This post I hope will cover exactley what it says.Everyone knows BG #2 is in the works. We've done our share. It's now in the hands of the County Park Board.(Seems they want to add a couple things to the overall bid)We also have the green light on Almas' improvments.Sponsers for every hole are needed.(That's 27 in all)Willie ,You've got your work cut out for ya! But it can be done. And all by the 2nd Annual Alma Greens. That's June Willie.Alma for those of you who don't know will be going to 27.9 short down below for beginners.18 up top for all.The 18 up top will be Brand New Baskets.Disc Catcher Pros.Nine of the Sports have been sold already.(Waiting on that deposit still Ash)Russellville contacted me the other day. They are wanting to install a 27 holer.I sent some info and told the gentleman that we of WAFDA would love to help if needed.Sent a CD of pictures from Ben Geren. He's gonna love that.If we could.Let's see how many possable courses are coming to our area.Put your info on here. Are we sitting on any other course proposals? If so,Where?

I was going to give it to you at the Canyon, along with the $900.00 in old FDGC club money I turned over to Bailey.
This is my first day at work this week- no internet at home-so I'll find Joe's address and mail it this week.
OK?

pitch and myself went out to bg and did a bit of clean up. pulled down most of the vines on hole four. cut down (yes fayeteville cut down) the broken limb by the basket on hole three. the dead fallen tree behind tee-off 8 still needs to be moved away but we got most of it taken care of. the rest of it was to heavy to mess with. theres a few other things that we did we just want to see if anybody can find them. ;)

I have no say in that matter.
I have suggested to Pitch that the money, if deposited into WAFDA's account, should be earmarked for improvements, or use, at Northshore- and any other future Fayetteville courses.
I'm sure you guys will make the right decision. :)

Went to Alma yesterday.Marked off 4 new holes.(In da woods)Your gonna love this.I also marked off the alternate positions for those in the woods. We'll be putting a few back in the open areas where the old holes used to be.(Up the spillway etc)Now hole #8 will be #1. #18 will still be the same.I just got off the phone with Mayor Ballentine.Seems i'll be running that chainsaw tomorrow. He's giving me a few workers to help out.The baskets we have now will be put in the new layout. When we get the NEW baskets then we'll switch em out.I just want everyone to get on the new layout ASAP.The course will be finished off with tee signs like BG and Concrete.(This will be the layout of layouts)Alma is gettin tougher boys and girls.I'll make sure the new wooded shot's have a little wider alley. They will be longer.SO! Half will be in the open,Half woods. But remember some of the open will still be on that darn cliff. Those will never be changed.Too sweet.See Ya!!! /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Tree Shark and I went to Alma late this evening just in time to throw the alleys of the 4 new holes. John parked the first two with his Shark, but he really lived up to his name on the fourth one, hitting the huge mando Oak and then a cedar right after that. I loved all the new layout, perfect for my old Classic Roc. I especially liked the last one with the branch at the back of pin location 1. Very good job Tom. Any chance we were the first to throw those alleys? (Yeah right!)
Only question, when you leave that one by the branch do you walk across the new parking lot to go on to (now) #14? We weren't sure where you came from or went next.

3902
Mar 09 2006, 12:01 PM
Looks like Willie shot em first.YES you do walk back across the parking lot to the next tee.WILLIE!!! Now we need you and those boys to start helping in the dragging off of all those limbs. It will be super nice in there when all that is done.Pick up trash too.The old Deer Stand is staying. And we'll be building a little bridge after the last hole in there.I'll use cedar poles to lay over the creek.ALL of those holes have alternates already.I'll tweek the exact pin positions as I go.The Mayor told me today he'll have the baskets up there by next week.I'm gonna remove a few trees on the other wooded shots as well.SO CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!!!Throw all the stuff down by the lakes bank. It'll make good cover for the fish when the lake gets back up.This CLEANING request if for everyone by the way.If your down there spend a little time and help out.A little every day will make it happen.ALMA will be a smokin course after all this.It already was.Now even more.By the way.My FREAKIN arms are sore from that chainsaw.I busted my tail yesterday.YOUR TURN!!! :D

Hey I'm with you Tom!! We'll be out there next tuesday and work on it until we just have enough time to eat and get to Joey's for the meeting.
I can't believe you were too tired to throw those new lanes!!!
They are going to be really sweet. I like how you laid most out with one pin leftie and one rightie. That will keep it fair for all involved, if you hate it this round you'll love it next. Good Job!
I'll see what we can get done. Is the OK from the mayor to throw the limbs by the water? Don't want any problems with the city.

3902
Mar 13 2006, 11:39 AM
As I mentioned to Willie on the phone.Anybody who helps in the brush removal at Alma.It is ok to throw the brush into the lake area. The water will come back up and the brush will make good cover for the fish.Looks like we may see our lake water level comin back up.Good rains.See you guys soon.Oh yeah.Leave the big cuts of cedar.I'll use them for bridges etc.Might make some cedar benches too.

