2023 DGPT - Portland Open Round 2 Recap
Kristin Tattar grew her lead and Corey Ellis emerged at the top on Friday at the 2023 DGPT – Portland Open presented by Latitude 64, the first Elite+ event of the season.
Other than Tattar at the top of FPO — now with a six-stroke lead — things are moving in Oregon, including Calvin Heimburg surging to the lead card on Saturday, when action shifts to the East course at Glendoveer Golf Club.
Tattar dropped a bogey-free 9-under round, unofficially rated 1018, to move to 14-under at the midway point. Through two rounds, Tattar is 100% from C1X, which gives her a 7.76 mark in strokes gained putting, according to UDisc.
Juliana Korver, less than a week from claiming her 10th PDGA Major title at the PDGA Tim Selinske U.S. Masters Championships, followed with a 6-under round, the second-hottest round in the entire field by two strokes. Korver jumped five spots into solo third.
Sai Ananda had a clean 4-under round to maintain her second-place spot.
Rounding out the lead card is Ella Hansen at 5-under. Hansen jumped four spots into a tie for fourth with Paige Pierce.
Ellis overcame a round-opening double bogey and played clean the rest of the way for a 7-under round and a one-stroke lead at 15-under. Ellis bounced back with four-straight birdies on holes 2-5, the only player in the field to get that stretch. He connected on back-to-back C2 putts in a turkey on 10-12 and finished with a pair of birdies on 17 and 18.
A few cards back, Heimburg began his surge by going 5-under through the first four holes and 9-under through 12. Despite bogies on 13 and 17, Heimburg (-9) jumped nine spots into a tie for second with Aaron Gossage and Isaac Robinson, who both had 6-under rounds to maintain their spots for Saturday’s lead card.
Alden Harris jumped six spots to lead the chase card at 13-under, tied with 15-year-old Carter Ahrens. Drew Gibson’s 7-under sent him 10 spots up the leaderboard into a tie with James Proctor and Adam Hammes.
FPO coverage begins at 12 p.m. ET with Tournament Central. Lead card tees at 12:55 p.m. ET on the Disc Golf Network. Tournament Central begins at 5:30 p.m. ET for MPO with the lead card teeing at 6:25 p.m. ET.
