Maybe the best course in Northeast Ohio. Very technical with water in play. Dries out quickly.

Very fun course. Lots of trees. I had 2 holes where I hit a tree on every shot, which was comical. About 5 holes had the basket near the water, so if you over-shoot it is wet. 1 hole borders the water, which made it difficult. Course is in Portage Lake State Park, of Rt 93 (Manchester Rd), the south entrance. There are a few signs as you drive back into the park where the course begins.

Love this course. Very challenging. This is simply the best course in the area. Very beautiful. Trees come into play on every hole. Water comes into play on many holes. Can be very wet, especially in spring or after/during heavy rains, wear your boots you will be encountering a wet lie eventually. Lots of elevation changes, you will get some excercise on this one. Very well designed and located tee boxes. The amatuer boxes are often several hundred feet and a dogleg away from pro box. Pro's range from 222' to 650', total of 6800' and am's 146' to 365' total of 4253'. They have score cards, with map and distances, and pencils at hole one, usually seem to be a few. The cards show six par 4's and one par 5 from pro boxes. Very nice tee boxes, new concrete pads, benches, and a marker with hole description and bag hooks at pro boxes. The only negative is lack of trash cans. Not a single one, anywhere. In turn there is trash on the course. I for one take a kitchen sized trash bag once in a while to help out. It is in a state park, hard to imagaine they can't drop in half a dozen trash cans, I for one would help haul them out to parking lot. They also have an association you can join for $20 per calender year. This is a must play course.

This is a very well designed course that I would call a tournament level course. Cut thru the woods of Portage Lakes State Park this long and challenging course will test your shot skills. I left realizing that despite the fact that there are some pretty long holes on this course I never really got the chance to just let it rip on my drives. The designer laid out each hole to cut thru the woods forcing you to throw much more accurate drives to avoid hitting the many trees that are perpously left in your way. I was kind of amazed at how many of the holes looked open and long but the trees force you to use a wide variety of shots and agles to weave your way to the basket which was a fun challenge.
Many of the baskets were placed on elevated mounds, the side of steep hills or were placed close to the water making approach shots very challenging. On hole #17 the basket is on the side of a steep hill and I was putting for three but the disc bounced off the side of the basket to roll way back down the hill not once but three dog gone times leaving me with a frustrating 7.
Once I found my way back into the park to were the disc golf course is located I found the course fairly easy to follow, the designers put pink tape on one of the wires on the bottom of each basket to point the way to the next basket.
Overall I think this is a fun and challenging course that will test the skills of the advanced player. I for one will become a regular at Portage Lake State Park.