Many thanks to the gang from the Tulsa Disc Sports Association for their donation of locking sleeves that will enable Northshore to have secure baskets, and will greatly enhance the efforts toward installing alternate pin placements at "The Lake".
Special thanks to Kelly "keldog" Watson for his efforts to foster the relationship between the disc golfers in these two "sister cities". Kelly has donated a great deal of his time, money, and sweat over the years- and especially over the past several weeks. I appreciate your efforts.
Thanks again TDSA! :)

A friend of mine just purchased 40 acres of land in Deleware County, Oklahoma, and he has asked me to help him install what will eventually be an 18 hole course.
The property is heavily wooded, and is bordered by a creek that is a tributary to nearby Grand Lake. A bluff line that ranges in height from 10 to 20 feet runs along his side of the creek. The property across the creek is owned by friends of his who are going to allow him access to additional acreage near the creek.
I'm going over to check it out Sunday. :)

Will this new course be private? pay to play? The EOFDA thing really is quite a question, We've been approached (WAFDA) to help with Russellville's potential new course and we're still forming basic club by-laws and the website (will have something up within 24-48 hrs. per our web master!).:cool:
So much to do....so much more that we can/could/should do...But installing courses is definitely promoting the growth of disc golf. So should map line boundaries define where WAFDA's efforts are utilized? I personally feel that they should'nt, should be a common sense issue. It will come down to a club vote probably, no matter what WAFDA decides I'm sure that there will be alot of WAFDA members wanting to help whereever help is needed. What about Innova's True Growth program? Roland is closer to Ft. Smith than Alma. Details of the program can be found at http://www.2006amworlds.org/

Private, but he probably wouldn't be opposed to an informal tournament, or two, each year.

Has anyone bought the other 9 Alma baskets yet?
If not- SOLD!!!! :D

Keep us informed as fas as Russellville. Is it that park along the lake/river? It's name has a patriotic connotation if I remember correctly. I was there one time and heard several loud explosions. I think it was a re-enactment of something.

o.k. here is the situation with the baskets and the ability to move placements out at bg. i have metal caps to put over the pins that are not being used only thing is there just a little bit to big. if anyone can get their hands on a metal grinder and has time to either show me the proper way to use it or complete the task themselves that would be very helpful. every time it rains the uncapped pins fill up with the lovely mulch that andy (worm) put around the pins. i have an auger that i can use to get the mulch out but when 75% of the pins fill up its a pain in the #@#[email protected] to get the mulch out. i am fixing to head out to bg to work on the pins if anyone is around and has free time to come out and help it would be greatly appreciated. it is 430 on sunday i should be there until dark or until the park closes.

all right i have moved baskets 1-5 and 13-18. i did not hold up any golfers playing their rounds so that was good thing. although there was one golfer that i wished i could of been in the middle of carrying a basket to the alt pin. round dusk a speed golfer runs by on hole 12. it was dark so i didn't get a real close look but i did notice a small dog and a kid that looked like carrot-top.  ;)

should be able to get out to the park in the next couple days to get the rest of the baskets moved.

I got a chance to stop by Alma on the way home yesterday for about 45 minutes (worked it out with the sitter). I raked out a walkway on the first two new holes and lined the edges (mostly) of the fairways with logs. I went on to play the newest three holes (Tom we now have a love/hate relationship). I threw too high on the lake shot and ended up skipping in (took a 4), Tried to thumb the wooded shot and got 10 feet (took a 4), Got the dogleg beautiful then smacked two trees on upshots (took a 5)! Beautiful but CHALLENGING holes!!

It's not a fake rake it is a leaf rake, the fake rake is what I use when it is too hot outside and the shade feels so good!! :)

which areas do you want the huge rock piles. i'm already working on 11. i can start piling up for the hole 8 tee area.
with the abundance of larger rocks by the water and the ones spread around in the woods i don't think running out of rocks is going to be an issue. :) just be careful fliping the rocks i have seen and killed snakes out there. i left a rake and a shovel twenty feet up the fairway on the left side behind some trees if anyone wants to use them. just be sure that they get returned to the same area. ;) i know where you want the cedar logs stacked at. next time that i should be out at the park is either sun after work or tues during the day.

