2024 European Open — Round 2 Recap
Kristin Tattar had put herself in a great position with a 9-under first round of the Professional Disc Golf Association Major European Open, four strokes clear of Eveliina Salonen. But it was the Finn who put on the best showing in Round 2, where she especially excelled from hole 7 to 13 picking up 5 birdies claiming the overall lead in the tournament.
However, on hole 17 Eveliina saw a birdie putt turn into a double bogey, giving up a stroke to Tattar, meaning the two of them were tied for first going into the last hole.
And as the two-time PDGA World Champion who came up with the only birdie on the card, she is still in the lead going into Round 3. But her comfortable lead is now reduced to a single stroke.
So while Eveliina Salonen might rue those missed putts on hole 17, she can still look back on a great round in the wet conditions today, and will be breathing down Tattar's neck, when Round 3 starts at The Beast across the lake in Nokia, some 20 km west.
In 3rd, Silva Saarinen did not play her best round of disc golf, but still managed to climb up onto the podium position with a plus-1 for the day.
And while scoring plus-5 for the round, Missy Gannon still holds on to a spot on the lead card sitting in fourth at one over par for the event.
While Tattar and Salonen has taken off, the race for the final place on the podium has gotten more interesting today, as Estonians Kaidi Allsalu and Keiti Tätte both shot 2-under today. That means that they are tied for fifth with plus-2 total alongside Henna Blomroos, who despite picking up 5 birdies had to settle for a plus-4.
Pesky Weather
Lingering lightning in the Tampere area plagued the MPO division on Friday, leading to multiple weather delays before an ultimate suspension of play.
Round 2 will resume at The Monster at the Tampere Disc Golf Course at 7 a.m. local time on Saturday. It'll be a quick turnaround as the division will shift, without a shuffle, to The Beast in Nokia on Saturday afternoon for Round 3.
