With the ninth running of the Tim Selinske US Masters Championships beginning on Friday morning, we thought it best to give the disc golf world a quick refresher about who Tim Selinske was, how incredible of a person he was, how much he impacted disc golf, and how much of a loss the flying disc community felt as a whole when he passed. The following is a piece written by Dan "Stork" Roddick, PDGA #003, for the Fall 2009 issue of DiscGolfer Magazine. Stork used much of what is written below when he gave Tim's eulogy after his death in August 2009.
A 14-division field made up of 270+ players from three different countries has officially been cut down to those fortunate enough to have played well enough to finish in the top 40% after three rounds. Now, with only the final round remaining this morning here in Oak Grove Regional Park, the competitors will need to be on top of their games for a chance to become a 2016 Tim Selinske US Masters Champion.

Three PDGA Majors remain in the 2016 disc golf season and this weekend we are proud to celebrate one of the most significant names in the history of the sport here in Stockton, California, USA for the 2016 Tim Selinske US Masters Championships presented by Innova Champion Discs. We’ll get to the competition preview in a moment, but there’s something, or in this case, someone, more important that needs to be mentioned first, the late, great Tim Selinske #2026.
Carolinians don't mess around when it comes to disc golf. With a field of over 300 players competing in nine different divisions at the 2015 Tim Selinske US Masters Championships, Pro and Am, Carolinians dominated on their home turf. In the seven divisions that had more than one competitor, six of the winner came from either North Carolina or South Carolina. In the division where a non-Carolinian took home the title, Advanced Senior Grandmasters won by Michael Whipple of Utah, Carolinians still represented well, with Charlotte's own Jim Banbury finishing in a close 2nd.
Another beautiful day of disc golf in Charlotte is in the books meaning only one round remains for the 2015 Tim Selinske US Masters Championships. Tomorrow, the 300+ competitors that have made the trek to North Carolina for the one and only age-based PDGA-Major of the year have one last chance to move up before heading home.
It’d be more than fair to say that if Tim Selinske were still with us, he’d certainly be proud of his good friend Barry Schultz. The Masters division played both of their rounds today at Nevin Park to kick off the 2015 Tim Selinske US Masters Championships. Schultz came out of the gates with a great first round and then turned on the burners for Round 2, finishing with a lights-out 51 (-13) to take over as the overall leader.
Tomorrow is the start of one of the most important PDGA Majors of the season, the 2015 Tim Selinske US Masters Championships. Not only is it the defining tournament for disc golfers 40 years old and above (other than Am/Pro Worlds), it is also a living monument to one of disc golf’s most important pioneers, Tim Selinke.
The 2014 Tim Selinske US Masters Championships have finally come to an end after yesterday’s exciting finish at Mohawk Park in Tulsa, OK. Barry Schultz #6840 had the lead after the first round on Friday morning and would have to defend his lead all weekend with a target on his back. Out of the dozens of world class competitors at the event, only JohnE McCray #9852 would get close enough to potentially take the lead away.
As someone who’s walked with, tweeted about, and wrote articles about the lead cards at dozens of PDGA National Tour and Major events all over the country, it’s never been easy for me to answer a fairly simple question. It’s one that I’m asked at least once a week during the disc golf season. “Which players are the most fun to follow?”
April is a major month for disc golf, both metaphorically and literally. The beginning of the month introduced the first PDGA Major event of the year, the Amateur World Doubles Championships. Less than two weeks after the last putt hit the chains at Am World Doubles, the National Collegiate Disc Golf Championships began. The NCDGC ended just a few days ago and we’re already in another city, prepping for yet another PDGA Major.
When day two of the 2013 Tim Selinske United States Masters Championships was set to begin, the clouds started to build over Cedarock Park. The Carolinas have a propensity to deliver afternoon showers in late Spring, and today would be no different. With a two hour downpour in the early afternoon, the players would not only be challenged by the courses, but the elements as well. Rain golf is different; some feel that a more conservative approach might assist in avoiding mistakes, while others play more aggressive in order to capitalize on others mild-mannered method. We saw a bit of both, and the leaderboards have been shaken.
With less than five weeks remaining until the Tim Selinske US Masters, this years event is shaping up to be a specialone. To start with, the Selinske family will be arriving from California in time for the players meeting, and staying forthe entire event. It would be nice if we could fill this event and show the Selinske family just how much Tim meant to all of us!
This weekend saw 200 players held hostage to the fortune of the Shawshank DG Course in Huntsville, Texas for the Innova sponsored Tim Selinske US Masters Championships. This annual event, now held in memory of Tim, proved to be one of the toughest tests of player’s patience and fortitude, attributes he had in abundance.

It was another hot and windy day at the Tim Selinske US Masters but competitors appeared to be enjoying the golf and the competition. In addition to another 27 holes at the ShawShank course players were also treated to a meal featuring beef stew and live music.
Barry Schultz continued his domination over the Pro Masters field shooting an amazing 13 under par and a 1073 rated round. Barry now holds an 11-throw lead over Phil Arthur and will be difficult to beat tomorrow.