SNAKES!!! YES!!! EVERYBODY be aware that this wilderness for sure,"NEVER" flip a stone by hand the first time.It is that time of year.By removing these rocks and clearing the brush we'll surely eliminate alot of those lil hazards. They'll be easier to spot as well while we're in play. We should be able to drive most of them away. That area will be sprayed for ticks also. This needs to be turned into a park like area.Manicuring to the max will provide a safe place for us all.KILL EVERY ONE OF THEM YOU SEE.Let's take advantage of this cooler weather to get it done.I myself will have bug spray on me and a snake bite kit available. Not a bad idea for a few of us to have these. They're very small and easy to carry. So BE CAREFUL you guys. We'll get it done,Safely.Just pile the rocks off to the sides of the fairways.Lots of small piles will be easy to manage.Don't break your backs tryin to carry them all to one area. We'll get a four wheeler or tractor with a small trailer to move them into place.I haven't yet decided where to build the cabin. :eek:Did I say cabin?Well something like that.I want shelter of some type back in there. You will be a mile away from your car if any bad weather hits.SO! Shelter will be built.I just thought a cabin would look cool in there. My plans as a few already know will turn Alma into a one of a kind experience.JUST WAIT /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Today I got the OK to order ALL 18 new baskets. The sleeves will be here next week. We'll put them in and stab the baskets when they get here.Should be the first week of May.Keep cleaning, Keep draggin brush,This new layout should be super by the tourney. We may or may not have the concrete by then.I'll keep trying to get it done.Sponsers need to be committed.CHECKS WRITTEN.If we get the majority committed I can probably get the Mayor to step up on the tees.It can be done folks.Push Push Push. It's crunch time.We need to go ahead and put the lumber together to form the pads.We need to go ahead and level out the tee areas.Remember,The pads will be flush with the ground. So a pick and shovel will dig the correct pouring areas.I'm looking for help on post hole diggers.I've got a pair.We can each do a couple here and there. We should find an area to hide our tools. That way we all know where to go to get them.I'm open for suggestions.Hole 1 2 & 3 will also be redesigned.#1 will be a mando to the right of the telephone pole,The pin will be shoved towards the #2 basket.Big rightie hyser.#2 will be shoved back about 60 ft.On the hill towards the walk to #3 tee.Very long,Uphill putt. #3 will be shortened,Near the edge of the water.(Sorry,Lakes gonna love this one)The alternate will be close to where it is now,Just UP on the ledge. :eek:Should measure about 525.The reason for this move is the water always lying in the fairway. All three holes will be tougher. With plenty of room for alternates.Alternates could be in by the tourney also if we get lucky.I'm feelin lucky,Anybody else?Let's do it.See Ya!

I cleared some rocks out of the fairway on hole #6 this morning. The stacks are on the edge.Leave them in piles.I want to eventually get them all to one location.Don't know where yet.We need to do this on all the holes. Some of the fairways will be our avenues to get work vehicles down in there.ie four wheelers, small riding mowers etc.If done correctly the fairways will produce grass. It would look nice to have some green fairways in there.(Seen hole #12 at BG?) It's doing that very thing.Couldn't find my Roc.I'd love to find that disc.Anyway.Maybe we could get a bunch of us out there at the same time.On the little projects i'd like to have volunteers to complete eash task. One group make this,One that. The ideas are coming to me day in and day out.I need input guys and gals.Who's in?

ok i checked out the basket. its not as bad as i thought it was. the lock needs to be replaced, the bottom pole needs to be bent back and the locking points need to be bent back. the basket is in the maintenance area bobby faulkner knows about the situation. should have everything back to normal sometime on monday. there is a metal pole where the basket should be so we can at least play the hole until the basket gets fixed.

A little curious about the Alma course. I went out there Saturday to play a round but could only find baskets 8 - 18. Could not find 1 - 7 anywhere. Are they down right now for the new placement or did I not look in the correct spot. Although the few changes I did see to the course were nice. Shot an even par on the baskets I did see. :) Keep up the good work and let me know if their is anything I can do to help. More then happy to come down for a work day as long as I get to play some golf when I'm done. Oh by the way I think I escaped without getting any poision ivy. Cleared more rocks on #7 yesterday.BIG ONES TOO.Gonna make for some nice building soon. It's almost clear enough to drive a truck down into there.(4x4)I don't think we'll ever get them passed the lake side shots.Oh well,It's close enough to get some building materials close to them all.I guess a mule or 4 wheeler could squeeze into those other areas.I'm gonna spray some diesel all over in there.Poison Ivy and such.If anyone has a sprayer and can do the same.Get it done.Stuff doesn't bother me.But some can just look it's way and get hammered. It's gettin there.Lookin good.Still need to drag more brush out.Off To Work!!!

our problem with the alt. pins filling up with mulch etc. etc. is fixing to be solved also. bobby faulkner and his maintenance crew purchased 18 more poles that can be put into the empty sleeves. the top has been marked with bright yellow so the mowers will be able to see the alt. pin placements and not mow them over. don't know when these will be ready but they are in the works. two cheers for the ben geren maintenance crew. :D:D

I have been to Alma for short times 15-30 minutes a few different times but have had no real time to put into it. My world has went to hell in a handbasket. The baby will probably be hospitalized for his infections Friday or Monday, and he woke up this morning coughing his head off so he is having a rough time. Also I will not have a job at Alma next year, because they reopened my position, it was only for one year, and hired someone with more political pull (mom's a teacher, family owns a huge furniture store, etc....)

Anyway, this is not a sob story for sympathy, just wanted you all to know why I (ALMAWillie) have not been putting a lot of time into the ALMA course lately. I'm going to try really hard to be at the meeting tonight, depends on how the family is feeling.

OK I think i'm FINALLY getting over this crud.I'm taking enough antibiotics to croak a horse. Also seems all the stress of the last year has caught up to me(Ulsers actin up)I'll not broadcast all the details but I will say between my 8 year old son being Hidden from me for almost a year,My wife being Assaulted by an Ex,approx 5 arrests,(Two being of mine,Charges dropped)An Attorney who's just been fired because she's caused more damage than anything.I guess you can see why the ulsers have been acting up.My only escape other than the Loving Arms of my wife and children is the work i've been doing on the courses, tourneys etc.Imagine what could be done without this BS goin on around me.My focus now is on Better Health,Finishing what I started (ALMA!!!) And tryin a little harder to relax and enjoy the view.I really need the help of you all to finish Alma.I think what we've done is going to make it one of the most unique courses anywhere. After that we can relax.( Until of course BG #2 comes into play.)Sleeves should be in Alma by now.Let's get it done.

