Holyn Handley torched the woods of New London Tech to open the 2024 PDGA Professional Disc Golf Championships presented by Zuca.

With a pair of eagles — and just a single bogey on the heavily-wooded and demanding track — Handley opened Worlds with a scoring 10-under, 1034-rated round, good enough for a three-stroke lead.

And a true test awaits the 297-player field in the Lynchburg area for the 42nd running of Pro Worlds.

Full Information on 2024 Pro Worlds >>

The woods of New London Tech and the pristine and diverse terrain of Ivy Hill Golf Club will test the entire field over the course of five rounds beginning Wednesday, August 21. Active PDGA members can catch the first two round of action free on the Disc Golf Network and receive a deep discount to see what promises to be a dramatic finish.

Format

Round One:

Round one will be modified best throw. In modified best throw, teams choose the best throw on each shot; however, the same person’s tee shot cannot be used three holes in a row.

Round Two:

Round two will be modified alternate throw. On odd-numbered holes, male will tee. On even-numbered holes, female will tee. (The tournament director will decide the odd and even tee assignments.) After the tee shot, the other partner throws the second shot, and players alternate throughout the hole until it is completed.

Read about these two formats under B.05B and B.05F.

Putting Competition

There will be nine stations, each with a basket in which three putts of varying length and difficulty will be presented. The spots at each station will have putts worth 1, 2, and 3 points.

PDGA Major Events are the premier national and international competitions for disc golf each year, featuring the world’s best disc golfers competing for World and National Titles in multiple skill, age, and gender-based divisions. These PDGA marquee events offer any city or town the chance to host an international sporting event in their community, to draw interest and attention to the location, and to generate a significant economic impact for local businesses.

Hosting a PDGA Major is a challenging task. Interest was shown from several involved local organizing committees (LOC), meaning selecting these events was difficult, as so many excellent bid packages were submitted.
