Huether Takes Lead at 2012 USADGC
Mark Huether from Charlotte, North Carolina repeated his four under par, 58 to take the lead here at the United States Amateur Disc Golf Chmapionship. He started the day one behind Mike Sale and tied with Alex Geisinger.Through the first five holes nothing had changed on the lead card.
Hole 6 would prove to be the difference for Huether. The 594 foot hole plays over a large valley on the drive to a small window to get to the landing area. Once there, it's a tight, straight 225' shot to the pin. Huether made it look effortless. He birdied while Geisinger and Sale took bogeys. He didn't give up the lead after that.
Geisinger recovered well and continued on to end up one behind and tied for 2nd with two other players. Mike Sale didn't falter the rest of the round, but only carded one more birdie. His 61 dropped him to the second card by one throw.
Nick Hanson out of Saint Paul, Minnesota shot a 57 to make his way to the final day lead card, but the hot round of the day was a 56. Ted Stoebling, from Roseville, Michigan put up the best round of the tournament so far. The 1029-rated -6 under vaulted Stoebling from the 5th card to the 1st card.
With such a tight race and much calmer wind predicted for tomorrow, the players have their work cut out for them. Tomorrow is going to be a low score kind of day. There are plenty of talented golfers within striking distance and they'll be playing to win. The leaders won't be able to let up until their last putt hits the chains. Keep track of all the action here at PDGA.com as we'll be updating the results as the cards roll in and at 1:00 we'll have live scoring and Twitter coverage for the lead card.
