Winthrop Set to Test the Best Once Again
Winthrop Set to Test the Best Once Again
Action kicks off Wednesday on the Disc Golf Network
It takes every shot — hyzers, straight shots, turnovers, you name it — to navigate the Winthrop Arena.
But it doesn't just demand a complete repertoire, it demands precision.
"Winthrop, more than any other course, challenges you to stay in bounds, to throw accurate shots," 2020 USDGC Champion Chris Dickerson said. "All of those shots need to be in bounds."
It also adds an added amount of pressure as one the longest-running and prestigious stops on the disc golf tour as the final PDGA Major of the year.
Dickerson, as the reigning champion, didn't feel that pressure the day before the event starts.
"I know going into a tournament that you've won in the past, there are those expectations that you've got to play as well as you did before," he said. "But everyone is trying to win."
On Wednesday, the chance to enter an elite circle of winners begins for the 102 players in the field at the United States Disc Golf Championship and the 39 players in the Throw Pink Women's Disc Golf Championship in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Ricky Wysocki is looking for his first U.S. title after a handful of close calls. James Conrad has the opportunity to join even more elite company as a player to hold both the PDGA World Championship and the USDGC title in the same year. Paul McBeth has a numbers game going being a winner in 2015 and again three years later in 2018.
The 2021 USDGC / TPWDGC kicks off Wednesday.
