First PDGA Tour Event in Korea

Tuesday, May 8, 2012 - 10:32

The 1st Daegu Open Disc Golf Tournament was held at Daegu Environment Resource Park on March 25, 2012, hosted by the Daegu Disc Golf Association, a branch of the Korea PDGA. KPDGA-Daegu was formed by Mr. Byoung Woo Baek, the Secretary General of the Union of Daegu Government Officials.

The course is installed in the beautiful environment of the park and was enjoyed by 74 players in 7 divisions. The event showcased disc golf as a lifetime fitness sport to several government VIPs, volunteers, spectators, and residents of the park area. The tournament was organized by American player, Mr. James Pearson #49394, who has been living in Korea since last summer where he teaches chemistry to the children of US military personnel in Daegu. James was introduced to Mr. Baek by another American disc golfer, Mr. Tom Kunneke, who has been in Korea for 3 years.

The KPDGA-Daegu has hosted three four-week disc golf classes since December and in cooperation with the American players will continue the classes for the members of the Union of Daegu Government Officials and their families. KPDGA-Daegu will also continue to organize the tournament as a PDGA international event. Visit discgolfinkorea.com for more information about the growth of the sport in Korea.
