This weekend out at Circle R Disc Golf Ranch is the last of the Winter Ranch Minis hosted by WDGC!

Sunday February 12th
It will be a two-round, one-day singles event.

Lunch will be available @ $5/person

Entry: $25 Pro
$20 Am
Entry fee includes the $5 greens fee and a $2 ace pot (ctp at end of day if there are no aces)

Sign up by 9:30am. We'll tee off at 10am, break for lunch, then start the 2nd round.

There is NO camping at Circle R right now, due to the burn ban. Normally, camping would be 'included' in your entry, but since there's no camping, we'll have a surprise, thanks to the Circle R staff, for all players who come out.

This event will also be a fundraiser for Tucker (the ranch dog). :D

If you have any questions, please call Patty @ 830-833-1254 or Mitch @ 512-563-6482.

I will really miss out on this one because I have to work Sunday. Dave and I will be there the day before on Saturday. I really need to practice these courses in preperation of Amatuer World Doubles in April.

It's way past tomorrow. The Zilker baskets are scheduled to move to the North side after Easter. The league will start on Thursday, April 20.

It'd be nice if there were a couple of minis the 2 weeks before that using the South course but nobody has committed to running them. Hence the lack of details. :)

Man, I wish I didn't have to work the next 2 Thursday nights! Kudos to you guys for doing the 1-disc mini.

When I do get the chance, I'll be there with the only disc for Zilker's south side: the DX Roc. :p

8 open and 9 ams yesterday.

Open
1 Micah 44 (Aviar)
2 Anthony 45 (Super Roc)
3 Graham 47 (driver? I forgot which one.)

Am
1 Lou 46 (Buzzz)
2 Leon 49 (Spider)
3 Mike B 50 (Beast)
4 Yankee Mike 51 (???)

We'll probably have to do something different next week since the Waterloo merch will be heading to Red Rock for Oktoberfest. Maybe some random draw doubles with a few holes of worst shot thrown in.

I thought about doing 3 alternate, 3 best score, and 3 worst shot but I don't want it to be too confusing.

Playing holes 1, 2, and 3 worst shot the 2nd time through will be enough. Especially if you draw Gordon and you both need to make the putt. :D

There are still just a few spots available in the 29th Annual Waterloo Disc Golf Classic, Oct 21-22. To register, send in your entry form and money right away (WDGC, PO Box 33531, Austin, TX, 78764). The full tournament info and flyer can be found at the clubs website: www.austindiscgolf.org (http://www.austindiscgolf.org) or email me for a copy ([email protected]).

You can also register tomorrow night at the mini at Zilker, but it might be full by then. We use the postmark to determine the date of entry so mailing it today is better than paying in person tomorrow. We dont hold spots for this tournament, so please dont ask :D; just mail in your stuff and Ill get you confirmation as soon as I can.

16 players last night.

1 Jon P / Yankee Mike 41
2 Micah / Anthony 42
3 Alex / Chuck 43
3 Leon / Chris 43

The masses voted and next week the format will be random draw doubles with 9 holes alternate and 9 holes worst shot. Those guys are psycho.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the group voted for 9 holes best shot and 9 holes worst shot. Should be quite interesting.

Just a reminder that this Sunday, December 3rd is the clubs first Winter Ranch Mini of the season: Circle R in Wimberley

And as a special treat, we will be including the 9 brand new holes first introduced for Texas Teams! Dont miss your opportunity to play these new holes at the Ranch.

Well play each course once, with a lunch break between the rounds.

Because we are including the new 9-holes, well need to start right on time in the morning, so dont be late in getting out there.

Also, Patty Justice will be making and selling lunch that day. $5 for a sandwich and chips (and maybe some soup or something hot not sure about that just yet). And if you remember last year, youll know that Patty makes a mean sandwich :D Just sign up and pay for lunch at the same time you sign up for the mini. She may have some extras for those who dont order in the morning, but if so it will be first come first served.

