Disc Golf Italia
Disc Golf Italia (DGI) was founded in 2009 by Renita Cameron (DGI President and PDGA Country Representative) and Pablo Maggio (Vice President) in the renowned Tuscany region. Renita is a native American (Chicago) who has lived in Tuscany for more than 18 years and works as an independent Marketing, Advertising and Travel Consulting Professional. Pablo, an avid Frisbee player and course designer, has found Disc Golf to be his sport of choice and aims to become one of Italy's top players.

DGI promotes the sport in Italy both at the professional and recreational levels. It has a mission of expanding the recognition of disc golf and the number of disc golf courses throughout Italy. Prior to the formation of DGI, disc golf was virtually unknown in Italy. In addition to promoting new courses, DGI has started an academic program that brings this activity to the attention of educators, schools, communities, and the tourism industry so that its popularity will blossom in Italy as it has elsewhere. At present there are three courses affiliated with DGI; 2 (9 hole) courses in Tuscany and a 3 hole practice course in Perugia, Umbria. Additional courses are planned for Montecatini, Florence, Rome, and Milan, to open in the year 2012.

In only two years of existence DGI has obtained official recognition from AICS (Associazione Italiana Culture Sport) which is supported by the national Olympic committee C.O.N.I. as the national sports promotion body; in Italy it serves 9,000 recreational associations and has over 800,000 members. AICS has recognized disc golf as a new sector of the Association and has named Disc Golf Italia as official representatives responsible for nationwide promotions and educating the Italian public.

DGI is also the first European disc golf organization to organize a tournament on a traditional golf course. The Disc Golf Italia Open (DGIO) has quickly risen to officially become a PDGA EURO TOUR B-Tier event! This year the 3rd Disc Golf Italia Open returns to the splendid and enchanting greens of Montecatini Golf Club, on October 29-30. If you love disc golf, pasta and good wine why not come visit us?!