I got out and had a chance to play Clarsville today. For a write up on the course check WAFDA.org in the next few days as I posted there today.
Overall it is a really good course. Nice park with all challenges (woods, water, etc...) Holes range from 220 to 458' all on level ground.
I shot a +2 but easily could have been -5 (shanked 7 putts from within 20'). I would recomend it for all players. There is enough easy and hard to suit everyone.

It is located on Meadow Place in Clarksville. Take exit 58 off I40, go North (right if coming from Alma) on HWY103 for about a mile to Main Street (hwy 64) Go right on 64 3 roads down on the right (first road after Greenbrier Creek) is Meadow Place, right on it to the park. If you park in the little gravel pull-off before the first baseball field #18 basket is on your right and #1 tee is on the left of the road. Tees are marked with #'s and distances.

Late Breaking News - I just lucked into this piece of info

The City of Fort Smith will be having a Re-Dedication ceremony of Tilles Park tonight, Monday 8-7-06. 7p.m.

What brings this about is that a local scout named Todd Spain (he might have had additional help - sorry if I'm not giving credit to all, once I know fer sure I'll re-post that info)
Refurbished all the Tee-Signs to the disc golf course as well as painting and other beautifications to other park equipment.

This was originally scheduled for last Fri. but got moved to today because of rain.

I know its last minute but any disc golfers that can make it out to this would be nice!! Let's show our support and play some disc golf so all these city officials and others can see whats happening with our beloved sport!! I'll be hooking up with Roger around 6p.m. at Tilles

Any questions or comments - post em'
If you need to call me 522-9036

They'll be there when we need them. What do you think about moving those picnic benches to certain holes? We can use folding tables for the tourney.Easy up's as well.Take those three and say go to #6,#12 & #17 maybe? We can also ask Bobby if anymore are available. Those would be good places to kick back.Besides,Anybody hangin around #1 or #10 are usually kickin it by the car or leavin etc. They really don't get alot of use (All three )right there.Use your imagination.

Hey guys,
Long time no talk to. I have been trying to get back in the swing of things, but betwen all the deer falling around my house, the trips my family plans and the weather it has been a slow process. I did get to go to Alma Sunday and play the newest wooded holes. I was really surprised at how high the water had been and still was. It was up to the rocks on hole #11 (overlooking lake with picnic table) and it had been high enough to float the picnic table in the middle of 11 fairway! And it had left trash and debri all over the walking trail and up to the within 10 feet of #10 basket (Extreme Dogleg Left).

I almost forgot,

Anyway have any good contacts in Farmington? (Mayor, City Council, etc...)
I was out at the city park yesterday for the first time and my mind just screamed 9 hole course!! I figured out a really nice layout for a 9 hole there in one walk through. It wouldn't be a champ caliber but it would be fun (nice little creek for almost constant OB).

Anyway, I have a message into the Parks dept. about how a person could go about proposing a course there. If anyone has any connections I would appreciate the info or help.

Hey!! Who gave the city the right to clean up our disc golf course??? In a bad way!
I went driving by Alma today (after taking my little boy to the emergency room due to Grandma panicing and thinking he had pneumaonia ) trying to see someone playing DG. When I pulled into the upper parking lot I noticed a new cedar rail fence going down towards the new parking lot. To my dismay I realized all of those cedar trees came from the area around holes 4, 13, and 14!! Hole 13 is now completely changed, no more tunnel shot, it is completely clear to the hole. Definetely now an ace run hole!
I could tell 14 was way different also and I am assuming it also opened up #4 maybe #5! They did a complete wipeout of cedars on that hillside!
I don't know for sure what it is going to do to the play of these holes. I'll try and check it out closer this week. We may have to do a little redesign. I'll keep you posted.

That tunnel forced my perfect line, I've aced it twice. I played it a couple of weeks ago and hit basket on 2 giggles, without my forced line I'll probably never hit it again

I checked over the chains (as best as I could remeber) and every basket I came to had rust on it somewhere on the chains. I would say I only forgot to check 5 or 6. Chances are they are the same.
The course doesn't play much differnet now. There is a new line opened up for holes 5, 13, and 14 but in order for them to payoff there are still risks. Mostly the new routes are big hyzers for a rightie that bring OB into factor as a big risk. So it is still a good play.

Played Alma Saturday. It needs a lot of work. Almost all of the chains are rusted, and they have butchered three or four holes. There was also a lot of debris washed way up on the course. It was like 4 degrees and snowing, so my opinion may have been affected by the miserable weather. Anyway, more than one workday is gonna be needed bf the Greens. If I can I will come down and help. Lemme know when.