Entry Fee
$13 per person All Recreational & Intermediate
$18 per person All Advanced & Pro

Acepot $2 (optional fee - ctp at the end of the day if no one hits an ace)

Greens Fee $5 per person All Divisions

Vince Young Vince Young Vince Young. I'm really starting to hate one of my favorite players. The Texans are going to get three picks against the second to worst rated passer in the league and the week after that, freaking CBS is still going to show the Titans, but Steve will tell me the wrong gametime, so it won't hurt so much.

maverick
Dec 05 2006, 06:05 PM
That second to worse passer rating quarterback has a 5 and 4 record and the last time I checked that's all that matters, unless your one of those moral victories kind of guys. That being said you can feel good with your moral victory of intercepting VY twicw while Vince improves the only real record that matters to 6 and 4 :D
And just to rub salt into your wounds the Cowboys will be 9 and 4 but you go ahead and bask in your moral supremacy. Of course I will not see any of this because I will miss the game due to bad information /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

james_mccaine

so the payout is $ 11 in open or is that $18 plus 5 plus 2??

LouMoreno
Jan 04 2007, 02:22 PM
$18 to the Pro or Advanced payout
$5 to the greens fees
$2 to the ace pot

For Pro/Advanced, it's $23 total to play. $25 if you want in on the ace pot.

gordonmk
Jan 04 2007, 04:59 PM
But it is essentially a one-day, 2 round tournament. I would think that $25 (which includes both greens fees and ace pot) would be pretty reasonable for pro and advanced, or maybe even a bit low.

No?

Just a reminder that this Sunday, February 11th, is the 3rd Winter Ranch Mini out at Twin Parks Country Club in Dripping Springs. To get there, take Hwy 290 West. After crossing into Hays County but before you get all the way to Dripping Springs proper, turn left on Hays Country Acres Rd. The address is 1111 Hays Country Acres Rd. Enter the main gate and take an immediate right (please be sure to close the 2nd gate behind you), and follow the road to the clubhouse.

If you have a Twin Parks CC free day pass (these were in players packs at recent club tournaments), you can use it in place of the $5 greens fee.

As a special treat, an alternate 9 holes has been set up, near the main house I think. In the morning, everyone will play the Shire course. After lunch, everyone will play twice around the new 9-hole course. The Hill course wont be played at all this time.

These same 9 holes will be used at the Huck Fest tournament in a few more weeks, so this is a great chance to come practice them.

Hope to see you there,
Gordon

I agree Vin, a mini at Circle C would be cool.....oh wait, it's on Sunday morning....

Lou said the 5 missing holes are going back in at Bart this month....maybe a mini will pick up there again with all the holes in....

Believe me, IF I could make it fit my permanent schedule, I'd step up and take the reins on Tuesday's at Pease and/or Wednesdays at Bart. Unfortunately, I don't have those nights off, and I don't deal merch so I could only take the money and do the payout for one division....

Manor is home to a third-rate horse track; a first-rate cafe; and a fabled disc golf course, which is SUPPOSEDLY nearing completion, but that rumor has been around for years.

Mr. Olse designed the course. I have seen about 14 of the holes and it will be an absolute jewel, assuming it actually gets open.

Really, Mike is hoping it opens within a month. Really.

It is a County park. I think Mike originally had the youth works corps (or something like that) doing a lot of the work. He did a tremendous amount himself and had a core of devoted helpers. Dan Mueller and Chris Cain come to mind. Now, I think Mike and the County folks are doing most of the pads and sleeves work.

Funny guy!

Yes, 53 was the best score in open on Saturday but I wouldn't have told you that you couldn't beat that. That was only when Joel Kelly shot around 47. I'll give you a little bit of respect and say you can beat 53. Jon P may disagree since none of the other 14 open players there were able to do it.

James McCaine, sorry for ruining your round. If a mando or OB line is on the tee sign, it is in effect for the minis.

Who is Bill Oliver and what kind of shots does he throw? :p

Arbor day. Bunch of Austin hippies. I am just curious: why all the tree planting in a park. I mean, the word "Park" used to be synonymous with "open space" or a place where people could freely play in. Bart has plenty of trees, plenty of shade and enough open space to attract users to burn calories, rather than just stare at trees, admire the native grasses, or just burn a couple away from prying eyes. It already has a good mix for everyone. Were any of the park users clamoring for more trees? I would bet a million bucks that the 90% of the normal park users out there never said "Wow, we need more trees out here." It was probably an old dog walker or a young hippie that wrongly assumed that "the world would be better off if that park I've never used, or will use, had some more trees."

In short, there have to be places in Austin where there is actually a need for trees, can't they "fix" those places first?

Rant off. I think the heart of my animosity is that I really distrust Austin environmentalists.

