How to Watch the DGPT - Portland Open

Portland has a flair for the dramatic.

From an infamous playoff for a PDGA World Championship to thrilling finishes year-in and year-out, the Pacific Northwest has a rich history of delivering high level disc golf and, as the 2022 Elite Series hits the midway point, it's all set up for another strong weekend in Portland.

Beginning Thursday, the Disc Golf Pro Tour kicks off a non-stop stretch of action at the Portland Open presented by Dynamic Discs, a four-round event that includes the return of a beloved track and a new-look course that is set to deliver yet another thrilling weekend.

For the first time since 2019, Blue Lake is in the mix on the Elite Series, a site that delivered an infamous showdown between Paul McBeth and Ricky Wysocki at the 2014 PDGA Pro World Championship, several installments of the Paige Pierce and Catrina Allen battle, and a playoff victory for Drew Gibson at the 2019 Portland Open.

After two rounds at Blue Lake, the action shifts to Glendoveer, which debuted at the 2021 DGPT - Portland Open and has gone through a redesign from Dustin Keegan for the 2022 edition. Players will be test a number of ways on both tracks with woods, elevation and distance — the courses check in at over 10,000 feet for MPO and over 9.000 feet for FPO.

In FPO, Pierce enters the tournament as the two-time defending champion (2019, 2021) and both wins came by just less than three strokes over Allen, who bested Pierce in 2014 for a PDGA World title. They pulled away from the rest of the field a year ago, beating third-place finishers Hailey King and Ella Hansen, in a breakout performance, by eight strokes.

There will be a new champion in MPO as 2021 winner Eagle McMahon continues to rehab an injury. Wysocki, also dealing with a lingering injury, dropped from the event on Wednesday, leaving the door open for McBeth, who looks to right the ship after a down stretch, Simon Lizotte, who grabbed his first Elite Series win in over two years at the OTB Open, or, as 2022 has shown, any number of players who can jump into contention.

It is Portland after all, and that means it's more than likely coming down to the wire.

Here’s everything else you need to know to catch the action this weekend:
