There's four rounds left of the 2022 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships and there's already no time to blink.

A marathon turned into a sprint on Tuesday as 286 of the top players in the world hit the courses in Emporia, Kansas to kick off the 40th edition of the PDGA World Championships and the action, as it's been throughout the 2022 season, was fast and furious.

International Showing

A strong international contingent of players represented well through the first 18 holes.

Estonia's Kristin Tattar, the highest-rated FPO player in the world and a favorite entering the week, got off to a blistering start on Tuesday and leads by two strokes over Finland's Henna Blomroos.

"It feels like home, I guess," Tattar said with a big smile. "I'm very happy for my fellow European competitors and I look forward to playing with them tomorrow and the rest of the week."

Finland's Eveliina Salonen is tied for fourth, four strokes back of Tattar. In the B Pool, Norway's Lykke Lorentzen has a one-stroke lead after her opening round at Emporia Country Club.

Not only does Tattar feel at home with her competitors in a way, she's also in a familiar spot as the leader. Tattar has been rock solid this season with three wins on the Elite Series, including the Dynamic Discs Open, and five more podium finishes.

"That was the plan," Tattar told Terry Miller of the Disc Golf Network when asked about her early position at Worlds.

Tattar birdied eight of the first 10 holes at the Supreme 18 at Jones Park and is in the top three in the major driving statistics, circle 1 in regulation (67%), fairway hits (90%) and strokes gained tee-to-green (6.50), according to UDisc.

Earlier in the day, Blomroos set an early pace with her 8-under round, which was jump-started by a birdie on the daunting, island hole start at Jones Park. She was one of just five players to open the round with a birdie, a group that included Tattar. Salonen, who will lead the chase card, was the only player in the field to go bogey-free.

In MPO, Väinö Mäkelä, of Finland, finds himself in a five-way contingent that call themselves co-leaders at Pro Worlds. Mäkelä was solid in every area on Tuesday to start his second career appearance at Pro Worlds.

Down the street at ECC, Lorentzen got off to a strong start with four birdies through the first seven holes and leads the B Pool as the only player under par a 1-under.

Tanner Blisters ECC

Tristan Tanner cleared the way and set the pace at Country Club on Tuesday.

Good luck to anyone trying to hit his mark.

Tanner went 8-under through the front nine and walked off the course with an incredible 13-under round, unofficially rated 1087. He had makes of 60 and 49 feet on the front nine and, after his lone bogey on the island 16th, capped off his stellar round with a circle's edge putt on 18 for his round of 53.

The B Pool heads to the Supreme 18 at Jones Park on Wednesday.

Eagle's Major Feeling

Eagle McMahon picked up right where he left off the last time that we saw him as he hoisting the European Open trophy.

In his first action since Finland, McMahon birdied six of the last seven holes, which included an incredible upshot on the tricky 16th. That followed what he said was his favorite shot of the day on 15, a midrange turnover into the touchy 15th green.

He finds himself in the five-way tie at the top of the A Pool and once again showed that, despite a lingering injury, the biggest stages are where he thrives.

"You can't win it on the first day, but you can shoot yourself out of it," McMahon said."

The Great Shuffle

Following Wednesday's rounds, the pools will be shuffled heading into rounds 3 and 4 before the cut to Championship Saturday.

We're off and running in Emporia.
