The 2019 PDGA Amateur Disc Golf World Championships kicked off on Tuesday morning with 702 competitors spread out across the greater York, PA area. For the division with the biggest field, Advanced, there's technically still no one that can be truly labeled as the leader, as the size of their division means that all players haven't completed rounds on the same courses. That will all change after today, and the annual Am Worlds "Great Shuffle" will finally put things into proper order.

Despite the true lack of a leader, there are still plenty of performances worth mentioning. After finishing in second place at the 2019 US Amateur Disc Golf Championships, Tennessee’s Noah Osborne is now ahead in the Advanced division (MA1) by four after his morning round at Quaker’s Challenge and his afternoon round at Klines Run left him 15 strokes under par. Osborne leads the MA1 A and B pool competitors, but his round this afternoon at Heritage Hills, where the MA1 C and D pools played yesterday, is what will determine whether or not he is still at the top of the leaderboard post-shuffle.

A similar situation exists in the Amateur Masters 40+ (MA40) division, where a field of 129 means they are split into the M and N pools. However, in their case, both pools completed the same two courses on day one, meaning Georgia’s Brian Yoe truly is leading by two over Massachusetts’s Roger Gagnon, with scores of 13-under par and 11-under par, respectively. Both pools will take on the Muddy Run course today, with the M pool teeing off in the morning and the N pool following in the afternoon.

There’s simply too much golf left to give any player in any division too much credit just yet. Day two is already underway and there are still three more full days of golf to go, some of which include multiple rounds.
