Civility is more often seen in face to face meetings. What happens here is too often way beyond the limits of civilized discussion.

^ true, ^ the trick it seems is not to throw the baby out with the bath water, and not to lament for days of old before the internet. instead, work to show that DISCussion Board conversation can be civil.

Here are a few things that work on the Internet as well as face to face: Really and truly.

(a) Don't lie.

(b) Don't make up "facts."

(c) Don't call names.

(d) Say what you mean.

If we all did that, these would certainly be civil discussions.

When it's not, it's because someone either decided not to do one of the five or doesn't even know they're not doing them: That kind of malevolence or ignorance is bad on the Internet as well as face to face. Always will be.

That's only four Terry. You forgot E: "Answer questions openly and honestly when asked."

I know, not your strong point, but one that still deserves to make your top five, since there appears to be an open slot.

(e) When you answer a question, answer it honestly.

I like it so much, it's something I've always done.

However, there is no need to answer every question to be civil, Jason. For example: In those famous words, "Just when did you stop beating your dog?"

Or, "What is the salary of the executive director."

Or, "Give us the details of why that person was suspended from the PDGA."

Or, well, most people will get the point.

help me understand why it's good we know the salary of the US President (our tax dollars pay the man or woman) but it is bad for us to know the salary of the PDGA executive director?

pretend i am completely ignorant (unless you already take that for granted) /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

With $216,600 as the 2006 budget for 4 full timers and three parttime consultants which also includes all benefits, we can deduce that the Executive Director makes exactly $54,261.38 annually. No wait, carry the 2, adjust by 5.3%, it's really $49,348.97. I'm sorry I forgot about the other adjustment, it's really $62,459.92. Oh wait, there's that other tweak, let's say $57,987.34.

There I hope everyone feels better about this disclosure. I really have no clue what the exact amount is but I'm pretty sure it's less than $100,000. The overall budget indicates that we're lucky to have had people of Brian's, Lorrie's, Dave's and Matt's calibers for that amount.

Geez, Chuck, why wouldn't some really supremely qualified disc golfer just volunteer to do this in their free time?

I can't believe that you're asking each PDGA member to pay $6 toward the executive director's salary. I mean, why isn't $6 just the entire salary for the executive director?

Dec 09 2006, 11:09 PM
Chuck on this very Bord Brian told us that he and Lorrie made a little over $90,000 a year together. I honestly can't remember the exact amount, cause once he told us I didn't care.

That's definitely true, too, AND seems reasonable. As for knowing why people get banned from tournament play yes I really want to know that. I really would like to know the names and their offenses of people who have been banned from tournament play. One time Brian, in exasperation at my continued tirades about the non-disclosure of PDGA penalties spelled it out, sort of. He listed which PDGA rule each banned member in question had violated. It wasn't an exact play by play, but it was a small disclosure.

Stepford Steve has now (probably wisely) refused to answer all my questions, accusations, and straight-up allegations about the last BoD teleconference. I still love him.

I badgered him and badgered him and finally he said, okay, I'll tell you one thing, and it was earth-shattering. Steve said that Stork said since the PDGA is totally above board in all its actions it should reveal what it does to everyone. Those weren't the exact words, but the gist.

Okay: Truce from The Pirate to new board members. Nothing negative from me until January 1, 2007. Not even gonna be here.

Personally i think Lorrie should make the most out of the 4 -- but probably she does not...

as for disclosing reasons for player suspensions -- doesn't the NFL and NBA do that? otherwise people just guess and gossip -- right?

if someone takes the ED position -- how much job security does it entail? i take it you would need to move to Georgia so how many years would the position last? until you resign or are fired?

Marketing (J. Duesler)
Has learned the PDGA needs to tell its story and identify deliverables
He outlined what the PDGA can offer a corporate sponsor:
- National Tour with 11 events nationwide
- Strong demographics
How do we market this?
- Communities
- Communications
- Corporations

This is my favorite part of this whole thread. Is the position of 'Marketing Genius' an elected position or can I submit a resume?

not sure where you found that quote or why you attributed it to me? it's also not clear what your point is ... and who (whom) does the pronoun "he" refer to in the above quote you replied to?

It's from the minutes linked on page 3 of this thread. I just hit reply on one of your posts cause I'm lazy and it was easy - wasn't attributing anything to you.

now it makes more sense (to me) -- you were quoting from page 4 of the PDGA BoD Meeting minutes that are published here (http://www.pdga.com/documents/boardminutes/2006-03-01BODMeetingMinutesApproved.pdf)

MTL

This truly will be it.

I have made my point. Thanks to BRAD for being oh so smart and not pciking up on me setting him up for him admitting how he has broken the message board rules. Disc Golf improved once again.

Thanks to him!

I thought you were done, again.
