NADGT Finale kicks off in Florida
(Recap via National Amateur Disc Golf Tour)
The NADGT Tour Finale kicked off Thursday in Jacksonville, Florida at the New World Sports Complex. The NADGT Tour Finale is the culmination of over 15,000 players who have competed throughout the 2023 season to qualify for an opportunity to play for big cash and a chance to play on the Disc Golf Pro Tour in 2024.
This is a change from the NADGT's previous formats where they have historically crowned their tour champions in Austin, Texas. Players qualified for the Tour Finale throughout the season at NADGT Premier A-Tier events and at the National Championships in Austin, Texas, meaning very few players earned an invite to this exclusive tournament. The winners will receive sponsorship exemptions for the 2024 Disc Golf Pro Tour provided by Zanfel along with a hefty cash payout. Podium finishers will also receive paid invites into select DGPT events in 2024.
The favorites coming into the event in the MPO division are the NADGT MA1 National Champion Corbin Milchesky (PDGA #153445) from Oklahoma, Ryan Monn (PDGA #144929) from South Carolina, Davidson McMurray (PDGA #145147) - the 2023 New World Sports Complex NADGT Premier winner - also from South Carolina, and Lucas Carmichael (PDGA #151146) from Colorado.
In the FPO division, the favorites are the 2023 NADGT FA1 National Champion Rebecca Minnick (PDGA #170182) and the PDGA Pro Worlds FPO Distance Contest Champion Eliezra Midtlyng (PDGA #153445), both from Florida. In the MP40 division, Dan Vassar (PDGA #164032) from Minnesota is the clear favorite. In the MP50 division, Washington's Rad Roberts (PDGA #200135) is coming in hot and looking to claim the title and turn pro. The NADGT FA40 National Champion Brenda Wiltgen (PDGA #128496) will also be looking to take home another trophy this weekend.
This event has over $35,000 in cash and prizes being paid out to only 60 players who were lucky enough to make it to the Tour Finale.
After the first of four rounds in MPO, Corbin Milchesky has shot -8 and is the solo leader with a two-stroke lead over both Jonathan Jurries (PDGA #129886) from Wisconsin and Cooper Johnson (PDGA #247459) from Utah. On day 1's feature card, Davidson McMurray hit an ace on hole 16 to keep his chances alive in this championship and within striking distance of the lead card going into round two.
In the FPO division, Eliezra Midtlyng is the co-leader alongside Ann Deputy (PDGA #238187) from Georgia. Dan Vassar put together a solid first round and is leading in MP40 while Rad Roberts has taken an early two stroke lead in the MP50 division.
A one hour highlight video of this event will be aired on the Disc Golf Network in the near future. Follow along on PDGA Live Scoring as there are still three rounds to go throughout the weekend in this exciting championship!