We're aware of the chains, Innova's replacing them, they said that they had some "bad runs" with the chain, I heard Hot Springs' baskets were doing the same thing. The washed up debris and all of the woods being cleared on some of those holes is gonna take some work and maybe a lil re-design, that course has a lot of potential and we hope to realize that potential before the Alma Greens, thanks for the offer of help, I'm sure that the call will go out when we get a lil better weather

I have thought about getting away from the 54.Why the heck not.
I'd like to see something really unique about this course. There's alot of land along the water,Alot of wooded land at that.
Something to make this a little diffrent.
There is a small island like area.I can see a little bridge getting you to the island(Maybe 20 ft long )
This is a pretty special location,Surrounded basically by water. And it's controlled so no flooding issues.
Maybe even a ridiculous dog leg or two as well.I havn't seen one quite the way we had a couple in Cali.Like a 90 degree dogleg then a double mando between a couple trees,YEAH!!!
It;ll get ya fer sure,Just wait. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

OK friends,
Russellville AR is lookin like this (Picture it if you can)
The land is surrounded by water,Little coves and fingers dipping in and out of the land,You park your car and cross a 50 ft walking bridge to get to the course.Nice!
The front 9 takes you into the woods,
#1,Big Lefty Hyzer 300 ft
#2 Shoots you into the woods,Basket sits 30 ft atop a hill Miss a putt you may go down in 3 directions (Bummer)150 ft
#3 Tunnell ,Water along the right side(Northshore)160 ft
#4 Longer tunnell slight dogleg left 350 ft(Can't see the pin)
#5 elevated tee down into the woods(Slight dogleg left again,Long Alma #6)300 ft
#6 LONG wooded shot (Blackhawk)Can't see the pin 450 ft
#7 Another elevated tee into the woods 350 ft
#8 LONG more dang wood to smack 450 ft
#9 Uphill takes you out WHEW!!! 300 ft
#10 May be 500 ft(Monster pump open ,Pin hid by trees)
#11 Another open pump,Pin sits downhill near water 450 ft
#12 Open fairway,Pin atop a small hill.300 ft
#13 Open to the left,Trees and brush along the right(Ben Geren #5) 300 ft
#14 Tee off the top of a small island surrounded by water(Too freakin cool) 300 ft
#15(This COULD kill ya)Short 175 ft.Water right and left if overshot.LONG PIN,A finger 40 ft wide and 100 ft long surrounded by water.KILLER!
#16,Slightly uphill and a rightie hyzer takes you over water(Reverse Almas # 7) 300 ft
#17 Fairway lined with trees right and left side, Funnels down with the land sloping down on the right side against the water. 400 ft.
#18 LONG dogleg to the right with the water along the right side.A crazy rightie powerhouse may pump a hyzer over the water(Nuts)
Safe play says just throw as hard as you can twice into the flat area.650 ft?
Now these distances are just a guess. When the land gets cleared some more it's gonna be beautiful.Dirt work will be done as well.
I can imagine this when it's done.Your gonna love it.
Russellville will be approx 5,500 ft to maybe 6,500 long.
Par will probably range 58 to 60 ish.
I'm anxious to show it to everyone.Soon my friends,Very soon.

I think it would be a cool idea if we could get together a lil one-day unsanctioned tournament or even just a getogether where everyone brought their portable baskets so we could test this layout. Maybe this could happen within the next month or so. What do you guys think?

How many holes are we talking about that aren't playable? 5?6? If that's the case, we could play the other 12 holes and come up with 5 or 6 cool safari holes. I just really want to see what this course has to offer plus i haven't gotten to play golf in about 3 weeks and i need to get out. So, i would really like to see this "getogether" happen. Pitch, do what you do and get this organized. It would be awesome

3902
Feb 14 2007, 10:55 PM
OK here's an idea.
Go to Jasper for saturdays event (Watch Pitch collect his cash)
Then sunday on the way home stop by Russellville.
I can't travel that distance much but this could be on the way home.
18 Safari Skins? Quarter a hole?(That's a total loss of $4.50 to you Evan)
We'll simply flag off the trees near the pin locations and tee from between a couple discs.
1 hour to walk it and flag everything off.
A couple hours of play.
Who wants to see Arkansas' new nightmare? :D
I forgot to mention,
If we decide to stop by "Anytime we do decide to" I can contact the man in charge and he'll gladly meet with us to hear some input.
This would be good for everyone.

Sponsorship money is there for Russellville.(For the baskets)
One meeting to go for the final OK on buying them.
Then they'll be looking for 18 sponsors for tee pads and signs.
There are alot of volunteers already with some sponsors lined up for this.
Russellville should be up and running by the end of spring early summer.
When the baskets get here i'll be going down to finish and fine tune the layout.
NEXT!!!
I want to go ahead and place the stakes in the ground at Ben Geren sat morning before the mini.
The new 9 layout should be in the hands of Seb County NOW!!!
All they are waiting for is us.Lets get it done.
NEXT!!!!!
The redesign for Alma is in the works.I've added 3 new holes.
#1 will begin at the old #13 area. There's a new pavillion there now and picnic benches.
The OLD #1 will no longer exist. No more up hill on the 1st shot.
When you get to the #18 basket (And this will now be # 4)
You will go up the hill to the left and pump one off towards the dam.
So not only are you throwing off the hill but you have the elevation of the bluff as well ,Get it ? BOOM!!!!!
The other 2 holes will follow the lakeside shot then take you to the Devils Fork shot.
1 thru 9 will take you back to the pavillion.
10 thru 18 will do the same.
Alternates are already staked out as well.
This i'm sure will be the final and ultimate Alma course.
Badda Bing !!!!!

