2023 PDGA Am Worlds

Things heated up in the chase for a PDGA World title on Friday at the 2023 PDGA Amateur and Junior Disc Golf World Championships.

And, yes, Mother Nature played a factor as storms forced a tournament-wide weather delay. At this point, the 800-plus player field is used to it and continues to battle through.

The smoke moved on, but the sky opened up Thursday at the 2023 PDGA Amateur and Junior Disc Golf World Championships.

But, as it has throughout the Mother Nature-driven week so far, the competition — all 800-plus resilient players — moved on in Peoria, Illinois.

Poor air quality from wildfires forced suspensions on Tuesday and a full cancellation of Wednesday's rounds. The Air Quality Index improved, but the weather's second punch included heavy lightning, wind and rain on Thursday, forcing even more suspensions.

Please see below for important updates to the event schedule for Friday and Saturday. These changes are designed to ensure competitors in both the Amateur and Junior divisions can play a revised schedule that most closely resembles the original event schedule.

Updated Junior Worlds course schedule

The MJ18 semifinal location is the only division affected by the newest schedule change. That round will now be played at Eureka Permanent

All other Junior divisions remain unchanged and the semifinal adjustment is the only change for MJ18.

After reviewing the most recent data regarding the air quality in the Peoria, Illinois area, the PDGA and tournament staff have made the difficult decision to suspend play on Wednesday for the day, resulting in changes to the schedule for the rest of the week.

This is a decision that did not come lightly, and one made with the safety of all competitors in mind.

Smoke from wildfires to the north rolled into the Peoria, Illinois area on Tuesday, raising the Air Quality Index into the 200s and thus enacting the PDGA Mid-Event Suspension & Cancellation Guidelines.

Updated Friday at 6 PM CST

In accordance with the PDGA Mid-Event Suspension & Cancellation Guidelines Policy, this is a message alerting you that the Air Quality Index in the Peoria, Area has risen about the 100 level, which indicates that the AQI is “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups.”
