Embarrassment of Riches

When asked if she thought double digits was possible following her 6-under opening round, Catrina Allen, the 2-time PDGA World Champion and 7-time Major winner said she didn’t know.

It turns out that, not only was it possible for her, but two other women – Ohn Scoggins and Henna Blomroos reached the mark as well during Friday’s round 2 of the 2022 Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship.

The difference maker for Allen – a near flawless day with the putter, going 100% from C1X and two of four from C2.

“I feel like I vibe with the course and the way it’s setup,” Allen told DGN’s Brian Earhart. “I think it’s the course and a week off. I made some adjustments over the week.”

Scoggins, for her part, surprised exactly no one by going 100% from C1X. The 2-time defending Masters World Champion was also deadly with the driver, hitting 91% of the fairways according to UDisc.

“I laid up a lot. Some of the holes that are about 350ft --  a lot of players can birdie,” Scoggins reflected. “But I know my strength – I’ll lay up the upshot and just take par. But the holes I want to birdie – I make sure I get it. Tried to play smart today, and it went very well.”

Henna Blomroos got off to the hottest start of the trio, going 11-down through 15 holes. But a double bogey on 17 set her back before finishing with a birdie on 18 to get back to double digits.

“My game was on and I really enjoyed every minute on the course,” she said. “I think I’m playing pretty safe – I just know my shots and I’m trying to focus on them.”

Sarah Hokom will round out the lead card for round 3 after fighting back from a slow start in which she went two-over through six holes, only to turn it around to finish 5-under on the round.

Defending champion Missy Gannon, who started the day with a 1-shot lead, struggled to keep up the pace despite some great putts like a 60-footer to save bogey on hole 3. She finished with an up and down round of 6 birdies and 4 bogeys to finish 2-under and drop 4 spots to 5th place.

Live coverage of round 3 will kick off at 9:30 a.m. Eastern only on the Disc Golf Network.
