Iron Hill already had a reputation as one of the most difficult courses on tour. So when it dropped from a par 72 to a par 69 this year, the casual observer might think that the track was easing up on the competitors.

ESTACADA, Ore. -- As she walked up to her final lie Sunday afternoon at the Beaver State Fling, Paige Pierce couldn’t help but think back to the putt that cost her the title at Milo McIver State Park just one year before. After all, her approach on the 509-foot, righthand bending closer at the West Course landed in the same spot as 2018.

ESTACADA, Ore. -- After taking a one-shot lead into the final round of the 2018 Beaver State Fling, Paige Pierce only needed a 10-foot putt on hole 18 at Milo McIver State Park’s West Course to clinch back-to-back titles in Oregon.
She missed that putt, then fell to Catrina Allen in a one-hole playoff.
Now heading into the 2019 Beaver State Fling with a seven-shot cushion after, Pierce has a chance to put the past even further in the rearview mirror.

ESTACADA, Ore. -- Sure, this is the third time this season Eagle McMahon has entered a PDGA National Tour event as the defending champion. But he’s yet to repeat at any of those tournaments, which could saddle the 21-year-old with an extra dose of pressure.

The jewel of the Pacific Northwest will be back in the spotlight this week, as Milo McIver State Park takes center stage during four rounds of the Beaver State Fling. A longtime PDGA National Tour staple, the Fling is beloved for its manicured fairways, sweeping greenery, and consistently tight scoring: There's been a playoff each of the last four years at the event, legendary showdowns that only cement this three-day tournament's standing as a crowd and competitor favorite.

ESTACADA, Ore. -- In 2015, the showdown featured Will Schusterick and Paul McBeth, with the latter emerging victorious after two extra holes at Milo McIver East.
In 2016 it was Catrina Allen and Paige Pierce’s turn, with Allen only needing one hole on the West course to oust her longtime rival.

Florida native Calvin Heimburg finished 41st in the 2018 PDGA National Tour points race, a byproduct of not hitting the road until late in the season and only playing in three of the circuit’s six tournaments.
