Talking shite is about all lil' Polly is good at, and he struggles mightily at that. I'll admit that he beat me by a couple head-to-head, and that as an absentee owner for the draft, my QB's (Harrington and Pennington) were damaging to my early season, but that will change.

With one of the top backs (Barber and Jones), and QB's (Manning...E. not P.), McCardell having a what could be a career year and a few fillins here and there, I'll turn it around.

In the matchup I've been waiting all year to win, The Loon absolutely destroyed the Teaminconsequential this week 87-35. Kicker Mike Vanderjagt was the second highest scorer on the latter's team with 8 points! The Teaminconsequential has now lost five in a row, and sits in 11th out of 12 places, and has been virtually eliminated from playoff contention.

After all the smack talk over the past several years, the Teaminconsequential showed he knows absolutely nothing about fantasy football.

I've always felt that:

There is surely a large luck factor in fantasy football, but doing your "homework;" research and analysis into matchups, injury reports, etc. can usually overcome a great deal of that.
The luck factor should affect everyone equally. It's NOT just you.
Even if the luck trumps all, the research and analysis, while time consuming, is fun and makes me appreciate all teams and players besides just that of my favorite NFL team. It also keeps me occupied and away from less useful activities like drinking and/or looking at porn. :D

I do that research stuff and try to find steals in the free agent market. I also have a habit of sitting a good player if he has a bad week, then he'll go off the next week.

Sometimes you get really bad luck, for instance McNabb is my #1 QB, and Rothelisberger is my #2...and they are both hurt :( so needless to say i didnt have a QB this week but amazingly i still have a chance to win my matchup if Gado comes through

I did enjoy myself in Baltimore. I had originally planned on tailgating, but opted for light rail when I found out that all the lots are reserved pass only. It baffles me how cities like Baltimore and Pittsburgh build stadiums with parking lots that are all reserved pass for season tickets holders only. How can there be no parking for out-of-town visitors, or locals who only see one or two games per year? When I go to Philadelphia or Giants Stadium to catch a game, there's plenty of parking everywhere.

I parked in Timonium to take the light rail down, but it was out of order so they used buses to bring us in. Can't beat a $3.50 round-trip ticket!

The stadium is nice. I especially liked the hospitality tents set up all around the outside, I think that is neat touch that I haven't seen at other venues. The venue set their all-time single game attendance record, mostly due to about 20,000 Steelers fans there - terrible towels were waving EVERYWHERE. This was like a home game.

The Baltimore fans around me were very cordial. I liked their self-deprecating humor - they cracked jokes about the team finally scoring a touchdown (Oh, we can score 7 points at a time?) and the hot debate of the day was who stunk worse - Boller or Maddox. There were a few fights in other sections between rowdies, but we were buying each other beers! It was a good game, and we all shook hands afterwards. Of course, after the win there were "Steelers sucks" chants and a lot of "Go back to Pittsburgh" yelled in my face as I exited the stadium, but that's to be expected. It was the high point of the season for them, and we''ll still be playing in January. :p

After the game, the bus took an hour to escape the city traffic - that sucked. The light rail better be fixed when I attend next year's game. :D

I couldnt agree more, Lamont Jordan couldnt score on three consecutive plays!!!!! and Gado barely played..... I had Cadillac and Willie Parker on my bench and they each scored... figures

I lost in the semi-finals this week because my RB, Sam Gado, strained his MCL tonight after only 6 carries and was lost for the remainder of the game. I would have advanced to the Superbowl had I played Mike Anderson instead - I left 21 points on my bench, arggh!!

I hold my head high, having accomplished my goal of outlasting the disc golfers in this league that I know - Cong, Atwood, Nesbitt, and Paul MD21954 Lichtinger. I'll be playing for third place next week and none of them even made the playoffs. Seeing the latter, The Team Inconsisent, fail miserably was worth the price of admission alone. :D

The way Heap came out had me sweating but soon as Gado went down I knew it was over. It feels good to be in the Superbowl of Congs league considering my team (autopicked) is next to last in Hawks league. Best case scenerio- I win Cong's league as well as the football pick league that sandalman set up.

Anyone here doing fantasy golf or nascar this year?

The thing I don't like about the golf and Nascar is everyone can have the same players/drivers. If you could draft teams like in the other sports it would be much better.

I'm okay with being able to select whoever you want as long as there is a salary cap. That way you can't wield a lineup each week of all the best players that are competing that particular week; you've got to pick and choose carefully.

But the real reason I didn't join any fantasy golf leagues this year is lack of interest. It gets exciting during the majors but nowadays and during the months of October and November it's almost painful. Just having to set a lineup then becomes a chore.

Fear not, fantasy afficianados; it will only be a few short months until Hawk sets up his "Fear The Turtle" NCAA Tournament Pickem. :cool:

A salary cap would be acceptable, but as I recall neither Yahoo! game had that. It was simply you could use a player/driver x number of times, and then no more.

