ROCHESTER, NY – After months and months of exhausting travel and competition, we’ve arrived to the eighth and final tournament of the 2014 PDGA National Tour Elite Series. The NT Standings have now been updated to include all of the first seven events and everything comes down to the finale event here in Rochester, NY. The standings are as close as they’ve ever been in the past, with Paul McBeth #27523 only a handful of points in front of Ricky Wysocki #38008, and a 3-way battle for the lead in Open Women between Paige Pierce #29190, Val Jenkins #17495, and Catrina Allen #44184.

The courses being played by the pros this weekend, Widener Park aka Chili DGC and Parma DGC, are primed and ready for battle. I had the opportunity to talk to Paul McBeth, Will Schusterick #29064, and Paul Ulibarri about the courses, and all three of them shared similar opinions.

First and foremost, if there is one course that will make or break the tournament for the pros, it will be Parma. Parma is much tighter than Chili, with narrower fairways and more difficult lines off the tee. Mistakes at Parma will be more damaging than mistakes at Chili.

Chili’s layout is less dense with many more open fairways than Parma. There will be more wind to deal with at Chili, as well as a more prevalent presence of roped/flagged/painted out-of-bounds lines to navigate around. Assuming the good weather holds out, Chili is the much more picturesque course. That being said, good weather on the National Tour this year has been hit or miss, or really really miss. All we can do at this point is hope for the best, but expect the worst.

Round 1 starts tomorrow morning at 9:00am with the Open division playing Parma and all of the other pro divisions playing at Chili. After a quick lunch break, they’ll switch courses. Tomorrow is the only day where two rounds will be played, with tee times for a single round at Parma on Saturday and tee times for a single round once again at Chili on Sunday.