3902
Mar 16 2007, 08:40 AM
The beginner and NEW 9 are staked out at Ben Geren.
You can EASILY follow the placements and play them. You will be shooting at the stakes for now.
It's so easy a nine under can be done (Ask me how I know this :D)
The area is set up for 9 alternate pin placements as well. These won't be so easy and will make for an awesome 27 big boy layout.
I dig the land we've got these new pins in.If we can get it done sometime in the future i'd like to see ANOTHER 9 added to make for TWO 18 hole courses.
One step at a time,
If you've played BG and can remember what 6 thru 9 looks like,This is the type of terrain i'm speaking of.
Anyway,Go play the new 9 layout.I'm sure we'll see alot of ace runs on it.

John and I went out to Alma yesterday to do some cleanup. We saw Evan, Mat Spain and Roger Knight out there also, as they were putting some chains on a basket.
We raked off the pathways to 8, 9 and 11 to get all of the washed up junk out of them. We alo cut the trees off of the path and threw the big sticks over into the water or out of the way.
Our best accomplishment though was the clearing of the two new holes back past #8. We did not get them completely cleared, I am sure as they are REALLY tight right now, but they are shootable with a controlled run (think Devil's Fork).
We were not sure of what all trees should or could be cut so I am sure it will be a bit more open once Tom looks it over. As keeping with the Devil's Fork, they are shots that can be easy deuces, or they can shoot you to a 5 with a bad throw.
As far as the new shot for hole #1 (where it is now) I'm sorry Tom but we couldn't find the line. As far as I can tell you will not be able to see #1 basket from up there. I did throw a Tomahawk to just over the hill towards the parking lot, and a spike hyzer to the bottom edge of the cliff, which were both easy three's but I just don't see that being a feasible line especially having to shoot over the #18 fairway. Maybe we missed something, but we didn't get that cleared out.

If you go to Alma looked past #8 for the two new hole layout, and pay attention to the yellow flags somewhere close to each hole, as there are going to be some butt-kicking alternates put in place soon.
Alma is improving!!

Hello All - I arrived at work a little early today ( around 9a.) to find a Northwest Arkansas paper on my desk that had an article on 1B about a new disc golf course in Springdale. Is it really going to happen. I know Kelly has been talking about having his eye on that land for some time.

Also, the article mentioned that Siloam Springs has a nine hole course somewhere, is that true? That would be fairly close to Gravette where I work. If so, where is it? It is not listed on the PDGA website.

I had no idea of a course in Siloam Springs either, apparently a church camp has one, have no idea if it would be open to the public, I barely found a phone number to the camp's business office...479-524-8058, hopefully if you call them they could answer any questions, as for Springdale, NWADGC is heading that one up, their forum would probably be more likely to have info or be able to answer questions. It does appear that Russellville is going in, we had a Russelville local at our mini last Saturday, they are having some kind of meeting tonight in Russelville, but the location and finances do appear to be approved

Next will be the final layout (Like that's ever gonna happen,They ALWAYS change)
But we will get the layout completed ,Concrete and all the goods will be installed as well.
He asked me if we could get an event schedules there by July,
Hmmmmm?
Playoffs combined with a opening event ?
YUP!!!
HEY WILLIE!!!
The pin placement for the bluff shot will not be where the #1 pin is now.
We'll move it over about 70 feet to the right.
Where you can see it.
Get it?
You will be risking throwing over the edge towards the playground.
OUCH !!! :D
DO NOT clear the new holes behind the lakeside shot too much,
Keep it tight.

More bad news from Alma today. I went by and saw some guys out there with saws. Hoping for something good I stopped in and talked to them. Turns out they are going to clear the rest of that hillside, #'s 6, 7. 11, 12 area, the same as they did around 13 and 14. :( They said it would only be the cedars, but that is pretty much what it all is. Also they told me that the hole closest to the police firing range (guessing #10 Devil's Fork or #11) will have to be moved becuase the police are going to start shooting some new shell that scatters and we could possibly be in danger there. Which that means the two new holes, even farther along the side of the range, will be out of the question too. All that work Sunday for nothing.
AND they took Pitch's cedar log bridge out and replaced it with a metal one (no real big deal except) in preparation for the making of a walking trail through that area and all the way around the lake. Which could be good or bad, it may knock out the course (Gulley) or it may open up new areas to extend the course too.
Anyway, that is the news for now at Alma.

Found this little article this morning about Russelville. Good work guys.

