2023 PDGA EuroTour #7 — Åland Open Round 2 Recap

FPO

Moving day on Åland Islands was half way through with lead card of FPO almost holing out on 18 when a lightning delay suspended the round for 70 minutes before they could make their final putts.

This moving day only furthermore re-confirmed that this is turning into a two way battle between Heidi Laine and Silva Saarinen with the first two having 10 strokes cushion on third place. And there is certainly going to be a battle for that last podium place. Hanna Jansson is currently third with plus-7, tied with the young Ida Emilie Nesse, who brought her good form from PCS and will stay on the lead card for final round. She is showing great consistency despite being only 15 years old and is certainly one to keep your eyes on for the future of our sport.

Chase card will also want to have a say in podium as only two strokes behind lurks both Jenni Karppinen and Amanda Lennartsson with plus-9 and they both played very solid round today, so keeping that pace would easily get them in a contention for third. Nothing is over until it is over, so tune in tomorrow into Disc Golf Netwok live stream not to miss the exciting finals of the seventh Euro Tour stop on the beautiful Åland Islands.

MPO

Niklas Anttila is back! The freshly crowned European MPO Player of the Year improved his 6-under first round with whopping 14-under second round (with preliminary rating of 1075) and jumped to first position in the club house.

This leading position lasted most of the second round, until Eagle McMahon arrived on sight of the club house, birdied hole 16, then hole 17 AND 18 and took solo lead by three strokes from the Fin. Miro Ryhänen, 18-year-old Fin played an excellent 12-under on a lead card, which is not always easy to do at such young age. But Miro isn't new to being on lead cards of big events, so he handled the situation really well and put himself in between Eagle and Niklas on second place trailing by two from the lead.

Scott Stokely put together another solid round today and when going from 17, he told me that he only needs par to stay on lead card tomorrow and that, although he always wants to play for a win, might play 18 a bit conservatively to keep his position in the spotlight. Unfortunately, his calculations were wrong because first round ties are broken by PDGA number, which Scott Stokely has lower than anyone in the field, but second round and on is broken by better score in previous round and that statistic goes to Matt Bell this time, pushing Scott to chase card for Championship Sunday.