Thank y'all for planting trees. There are lots of new ones and it will help the park.

However, planting trees right in the middle of where people sometimes play volleyball makes little sense. I'll just chalk it up as an indication that those choosing locations didn't know how people utilize the park. But, what the hell, those volleyball players can now look at trees. Some people prefer that to exercise.

LouMoreno
Oct 27 2008, 12:24 PM
272 trees were successfully planted. 5 of those were done by Mike Olse and myself. It is disappointing that only 2 disc golfers showed up for the tree planting. I don't see how PARD can take us seriously when disc golfers for the most part just want and take but don't make time to give back.

3 pros and 4 beginners showed up for the mini. 1 of the pros left when it looked like there would only be 2 of them and another was about 10 minutes late after the card had already teed off. I went to watch the Longhorns so I have no idea how they scored.

Not to start up with things, but the tree planting had nothing to do with benefiting disc golf, so I don't why PARD should expect disc golfers to show up in droves. Do they expect us to help plant trees at other parks in Austin?

Sorry for the attitude. I know that the Waterloo Board members have relationships with the City and understand that the those relationships are critical. It is probably the mature stance. However, I think a lot of other disc golfers see the City as one gigantic hindrance, going out of their way to impede disc golfers. I realize it is immature, but imo, those people are not people worth appeasing. It always seems like a one-way street with them, and I don't like the direction that street goes.

LouMoreno
Oct 28 2008, 02:31 AM
You're right that the tree planting had nothing to do with disc golf. It was just about giving a couple hours to a park where the disc golf course covers over half of it. It was about the Club dealing with Forestry quite a bit and having them do stuff that we need or want done. It was about Forestry running an event that was important to them and wanting the disc golfers to be a part of it. They had the silly idea that since we make such a big deal about trying to get the redesign approved and having the course back to 18 holes that disc golfers might care about the park as a whole instead of just their designated areas. I'm sure that department feels like they're on the wrong end of a one way street.

james_mccaine
Oct 28 2008, 10:03 AM
That seems like spin to me. I heard it was intiated by "keep Austin green" or something like that. Really, a lady that lived nearby intiated it. The idea had nothing to do with disc golf. I never heard the project being sold up front as "let's help the city so they will tolerate us and let us exist."

All I ever hear about Bart is that it is going to go, you can redesign, then you can't, you can't put the other holes back in, you can't have fairways here, or boxes there. I never hear "Hey, we are the parks and would like to work together with you on improving our assets."

So, the forestry department, or whatever department which impedes every disc golf effort (from my vantage) and continues to chip away at what is already there, is now offended because disc golfers didn't embrace their effort.

I'm sorry to express this, because I know y'all have to deal with them, but from my point of view, it kind of feels like if you don't cower to them, or kiss their butt, after they spit on you of course, then it is somehow bad form.

LouMoreno
Oct 28 2008, 11:23 AM
You're welcome to your beliefs but if you look back to when we first began discussing the Bart redesign, you'll see that Forestry (aka the tree trimmers) has indeed been working with us to improve the disc golf courses.
http://discussion.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=799138&Main=505884#Post7 99138

No one from PARD commented on the lack of disc golf volunteers. That was my personal disappointment and probably my fault for not selling it correctly. I should have said that for every tree you plant, a freshman Longhorn DB gets his wings.

james_mccaine
Oct 28 2008, 02:52 PM

Either I had some bad breakfast tacos or this thread is making me sick to my stomach. Lou, thanks for going out there and planting trees at Bart. I'm glad that you, and Osle, are out there kissing [censored] and getting crapped on by the city. I'm sorry that's what you gotta do, but I'm glad that someone is doing it for the rest of us. I am sorry I was unable to come out and help you kiss [censored] for the good of the club and discgolf in Austin. I do know the way the city works from our other ventures in the city so I'm glad that you are sacrificing your time, energy and effort for the rest of us. You know what, I think I'm going to head outside and hug a tree because I'm glad that there are little saplings growing out of the ground at Bart. I'm glad that someone did their part for arbor day, I mean that's what you supposed to do, right? Plant a tree. When you finally get fed up with dealing with the city, and they pull the course out, then where will McCain practice? I know a place in RR that doesn't have many trees. Maybe Wells Branch is closer. In the mean time keep on doing what your doing, Lou. At least some of us appreciate it. Also, I'm in no means calling you out, McCain.