Sponsorships sought for disc golf course

Commission votes to make park walk-in access only; skatpark designer chosen
By Brooke Chambers
Reporter
During a clean-up effort within the past month, the Russellville Recreation and Parks department cleared several large flat-bed trailers full of tires, old appliances, mattresses and household trash bags along with mounds of brush and limbs from the area at Pleasant View Park where the citys new Disc Golf Course will soon be constructed.
The cage-like baskets for the 18-hole course have been purchased, and tee locations were recently marked on site. The course is scheduled to be completed by July 1 in time for the parks first professional- amateur tournament on July 14, according to Parks Director Mack Hollis during Wednesdays commission meeting.
It really will be a professional-style course, Hollis said, noting the state coordinator for the Professional Disc Golfers Association, Tom Pitchford, designed the course and helped physically mark the tee locations.
Although Russellville Advertising and Promotion funds were used to purchase the 18 baskets at about $250 each, Hollis and the parks commissioners said they still needed the communitys help to fund the concrete tee pads and the signs at each tee.
The group devised a plan that would allow businesses or individuals to purchase a two-year tee sponsorship for $300. The sponsorships would fund the $2,500 estimated cost of asphalt and signage, with the majority of labor coming from volunteers or department employees, Hollis said. The sponsorships could also help replenish the departments A&P fund.
With a sponsorship, an individuals or business name would appear on the tee sign, which would also include the holes par, distance, etc.
A $100 annual fee would be imposed for continuing a sponsorship beyond the first two years to offset the cost of construction, hosting tournaments, etc.
To help sponsor the disc golf course, call the Hughes Center at 968-1272.
Walk-in access only
In an effort to protect park visitors and disc golf participants with a hopeful added bonus of curbing illegal dumping in the area commissioners voted during Wednesdays meeting to make the disc golf area of Pleasant View Park walk-in access only.
With vehicle traffic no longer allowed in the park area of Las Vegas Lane, commissioners hope to make the entire area safer and more user friendly.
I really think it will enhance the park, Hollis said of the decision.
The park area is now temporarily closed for construction, Hollis said, but will re-open with two entrances: one at a walking bridge near the parking lots of the Russellville Competition Ski Area, and one on the opposite end of the park.
The park can also still be used for any other type of outdoor recreation, according to commissioners. Fishing, picnicking, etc., will still be accessible, and Hollis said Phase II of the Disc Golf course includes multi-purpose trails for walking and biking.
Commissioner Robert Holeyfield suggested the department look into lighting for the entrances. Hollis said none existed at this time.
Skatepark designer chosen
Hollis also announced during Wednesdays meeting that a sub-committee for the Russellville Skatepark recently decided to hire Wally Hollyday Design and California Skateparks to design the concrete skatepark scheduled to open in August at Russellvilles Harmon Park off of West Main Street.
The design team was chosen from four proposals, and according to Skatepark Fund Coordinator Kechia Bentley, the designers had the best preliminary ideas for the park.
Several meetings between city officials, local skaters, and the design team are slated to take place within the next few months. Actual construction is expected to take about 10 weeks.

I like the fact that they are closing it off.Years of abuse have been erased by doing this.
I told Mack we golfers are pretty serious about keeping our turf kept up.
Anybody spotted doing anything like that around us and they might make the papers too.
They WILL place the walking trail around us but WILL keep it out of our way.

OK folks,
The word is that Alma is needin some attention.I'll call Mayor Balentine and get the mowing started. We need to focus on the wooded areas also.If you can take a trash bag in there and pick up as you play. The wooded areas shouldn't be all that bad.I was just in there a little while back and didn't see too much trash but it could always look better.
I also need help to place a few pins in concrete. If you can help in any way let me know.
Thanks all.

The new hole 14 is now in the ground and locked in. If you are standing at the devil's fork hole (old 9, new 15) you can see the basket just to your left.
This only leaves hole 13 to need a basket (play object golf) and hole 18 needs the top back on (pole hole.... DONG!).
The complete layout is seeable though. To get to 13 just walk along the lake another 50 to 60 feet and look for a clearing on your right with two stobs up for a tee box. 13 and 14 are short but very tight (read precise) shots.
The course is coming around.

That's OK, Willie and I both threw 20 disc each at the 2 new holes and strategically replaced the baskets where the majority of our throws went :)

yeah, the new placements cross a few other fairways and they are technically off of park property but we figure it'll work out ;)

May 24 2007, 05:11 PM
I still think, based on my 5 discs in the lake, that we should have just put the hole out there!! But Evans 10 in the police firing range overruled me. It adds a whole new element to the game, to putt amidst targets that look like men that have been all shot-up! :D

Evan, I will not be at Alma this weekend, due to an invite to go to the river for the 3 days. As you said though, there is plenty to do out there. Just getting all the limbs and leaves off the two new holes will be a pretty good days work. Of course this time, play the round first and then work. You have to get your priorities straight. :)
As soon as school is out I am going to hit it hard. If I can get the Ok and it isn't mowed by then, I am going to do it myself. I hate to see people turning away from it, due to it's appearance. It has so few consistent players as it is.

Thanks Evan for taking that basket,I know you two will have loads of fun.Especially when you carry it into the woods :p
DO NOT cut the big vines on the new hole #13.Those things are like spider webs to the shot. That basket should be right behind them making for little windows to putt thru.Oh yeah,The old fence line right there will be OB.Didn't know that one did ya :D
If anyone throws into that firing range they've lost a disc for good.We can't be climbing that one.Besides if you've thrown over there you've basicially thrown backwards and need to play another sport. It will be a rare occasion that they are using that area while we are playing golf.Very rare.I can hear it now,
CLICK CLICK PULL!!!
Willie I like the idea of you mowing out there but we need to get the Mayor on the ball with those guys.(Summer job maybe ?) ;)

evandmckee
May 25 2007, 01:38 PM
Yes, I realized that the fence is OB, definitely makes an interesting hole, doesn't have to be long to be difficult, kinda like 9 looking way simple till you consider the OB road behind it.

