Friday, July 19, 2024 - 06:51

Estonia's Taaniel Mehine finished second at the PDGA Junior Disc Golf World Championships a year ago.

This year — and on Thursday in particular — he's put himself in position to take the crown back home with him.

Mehine shot the hot round by two strokes in MJ12 — a 984-rated effort — to pull 13 strokes ahead in Tulsa with two days to go. Mehine had an eagle and went 6-down on the back nine. On the tournament, he's averaging 984.

Patrick Yu is in second place and Harrison Young jumped 19 spots with a blistering 13-under round, which checks in as his highest-rated round of his career at 1047.

But even more divisions have plenty to settle.

Here's a look around the action around Tulsa:

  • Ida Emilie Nesse took the outright lead by three strokes with the second-hottest round of the day in FJ18. The Norwegian leads by three strokes over Canada's Rebecca Don, who rose three spots with the second-highest round of her career. Kalya Hess and Trinity Bryant round out the lead card, just five strokes back.

  • Therese Cuevas is now the outright leader in a super competitive FJ15 division. Cuevas shot the hot round of 5-under and leads by three strokes. There's a three-way tie in second place between Shelby Cowen, Hailey Huber and Eva Ramey. Cowen had the second-hottest round of the day at 4-under.

  • MJ10 also has a new leader in Henry Tabor, who had a 960-rated, 9-under to jump three spots. Nikko Forbes and William Buker are two and three spots back, respectively.

  • Connor Leaman grew his lead to two strokes in MJ15 over Roderic Maianu. Eva Lutsenko cut Nova Belanger's lead down to two strokes in FJ12. Cody Buker's lead is now three strokes over Finley Weaver.
