year's LOSO will be our 9th annual.

We need a few willing volunteers to help put this thing together.

Not only will you receive the same players package as the amateurs, this year's staff pack will include more goodies than ever before.

Are we trying to bribe you? Yes. But more importantly you can be part of something larger than yourself: helping to bring a great event to our little corner of Texas.

Send an email to [email protected] if you can help out for a day or both days or even one round.

Speaking from personal experience, it's very rewarding to help stage a great tournament like LOSO. I was surprised at how often tournament players would thank you and tell you how much they appreciate the work you're doing; it's a great feeling.

Come help us run LOSO. The more people helping, the less work for everyone, and the better the tournament we can offer for the players.

Let me put in my annual request ...

Can we please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please play 2 full 18 hole layouts at Live Oak including all of the fun hard difficult holes. That includes 6-9, 11 A-C, 15 A-C, 12 (good greif why don't we play 12 any more).

Also, I'm willing to help with pre-touney stuff & post tourney staffing duties as long as I can play too. Just let me know or add me to the DL or the meetings or whatever.

Here are the difficulties with two layouts at Live Oak.

1) Requires more spotters, support, water, and staff.
2) The front holes do not flow well with long walks between holes 28/6 and 11B/C for example.
3) Requires temp baskets which have been stolen before.

The biggest problem is staff. Too many people want to play and not enough people want to staff.

However, this decision is NOT carved in stone YET. If we had enough volunteers, we could pull it off.

Running a few events this year has really opened my eyes to what it takes to make a tourney fun and exciting. I am with JC.. I am more than willing to help (but I loved this event last year and am planning on playing) with any pre or post tournament stuff. Let me know...

I appreciate the offers of pre-tourney help. However, we pretty much have all that under control and there is not all that much to do.

We need more staff during the tournament.

If you took the staff allocated for UC and moved them to LO you could easily have two different layouts going at the same time! I would much rather have a couple of walks between holes at LO then having to go to two different courses.

Playing devils advocate here ...

Not so sure more spotters are required. You need a spotter on 15 B and that's really it at LO. That's just my personall perspective.

2) the walking isn't that big of a conern. Can we get BK to dive people recklessly in a cart again, that was FUN! Also the walk from 11b to 11c is like 10 seconds if you use the holes as designed.

Not sure what extra in round staff is required for two layouts. The water and basket setup is pre and post round stuff.

3) You can use my basket, I'll take the risk.

By popular demand...we have a compromise. Here is the plan:

On Saturday, half the field will play Universal City while the other half plays Live Oak "City Lake" blended layout.

On Sunday, Live Oak will be split into Lake and City Hall courses. Everyone will play Live Oak Sunday.

Four rounds, four different layouts. More variety should make things more interesting. Plus everyone will be together on Sunday.

At this point I will again make my pitch for volunteers. And I will amend what I wrote earlier...with this change, we CAN use a few folks Friday afternoon and maybe Saturday to help set up, since there is a lot more to set up now.

ATTENTION!!!!!

The Layouts have been tweaked, and the ISLAND HOLE makes its RETURN to LOSO.

Universal City - No change, 1-18

Live Oak "City Lake" Saturday:
1,4*,6,7,8,9,10,14,15,16,17,22,23,24,25,26,27,28

Live Oak Lake Sunday:
1,4*,6,7,8,9,10,11,11A,11B,11C,12,14,15,15A,15B,15 C,28

Live Oak City Hall Sunday (no change)

*Note: Hole 4 will be played backwards, not from 4's normal tee pad. It will be played as an island, as if surrounded by water on three sides. It should be called a peninsula hole, but we failed geography so we call it an island anyway.

John is not playing exact LOSO layouts, but he is trying to make sure every hole gets played between now and LOSO, at least as much as possible.

I will update him on the new layouts so he is aware, but obviously some holes cannot be played at a mini, such as temps, and playing 1 and 4 may interfere with soccer, etc.

so where are we teeing from? hole 5's tee?

No. There will be a temp tee box marked which is basically across the drainage ditch from 1's and 5's baskets.

There will be a drop zone if you do not make it on the island (peninsula).

What's the word on the tee location for 11B? Penninsula or original tee?

At UC what's the plan for 18 with regards to the pin location?

11B is going to be moved off the peninsula in the direction of the original tee, but I think a little closer to the water from the original. The closer peninsula may be the drop zone.

Regarding UC 18, that basket placement is so new that I am not sure we will use it. Plus it is pretty beat up from rolling down the hill several times. I will talk to the TD about it tonight.
