John Key crowned the 2011 USDGC Champion!

John Key of Florida shot ten throws better than his projected score to end at -16 for the tournament and claim the 2011 USDGC Crown.  John had previously led during Round 2 after he shot thirteen throws better than his projected score.  In the final round, John had four bogies, four pars, six birdies, and four eagles.   During his four rounds, John was most consistent on Hole 18 which he parred each round, and holes 2 and 16 which he birdied each round.  John's trouble hole was hole 9 where he birdied, double-bogied, took a +6, and then bogied.

Spencer Wilken of Illinois and Bill Charron of Pennsylvania finished tied for a distant Second place having both shot a -1.  Lavone Wolfe of Alabama and David Felberg of Oregon ended up tied for Fourth at even par.  Tied for Sixth at +1 were Mike Robinson of Iowa, John Ollis of Oregon, and Juho Rantalaiho of Finland.  Tied for Ninth at +2 were Clayton Nash of Mississippi, Charlie Coleman of North Carolina, Dana Vicich of Illinois, and Patrick May of Georgia.

Finals Day at the 2011 USDGC started in the wee hours of the morning as disc collectors huddled together on the back porch of The Shack in the pre-dawn chill waiting in line to snatch-up one of this year's Inncolor USDGC ROCs.  With only 100 available, some disc addicts spent the night in sleeping bags and others brought their leather easy chairs from home to make the wait more comfortable.

Despite some blustery conditions, 22 competitors shot their best during their final round on the demanding Winthrop Gold Course.  No one was happier than Mark Lyons of Connecticut.  Mark had struggled his first three rounds shooting 116, 136, and 129.  But he came into the scoring trailer beaming from ear to ear as he turned in his card showing a very nice final round of 90.  "I finally figured it out," Mark said. "I put away my drivers and pulled out my mid-ranges to stay inside the OB ropes."  Mark was especially proud that after shooting a 22 on hole 18 during his third round, he carded a par 4 in his final round.

After the final round and awards ceremony, Avery Jenkins gave a clinic and then wowed the crowd with shots from The Shack out across the lake and onto the fiarway of Hole 5.
