2015 USDGC Open Flight Qualifying Information
The 2014 United States Disc Golf Championship had it all. Will Schusterick #29064 became a 3X USDGC Champion after winning a sudden death playoff against the world’s #1 ranked player, Paul McBeth #27523. 2X Women’s World Champion, Paige Pierce #29190, became the first woman to take the gold in Performance Flight. And last but not least, an awesome distance showcase over-the-lake wrapped it all up with Jeremy Koling #33705 becoming the first to ever slam a driver into the chains.
Ready for more? It all starts with Open Flight qualifying, which kicks-off sooner than usual, Jan. 29th – Feb. 1st at the 2015 Aussie Open. The Aussie Open is the first PDGA Major of the 2015 calendar year and it’s also the first PDGA Major in the southern hemisphere.
Along with the Open Flight, the 2015 USDGC which will take place Oct. 7th-10th, will again feature the Performance Flight, where many players get their first crack at the famed Winthrop Gold course. Winthrop Gold is truly a course that can break even the most seasoned of players, and for many it’s an honor to be able to simply step foot on the grounds.
After the Aussie Open, USDGC Open Flight qualifying continues and includes all the PDGA National Tour events, the remaining PDGA Majors, plus four other marquee events throughout the year. By the time October comes around, the best of the best will once again have their coveted USDGC invitations.
This year’s Performance Flight spots will be awarded in a very similar manner to last year. PDGA State, Province, and Country Coordinators are asked to select an event within their region that provides the greatest opportunity for local residents to qualify. Applying Performance Scoring to the event is encouraged, but not required. Coordinators may also select a deserving individual. Contact your coordinator for more info.
Though it’s still winter, the 2015 United States Disc Golf Championship looms large on the horizon, especially after last year’s finish. It’s a safe bet that the 2015 USDGC will be another one for the books.
Official USDGC Qualifying documentation can be found on the USDGC’s official website.
