Calling All Pro's to US Doubles
By Todd Harrell

The US Doubles Championship wants you! This may be your last chance to play it as a pro.
Next year it's all am's, so find your nearest 1000-rated player for a partner and come on down to the Carolinas Oct. 1st and 3rd for the finest disc golf this side of paradise.
C'mon, how can you resist playing Winthrop Gold all dressed up in yellow rope, the brand new Eastway Park, and the big and bad Nevin Park; all right before the 2010 USDGC?
You might be thinking, 'Well, I'd like to play, but I don't want to tire myself out before the big dance.' Phooey.

Yeah, you could sit this one out, but then you would miss out on taking home some of the $2,000 added cash and a chance to close out a chapter in US Doubles history with your name on top.
Tournament director Bill Jacobson is leading the charge to make this last pro US Doubles a memorable one and he wants the turnout as strong as possible.

With the USDGC now returning every other year and an amateur tournament likely to take its place in 2011, the Charlotte Disc Golf Club, which sponsors the tourney, decided to reflect that change next year by having an entirely am field.

CDGC Treasurer Sam Nicholson said the club has always offered the US Doubles as a primer for the USDGC and they wish to continue complimenting the Championship in whatever form it comes in.
This year, pro teams will begin with a captain's choice format at Nevin Park on Friday followed by an afternoon round of alternate shot at Eastway. Am's, who are also included, are scheduled to play captain's choice at Winthrop Gold on Friday then will resume the tournament Sunday with alternate shot at Nevin and then the final round at Eastway played under a 6 (captain's choice),6 (alternate shot), 6 (best shot) format.

Thinking about qualifying for the USDGC? Don't let that keep you from signing up. US Doubles officials have kept that in mind, too. The doubles tourney has a one day break for Saturday qualifying.

Pro's will conclude on Sunday with a 6 (best shot), 6 (captain's choice), and 6 (tough shot). The Pro's 'tough shot' segment at the formidable Winthrop Gold should be interesting. The format allows a team's lie to be selected by their opponent, and it's doubtful anyone will be very charitable with cash on the line. Jacobson said this year should be a bit trickier with 'tough shot' selected for Winthrop's last six holes instead of holes 7 through 12.

So who will take home the tourney's final pro trophy? Will it be defending champions Dave Feldberg/Avery Jenkins? Or will it be another tandem that has yet to register? Only time will tell.
Registration is now open on a first come - first served. Registration will remain open both divisions are filled.