I think it's really cool how the front 9 needs alot of pure distance shots and the back 9 could be shot with a putter perhaps but the accuracy will create a lot of plus par penalties, I think the back 9 will win/lose the game

Hole 13 is planted, that is a tough shorty hole, can't be 200 feet, maybe shorter, but you need to think strategy with landing zones, so is the new 14

Spillway is ALL mowed, fairway mowing would've been cool but at least it's done (for now), hole 1 and on top along the cliff still needs mowed but it's definitely gettin' better :)

Good news and bad news:
Good news is I picked up a sprayer this weekend that mounts on the back of my four wheeler, so I can go in there and spray the weeds, treee sprouts, and Poison IVY that is growing in the fairways! If we kill it before removing it, it will have a more lasting effect on keeping the fairways clear. I will grab some Round-Up and hit it either this weekend, or one day next week. (School will be out, so I'll have more time!! :) )
Bad news is, I was talking with John, and most of the vines are gone from hole #13. I know that you wanted to keep them Tom, at least I do now, but while I was planting the basket John was clearing on that hole and those were one of the first things to go. Nothing can be done about it now, but I wanted you to know it was us that did it. Sorry!

I am glad to know some mowing has been done. That was by far the worst area. Hopefully they'll hit it again before tourney time.

May 29 2007, 07:06 PM
When I was there yesterday the BIG hanging type vine things were still there, pretty intense putting scenario, lot's of crazy lil alley's to putt thru, so I think the effect is still in place, I would bet that as more people play it that people might tear them down though.

Measured Alma this weekend for new tee signs, used a measuring wheel and a lil bit of common sense with elevation ect., not as precise as a laser but best we could do as of now, kinda surprising....

Hole 1 - 214 feet
Hole 2 - 399 feet
Hole 3 - 267 feet
Hole 4 - 525 feet
Hole 5 - 325 feet
Hole 6 - 385 feet
Hole 7 - 465 feet
Hole 8 - 193 feet
Hole 9 - 135 feet
Hole 10 - 175 feet
Hole 11 - 144 feet
Hole 12 - 218 feet
Hole 13 - 128 feet
Hole 14 - 135 feet
Hole 15 - 125 feet
Hole 16 - 219 feet
Hole 17 - 183 feet
Hole 18 - 215 feet

Front 9 - 2,908 feet
Back 9 - 1,542 feet

total - 4,450 feet

sounds short but you'll know you've played DG after a round at Alma ;)

Well the phone rang yesterday. The City of Ozark AR has been directed to me by the City of Clarksville.

Numbers have been crunched and delivered verbally.I'm expecting a call from the Mayor sometime today.
It sounds as if this park will only handle a 9 hole course but i'm thinkin there's more land there than the lady mentioined.Surely there's some untamed land sittin right next to the already manicured area of the park.I'll have to investigate. ;)

AlmaWillie
Dec 28 2007, 10:41 AM
Don't know if it is an improvement or not, but they are doing more clearing at Alma. They are taking out all cedars and dead stuff on holes 10, 11, and 17 (closest wooded holes to the pavilion). They say that is all they are doing, to open up the view of the lake, but I have heard that before. There are still enough trees left to make for fairly hard shots, but nothing like they were.

Speaking of wood, if anyone needs some I have some. I am 30 minutes from either Fort Smith or Fayetteville, with easy access. Cut your own free, or buy well seasoned oak from me for $35/rick. Please come help me clear this land and get ready for my course. I am going on my first real planning day today with marking tape in hand.

Okay, first four holes are layed out and trees and bushes cleared off, just need a good weedeating. Holes 5 - 9 are taped off and we have a good idea for holes 10 - 14. The last four will need to be brushhogged to really get a good plan as they are in really tall stuff. This is going to be a mainly wooded-shot course, with only two or three holes that you can really open up on. But it should still be fun. For monetary purposes, it will be an object golf course ( 55 gallon drums) for a while but I honestly have high hopes. I know NWA is busy on a new course, but if anyone wants to help plan out a course where anything is possible (as long as it is something you can do by hand, no heavy equipment now) let me know and I'll tell you when I'll be working. While it is on private property it will always be open to respecful disc golfers.

My friends, the addiction is returning. See you on the course soon! Maybe even my own course! :)

I can tell you Pitch's "new courses" will not be in Chester. AlmaWillie is doing his own thing there. I don't want no "lefty" holes on my land!!! :D I do have 5 holes now with playable fairways and targets. One is an Instep basket, the rest are 55 gallon drums. (good hollow THUMP from 100ft out!) I plan to get 6-9 at least cleared off this weekend and barrels in place. Half a course at least throwable. Still will need some cleaning of downed limbs, but the fairways will be open. And yes, I am being fair to lefties and certain two-finger players!

Cool, I used to throw at spots on trees those 55 gal drums would be a fatter target than what I used in the 70s

AlmaWillie
Jan 25 2008, 02:50 PM
They actually make a pretty good target. They are a little shorter than a basket, but the diameter is about right. And if you paint just the area between the top and the first ring down, you have a very respectable target area to hit. Makes for good practice anyway, and they are cheap, $5 instead of $70-80 for a cheap basket and $200-300 for a good one.
