2023 Masters Worlds Confirmation Letter
2023 Masters Worlds Confirmation Letter
May 31, 2023
Dear Masters Worlds Competitor,
First off, big congratulations for qualifying for the worlds and then negotiating the registration process to get in. We welcome you to Flagstaff where at elevations of 7,000 feet plus, we plan to bring disc golf to new heights. On behalf of the Professional Disc Golf Association, Flagstaff Disc Golf Club, City of Flagstaff, and our sponsors—MVP Disc Sports, Innova Discs, Discraft, Lone Star Discs, Peace Outfitters, Kahtoola, Twin Arrows Casino Resort, Little America Hotel, and many others—we are honored to host you in beautiful northern Arizona. Flagstaff has served as host for the 2003 Pro Worlds and the 2005 Am Worlds and we are tickled pink to bring the worlds back to town.
Our local team has been hard at work preparing for this event. In collaboration with our host hotel, Little America, we are excited to showcase 2 new courses on their property. The Little America Long course is just that, a championship-level course that will play at about 9,000 feet in length. It runs the gamut of short, technical holes to long bomber holes and will truly test the skill levels of the players. The Little America Crew Course plays much shorter but offers tight, technical holes and some challenging elevation changes. It finishes with a 600’ par 4 offering a spectacular view of the San Francisco Peaks.
We have an exciting week scheduled for you. Briefly, here are some highlights.
- Doubles happens Saturday using both courses at Little America
- Check-in will be Sunday and Monday at Little America
- Field Events will occur at Little America on Sunday
- Player’s meeting Monday at Little America
- Player party/banquet Tuesday at Little America
- Flymart will be on Wednesday at Little America with some vendors selling through Saturday
- Singles rounds occur Tuesday-Friday
- Semi-finals and Finals will be Saturday, 15 May
- Local art fair on Saturday, 15 May
Up to date details on courses, schedules, lodging, spectators, and the like can be found here. We are constantly updating the website with new information so please be sure to check it periodically.
Flagstaff is surrounded by National Forests, National Parks, historic cultural sites, wonderful food and drink, and a vibrant art community. Indeed, if you’ve never experienced the wonders of the Grand Canyon, the red rocks of Sedona, or artifacts of our historical culture at Walnut Canyon, Wupakti, or Montezuma’s Castle, they need to be on your bucket list of things to check out. We are pleased to announce that we will have an art fair at Little America on Saturday during semi-finals and finals. It will include local artists offering a wide range of art representing the best northern Arizona has to offer. For more information on things to do while in town, check out Discover Flagstaff.
A couple small reminders. Please be sure to sign up for the player’s party/banquet. We’ll have live music, dancing, good food and beverage, so we hope to see you there! We have only a limited number of spots available, so get your tickets before they’re gone. You can snag your tickets here.
Spectator passes will be required at the Little America courses. Registered players and volunteers are not required to have a spectator pass. Caddies do not need a pass while caddying but will need a pass if they are just watching. You, family, or friends can purchase spectator passes here.
Our host hotel, Little America, is nearly full. We’ve worked with a number of local hotels to acquire room blocks and rooms are available throughout town. Regardless of where you stay in Flagstaff, you won’t be far from a course as all courses are within a 5-mile radius of downtown Flagstaff. More information and links to hotels can be found here.
We are very excited for the opportunity to host this event and to share the wonders and beauty of northern Arizona. We look forward to you coming and thank you for making Flagstaff your destination to play in the 2023 PDGA Masters Disc Golf World Championships!
Sincerely,
Bill Block
