The FPO field took to Fox Run Meadows for Round 2 of the 2023 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships presented by L.L.Bean on Thursday.

While the field fought through heavy rain at Brewster Ridge in the opening round, the open fairways at Fox Run provided windy conditions on day two.

“We had a lot more wind than I was expecting,” said Missy Gannon after shooting the second hottest round of the day, “That always makes Fox hard and that’s the reason why it’s such a good compliment to Brewster.”

Even with the wind and the tight OB lining the fairways at Fox Run, Kristin Tattar was able to shoot the hot round once again to expand her lead to eight strokes over the field. Tattar shot a clean seven-under in round 2 and was the only player in the field to avoid taking any bogeys or going out of bounds. With yet another clean scorecard, Tattar now has five bogey-free rounds this season, three of which came from her dominating performance at the 2023 PDGA Champions Cup.

When asked what she was most proud of in Round 2, Tattar said “Just staying in bounds, no out of bounds strokes. Even though a couple of times I tried to throw out of bounds but fortunately stayed in.”

Yesterday, Tattar set a new record for the highest-rated opening round at a Major with her 1034 rated round on day 1. In round 2, Tattar still managed to improve with a 1039-rated round that was just two shots shy of the course record.  

“If you’re having a good day, everything seems easy but if you’re having a bad day, everything seems tough. I don’t want to label anything easy or tough, it is what it is. Today I feel like I executed my shots the way I wanted to mostly and made some very good putts,” Tattar said after shooting back-to-back hot rounds.

Going into Round 3, Tattar’s closest competition is Missy Gannon, who shot four-under to find herself in solo second at seven strokes under par. Tattar’s eight-stroke lead is the second largest lead of all time after two rounds at the World Championships in the FPO field, but Gannon is still optimistic with so much golf left to play.

“This is the time where you have to put it all together. There are three more rounds left, I think at this point, it’s still go big or go home,” Gannon said after giving herself a four-stroke lead over third place.

Eveliina Salonen and Vermont's own Alex Benson will round out the lead card as action shifts back to the woods of Brewster on Friday.

For this tournament, the FPO field has been split into C and D pools to allow for a larger field size. The C pool played Brewster Ridge in Round 1 and Fox Run in Round 2 while the D pool played the two courses in the opposite order. Now with two rounds finished, the pools will be shuffled based on each player’s current standing with the C pool returning to Brewster Ridge for round 3. After two more rounds, the field will be cut so all remaining players will play on the same course for the final round.

Making the jump from D pool to C pool were Keiti Tatte (18th), Eliezra Midtlyng (23rd), Raven Klein (27th), Chantel Budinsky (34th), Collen McInnes (38th), Erika Stinchcomb (39th) and Ellen Widboom (39th).

When asked if she feels calm while leading the tournament after two rounds, defending World Champion Kristin Tattar said, “Right now, I do. I’m just happy to witness how it all unfolds, whichever way it goes.”
