Pressure Filled Finale
Pressure Filled Finale
How to Watch the DGPT Championships presented by Barbasol
There was no slowing down in 2022.
As the Disc Golf Pro Tour became the Official Pro Tour of the PDGA, the Elite Series rose to even greater heights (and will be even bigger) in 2022. Week-in and week-out, the action was intense and the finishes were often dramatic.
It all wraps up this week in Charlotte, North Carolina for the 2022 Disc Golf Pro Tour Championship Presented by Barbasol.
The top players in each field, as determined by the season-long DGPT points standings, will head to a new venue for the Tour Championship this season at Nevin Park in Charlotte.
Kristin Tattar and Ricky Wysocki claimed the top seeds this season thanks to their stellar play on the Elite Series and at PDGA Majors. The top 16 players in FPO and 32 players in MPO will compete beginning Thursday in the bracket-style finale. Every day, the top four scores advance until a champion is crowned and becomes the recipient of a record-breaking payout.
The story lines, as was the case from the start of 2022, are everywhere.
Can Tattar close out a dominant season that included her first PDGA World Championship? Could it be Catrina Allen carrying momentum over from the Throw Pink Women's Disc Golf Championship this past weekend? Or will it be Ohn Scoggins, the second-highest rated FPO Player in the field, closing her stellar season with a bang?
In MPO, Wysocki picked up four wins on the Elite Series and won the DGPT regular-season points race with his trademark consistency. Paul McBeth became a 6-time PDGA World Champion. Just four days ago, 17-year-old Gannon Buhr became the youngest player to win the USDGC. Simon Lizotte won four Elite Series events this year as well.
But this is a do-or-die, show-up-every-day event where Cinderella stories are ripe for the taking.
No matter how it shakes out, get ready for a pressure-filled finale to 2022.
Nevin Shows Its Teeth
Debuting this year at the DGPT Championship, action at Nevin Park kicked off Wednesday with two spots in each bracket up for grabs.
It also previewed that the host course this year has some serious teeth.
Jeremy Koling and Thomas Gilbert grabbed the two play-in spots in MPO, finishing plus-1 and plus-2, respectively, on the heavily-wood track as rain showers came and went in north Charlotte. In FPO, it was USWDGC champion Hailey King (-3) and Jessica Weese (+1) earning their spot in the Championship.
Nevin Park played host to the 2012 PDGA Pro World Championships and 2018 PDGA Amateur World Championships and got an upgrade heading into this week with six new teepads and several new pin locations, all adding up to a menacing and demanding track to close out the 2022 season.
They don't call it Nevin Nightmare for nothing.
