Ron Paul this week....

I rise in reluctant opposition to H Res 560, which condemns the Iranian government for its recent actions during the unrest in that country. While I never condone violence, much less the violence that governments are only too willing to mete out to their own citizens, I am always very cautious about "condemning" the actions of governments overseas. As an elected member of the United States House of Representatives, I have always questioned our constitutional authority to sit in judgment of the actions of foreign governments of which we are not representatives. I have always hesitated when my colleagues rush to pronounce final judgment on events thousands of miles away about which we know very little. And we know very little beyond limited press reports about what is happening in Iran.

Of course I do not support attempts by foreign governments to suppress the democratic aspirations of their people, but when is the last time we condemned Saudi Arabia or Egypt or the many other countries where unlike in Iran there is no opportunity to exercise any substantial vote on political leadership? It seems our criticism is selective and applied when there are political points to be made. I have admired President Obama's cautious approach to the situation in Iran and I would have preferred that we in the House had acted similarly.

I adhere to the foreign policy of our Founders, who advised that we not interfere in the internal affairs of countries overseas. I believe that is the best policy for the United States, for our national security and for our prosperity. I urge my colleagues to reject this and all similar meddling resolutions.

The resolution passed 405-1. (http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/06/19/iran.us.congress/)

Wanna bet he used state funds to fly to Argentina? No wonder he didn't want to spend the bail out on helping people, he wanted to use it to fund flights...

I doubt he used tax payers money on his little fling.

You have no idea how frustrating the news was to me yesterday. That basically killed any future chance at any office. It is a good thing he had been saying this was his last term in public office.

I, among many others, had hoped he would run for President in 2010.

The trip this weekend was paid for totally out of his pocket.

A trip for the Commerce department back last year he did visit her, he stated today that he would reimburse the state for that trip, even though it was a legit trip.

Here's a reality check. There was some mention about what the "government does well"
which included the military, CIA, etc... I was in the USMC during this time.

Here we are: Socialism, Fascism... anyone, anyone??? Reagan was not a Libertarian, and saying he was is a mis-characterization, to say the least.

Mike I will not argue about Reagan, he talked and even said at the heart of a good Republican is a Libertarian, however he did not practice what he preached. The longer he was in office, the more the Neo-Con's took over. (Big Government, Progressive, Wilsonian Republicans)

Yawn! Lots of boredom today. Please don't equate Fascism with Socialism, you need to get a dictionary. In Fascism, the Government controls the business world for profit. There are also components of militaristic nationalism (can you say America's conservative movement), propaganda, (can you say Fox News) and the crushing of opposition (can you say elections in Florida, Ohio - voter registrations - voter intimidation and other conservative tactics). Seems to me that the conservatives in this country have more in common with Fascism than the Socialists.

In Socialism, a business isn't necessarily run by the state, it is run not for profit to the betterment of it's customers. When was the last time you called your for profit Insurance company with a claim and got good service? When was the last time you called Microsoft and got good service on a problem? We're very good at pointing out the problems of government, but very poor at pointing out the sheep dip that business passes out.

On the other hand, today, the number of Americans who say they have a high quality of life is below 40%. But if you go to one of them Socialist Countries in Northern Europe, the number who say they have a high quality of life is well over 70%.

If we look at South America, forced down the capitalist pathway over the past 30 years by the World Bank, quality of life, and income have plummeted over that period. So much so that with a rousing cheer, they've tossed the buggers out and gone to a Socialist model.

Only North Americans, specifically, those in the U.S., don't realize that they have bled money to the rich continually for the past 30 years while having a declining standard of living propped up by borrowing money.