No it's not ready yet, but I did pick up a new Orioles cap today at lunch. I wanted to take the pulse of potential participants to see if there was a preference for the head to head weekly showdown or an ongoing cummulative roto points scoring system. People tend to like the head to head for the win lose experience, but all of your effort is generally for naught (except for tiebreaking playoff spots) vs. the roto scoring system where everything counts, but I worry that more people might stop participating if they fall way behind in points two months in. Of course the same thing happens now, but it might be worse. I will be limiting the number of moves teams can make in all future leagues. This will be known as the Piranha rule from now on. ;) The other thing I wanted input on was trades. Do we want league voting for approval, or just let trades go through unreviewed? I've tried it both ways now, but I haven't decided what I like better. There is flaws with both ways.

Yes. I haven't decided on what the number will be, but I want to up the pressure a little bit for people to pay attention to the drafts (which will all be live starting with baseball) so it will be a small number. The number will obviously vary from baseball to football to basketball. Also in baseball and basketball I'll have more DL slots so teams can "call players up" as oppossed to having huge benches.

I just looked back at my fantasy football leagues, and the number of moves varied from a low of 1 to a max of 61, with the average almost exactly 20. Typically only one or two owners in each league exceeded 30 moves, so I think 30 would make a good number for maximum amount of moves.

I don't have enough interest in major league baseball to warrant a position in a fantasy league, so here's a nugget of fantasy advice: Take Phillies 1B Ryan Howard in the 3rd or 4th round. I watched this guy slug the home run record for the AA Reading Phillies (my hometown) and he continued his big-hitting ways in Philadelphia last season after taking over for the oft-injured Jim Thome. He has belted six dingers already in Grapefruit play this spring.

Wow, those are some interesting league settings. Besides the 'Piranaha' rule (maximum # of moves = 15) that league will have 7 defensive players, (!) 1 point per completion and -1 per incomplete pass for QBs, and 1 point per 10 return yards. Quarterbacks are at a premium (I would probably take Peyton Manning in the first round) as are good kick returners.

Yeah, Some of Hawks settings are quite harsh, but it's still fun.

A cap at 10 or 12 teams maximum. Head-to-Head 16 team leagues dilute the available talent too much.

1 point per 15 or 10 reception yards. 1 point per 20 yards de-values WRs too much. Remember last year how the contribution of WRs was nominal.

Milestone scoring: 1-3 points is a fair bonus for acheiving the milestones. 5 points is too much.

Milestone scoring: 300 yards passing and 150 yards rushing are fair. 200 yards receiving is not. I don't feel like looking it up, but I'm willing to bet that 200 yards in a game is achieved only once per twice per year. [/list]

I don't have enough interest in major league baseball to warrant a position in a fantasy league, so here's a nugget of fantasy advice: Take Phillies 1B Ryan Howard in the 3rd or 4th round. I watched this guy slug the home run record for the AA Reading Phillies (my hometown) and he continued his big-hitting ways in Philadelphia last season after taking over for the oft-injured Jim Thome. He has belted six dingers already in Grapefruit play this spring.

You should know by now that I don't care for fantasy baseball at all, or even baseball that much. I'm somewhat forced to follow the Philadelphia Phillies because everyone and their grandmother is a Phillies fan where I live.

It's Yahoo, pre-rank your players then set it for autodraft. Then work with trades and waivers. You're not going to get all your prime picks in a live draft anyway. :D

yea but in a live draft you can set up a draft strategy - deciding what you need most when it is your pick

if your auto draft nets you a center with your first pick, then you probably don't want another center with your 2nd pick, but theoretically, that could happen depending on how you rank your players

Hawk - Just a comment on the roto baseball league - the big problem is that there were so many "negative" counting statistics. I was able to allow a few guys to build my rate statistics (batting average, etc.) and then when people got hurt I just... let them sit there (or in the case of 3B - didn't play ANYONE in the slot all year). Because by virtue of having nobody in the lineup I couldn't add on numbers in those. I mean, look at the statistics I racked up points in:

Hitting: CS, E, GIDP, K and BA.
Pitching: L, H, BB.

With those as my base all I needed to do was luck into a category or two and wham - easy win. You just need to eliminate the negative counting statistics to make a roto league effective.


Though I do favor going to H2H next year anyway, I enjoy it more. I'd suggest doing one of each really. Hopefully I can make the drafts next year, I lucked into Greinke this year.

All valid points. This was our first dabble with roto and I think we all learned alot. I am going to go back to H2H next season, and if there is enough interest I may do a roto also.

Too many categories was definitely a problem. It was difficult to analyze your teams strengths and weaknesses.

Generally I like to have some negative categories but you point out one of the problems with doing that. We'll only have ten categories going forward.

One thing I'm going to do is eliminate wins and loses so pitchers are are competing with batters on a more even field i.e. batting avg. vs. era. This should minimize the old run a bunch of pitchers through to get wins or saves.
