A Board of Directors is a requirement for non-profit status and is mandated by the PDGA bylaws. In addition to semi-annual summit meetings, the Board and staff conduct monthly teleconference calls and ongoing communication to accomplish required business. Some of the Board’s main activities include: setting PDGA policies; hiring and supervision of an Executive Director responsible for headquarters, staff, and ongoing operations; financial management including annual budget; identification of responsible future Board members; and representing the membership’s visions for the future of the sport and the association.

On the evening of September 5th, 2017, the PDGA Board of Directors held a vote during their monthly teleconference for the officer positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. The results are listed below.

This is a historic occasion for disc golf and for the PDGA in Europe! As detailed in the PDGA Europe Transition Concept Paper section of the International Program Guide, over the past year the PDGA has begun the process of transitioning PDGA Europe from a Committee to our organization’s formalized and largely self-governing continental body for Europe.

Per the requirement of the PDGA Bylaws, the PDGA Board of Directors provides this notification that Bylaws have been updated. With this update (in bold below), section 3.3. now reads as follows:

Per the requirement of the PDGA Bylaws, the PDGA Board of Directors provides this notification that they have scheduled a discussion regarding a possible change to the current bylaws of the organization. The Board of Directors is considering an amendment during their May 9th, 2017, meeting. To avoid a conflict of interest, this potential change to the bylaws would not allow employees or paid consultants to also be a member of the Board of Directors. This concept has been reviewed by our legal counsel and the following verbiage is being considered:

Today, we have not one but two exciting announcements for the disc golf world! Not only have the latest winners of the PDGA Innovation Grant Program been selected, but we are proud to roll out a much-anticipated change in the structure of the program itself.  Starting with this latest batch of applicants and continuing indefinitely for the PDGA Innovation Grant Program, the number of grant applicants to be awarded has been doubled from five to 10 and the maximum potential grant amount has been increased from $500 to $1,000!

On the evening of October 11th, 2016, the PDGA Board of Directors held a vote during their monthly teleconference for the officer positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. The results are listed below.

During the 2015 PDGA Board of Directors Fall Summit, I made a statement that caused the room to go silent. A few of the staff looked up from their keyboards with muffled smirks on their faces. One veteran board member appeared to be aghast. A folded piece of paper was passed around the big table and when it got to me, I was thinking there might be YES, NO and MAYBE boxes next to the words “Do you want to be my boyfriend?” like the notes confiscated by middle school teachers. “My first summit and I’ve already caused a stir,” I thought to myself.

On May 20th, 2015, the PDGA Board of Directors appointed Hans Nagtegaal #44969 as a replacement for former Board member Karolyn O'Cull #16994. Hans' term will end on September 1st, the same date that Karolyn's would have. Hans will be campaigning to keep his seat during the quickly approaching PDGA Elections. Voting will take place online between July 1st and July 31st, 2015 and the new terms will begin September 1st, 2015.

Hans Nagtegaal was born in and currently lives in The Netherlands. He started playing disc golf in 2010, and has since developed an impressive resume as an advocate for the sport.

On Tuesday evening September 2nd, the PDGA Board of Directors met for the September monthly teleconference. The first order of business was the election of Board officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary. The process for the election of Board officers is available in Section 4 of the PDGA Bylaws. Rebecca Duffy, Dave West, Robert Decker and Kevin Mccoy will serve as officers and members of the executive committee until the next board officer elections in 2015.

The PDGA Board formed the Nominating Committee at the 2011 Spring Summit. The overall goal of the committee is to enhance the quality of the election pool for the Board, ultimately improving the effectiveness of the elected Board.

The principal motivation for this new effort is the realization that the responsibilities of PDGA Board members have become significantly more demanding as the organization and the sport has grown larger and more complex. Additionally, there is the concern that there are qualified candidates within our membership who might need additional motivation and information in order to consider running for a Board position.

On Tuesday evening April 10th, the PDGA Board of Directors met for the April monthly teleconference. The first order of business was to elect a new president to replace Dave Nesbitt, who recently resigned his position on the board. In an historical vote, Rebecca Duffy was unanimously elected to serve as the Board President and Commissioner of the PDGA. Rebecca is the first woman to hold the position of president.

"It is such a great honor to be elected President, but being elected the first woman President demonstrates how far our organization and sport has grown.", stated Rebecca Duffy. "I look forward to working with the Board, staff, and the membership to help take our organization to the next level."
