Duffy Becomes PDGA's Director of Competition
When Rebecca Duffy – PDGA #33115 – won the PDGA’s Bob West Memorial Sportsmanship Award in 2009, it placed her squarely on the radar of disc golf’s global governing body. Within a year, former Executive Director Brian Graham recruited Duffy as a PDGA marshal – a volunteer role, but one that would further increase Duffy’s many relationships within the rapidly broadening disc golf community.
In 2011, Duffy was elected to the PDGA Board of Directors – also a volunteer role – and in 2012 she began a term as board president that would last until 2018.
During this time, Duffy owned and operated a business consulting company. Other previous career experiences included a stint as development director for CASA, a U.S. association that supports and promotes court-appointed advocates for abused or neglected children.
The PDGA acquired Duffy’s experience and expertise as a staff member in 2021 as a part of the Event Support & Training team. She moved to the Competition team in 2022. When Doug Bjerkaas was named executive director of the PDGA in January 2024, he had briefly been overseeing both the PDGA’s Competition department and the Event Support department. Duffy was the clear choice to step into the role of director of competition, overseeing a team of operations and logistics managers – the team that handles most of the physical tasks of putting on PDGA Majors.
"Rebecca has shown an incredible commitment to the PDGA over the seventeen years she has been a member. The O&L team is in great hands with Rebecca leading the charge!" said Bjerkaas.
