Round 3 of the 2023 European Open saw very little change to the top of the leaderboard on moving day, with the same four players remaining on top.

Kristin Tattar shot her worst round of the tournament at even par, but still tied for the hot round with Heidi Laine and Ella Hansen. While Tattar was disappointed with her performance, she still managed to extend her lead to 14 strokes over second place. Never content to rest on her laurels, Tattar seems motivated to finish out the tournament with a score that meets her standards.

“I will just try to take it as a clean sheet, not think about what I did today and focus on what happened two days prior,” Tattar said of her mindset going into the final round, “Build up some more confidence and make sure I follow through with those putts.”

Tattar could be content to coast through the final round but it doesn’t seem that she would be satisfied to do so. Throughout her career, we’ve seen Tattar’s fiercely competitive spirit and her drive to meet her own high expectations has consistently kept her at the top of the field. Even with her lead, we can expect Tattar to give it her all in the final round.

As it seems very unlikely for Tattar to give up the lead after shooting the hot round three days in a row, the rest of the lead card will be battling for 2nd place in the final round. After another one-over rollercoaster round, Henna Blomroos finds herself in solo 2nd just one stroke ahead of Catrina Allen and Missy Gannon.

In contrast to her slow start and strong finish in Round 2, Blomroos started strong but slowed down towards the end of Round 3. Similar to her previous two rounds, Blomroos performed well off the tee and got the second highest birdie percentage on the day but gave some of those strokes back after making only 38% of her circle 1 putts, according to UDisc. Over the course of three rounds, Blomroos has gotten birdie or better on 13 of the 18 holes at the Beast, so there’s plenty of potential for her to put together a phenomenal round on Championship Sunday.

Blomroos has been in this position recently, finishing in 2nd place behind Tattar at the 2022 Disc Golf World Championships. Her highest finish so far this season is 4th place at the 2023 Las Vegas Challenge, so one more solid round and Blomroos could take her first podium finish in 2023.

Tied for third with Catrina Allen, Missy Gannon is looking to make a push in the final round. Gannon has played a consistent game throughout the tournament and was on track to match the hot round until taking her first double bogey of the weekend on Hole 18 in Round 3. While some par 4’s like Holes 12 and 16 averaged almost a full stroke over par, Gannon was always willing to go for it and ended up taking the only birdie in the field on Hole 13 in Round 3.

“I still just try to attack it for birdie,” Gannon said of her approach to the difficult par 4’s, “I think there’s no way around it and if you start getting tense or if you start thinking about ‘Wow this is a really hard par 4,’ you’re setting yourself up for potential failure. So, I think you still have to play it as if you think you can get the birdie.”

While Tattar seems uncatchable, the rest of the lead card will have a tense battle for 2nd place in the final round of the 2023 European Open.
